Secretary's Report for 1995

The 1995 Season will be remembered as one in which the "Goods" were provided in several respects.

First and foremost, our umpires received the courtesy and respect that they deserve from Clubs and Players.

As we are all associated with the game we love and participate in for pleasure, it is gratifying to report that we were all able to enjoy the Season without unnecessary distractions.

This was especially so when one remembers that we had one of the best summers since records began.

In terms of performances on the field of play, the Clubs and Players delivered unprecedented success, which in turn reflected well on our Sponsors.

Our League Clubs won all the major cricket competitions we entered:

Pride of place must go to Chorley C C in winning the Abbot Ale National Cricket Association Competition for the second successive Season.
In the Final at Lords they beat Clifton Flax Bourton in a close match by 12 runs, a very fine achievment, for which the Club is congratulated.

Kendal C C won the Skipton Building Society Lancashire Cricket Association Knockout Cup by beating Walkden C C in the Final at Old Trafford.
Congratulations to Kendal in winning this Cup, the nineteenth time that this has been achieved by Northen League Clubs.

In the Cumberland Cricket Association Cup Netherfield C C beat Vickers C C in the final to win this Trophy for the fourth year in succession and are to be congratulated.

At the Inter-League level, the Northern League Representative Team beat the Bolton League in the Final at Kearsley C C to win this Cup for the third year in succession, afeat that has been achieved once before.

Congratulations to Team Manager Tony Hesketh and all the playing squad for a job well done.

On the domestic front, Morecambe C C were League Champions, having won an amazing fifteen out of twenty played, a great record.
Well done Morecambe.

Chorley C C were Runners-up in the League and Vaux Bitter Winners, whilst Blackpool C C won the Vaux Samson Cup Final.

In the Second Division, Blackpool C C were League Champions, and Fleetwood C C Runners-up.
Blackpool completed a unique treble by also winning the Blackledge Cup and the Latus Trophy.(Which was graciously presented to the Blackpool Captain by Mrs Latus at the Latus Trophy Final.)

Third Division League Champions were Lancaster C C, and Chorley were Runners-up.
The Norman Poole Cup Winners were Fleetwood C C, with Blackpool C C being the Finalists.

The Third Division continues to develop, and we would ask all Clubs to re-consider about entering a Team in the Division, as this would make the Administration and travelling arrangements much simpler.

The League is very sorry to lose the efforts of our Treasurer, Mr Frank Hardman after several years of good work.
Frank, who has recently retired from work, is a man who always has an opinion which he is keen to express in the strongest terms, he will be missed and our best wishes and grateful thanks are offered here.

Mr Ken Tattersall is our new Treasurer and after many years as a League Player is welcomed to the League Executive.

We are also sorry to lose the services of one of our most respected Umpires, Mr George Thompson, who is retiring.
George has given many years of service as umpire and Administrator and we all wish and thank him sincerely.

As we enter the third and final year of our Sponsorship deals with Vaux Breweries and The National Westminster Bank we take this opportunity of thanking both our Senior and Junior Cricket Sponsors for their very valued support.

Futhermore, we look forward to the possibility of negotiations to renew these much appreciated joint arrangements.

May I thank all Club Officials, Players and Spectators for their valued co-operation and support which has contributed in no small way to an outstandingly successful and enjoyable cricket year.

Finally, may I thank the League Executive for continued and much appreciated assistance and encouragement wihout which this job would be immeasuably more difficult.

Let us all go ahead resolved to make 1996 as successful as 1995

David Smalley
Honary League Secretary
