Although cricket has been played in the town since about 1834, the present club was formed in 1865. In 1907 the club moved to its current ground at Tynefield Park. Penrith joined the North Lancashire League in 1959, and were outright Champions in 1988 and 1997, Joint Champions in 1968 and 1969, First Division champions in 2005 and 2007, and Sowerby Cup winners in 2005 and 2007.
In recent years the pavilion has been extensively modernised and refurbished and with four senior teams, six junior teams, two girls teams and a women's team, cricket is progressing very nicely in the town.
As such the decision was made to apply to the Northern Premier Cricket League and the club enjoyed their inaugural season in 2014. A very warm welcome awaits players, officials and supporters from all Clubs in the Northern Premier Cricket League
