Our History
Foundation and Early Years:
The club was established in 1860, and its ground, located off Station Road next to the railway station, was established around the same time. The first recorded match at the ground was in 1864, when Whalley played an All-England Eleven.
The First Roses Match:
Whalley CC's ground hosted the only first-class match ever played there: the inaugural Roses match on June 27, 1867, between Lancashire and Yorkshire. Yorkshire won the fixture by an innings and 56 runs.
League Success:
In 1971, Whalley CC achieved a unique triumph in its then 80-year history by winning both the Ribblesdale Cricket League Championship Trophy and the Ramsbottom Cup in the same season.
Individual Achievements:
Jim, a player in 1969, became the first and only player in the club's history to take all 10 wickets in a single innings during a match against Baxenden.
Modern Day:
The club continues to operate today, with senior, women's, girls', and junior teams, including All Stars and various age groups. It has achieved the ECB Clubmark status, a prestigious award for excellence.
For more information, visit the official Whalley CC website or the Whalley Range CC website, as search results indicate both clubs exist. The club's archives are also summarised at The National Archives.
