Northern League Preview for 11th July

The Northern Cricket League enters into Round 16 of the Competition and as the weeks go by the race for the Northern Cricket League Division One title intensifies

DIVISION ONE:

This weekend sees further key games in the quest for title glory, as well as a battle for The Lancashire Cup places.

Darwen the new leaders of Northern Cricket League Division One face a potentially difficult encounter with Barrow at Birch Hall.

Jordan Clarke's chargers have managed to reach the summit of the Division on the back of some good results and despite the defeat at Netherfield are in a rich vein of form.

Barrow on the other hand have the ability, however an indifferent spell sees them down the lower end of the division.

Key players such as the Cordingleys, Barrow Professional Tharanga Paranavitana and Sam Dutton will be on show at Birch Hall this weekend.

Another interesting game sees second placed Fleetwood entertain Ben Simm's Lancaster. Fleetwood have been involved in a lot of high scoring clashes in recent weeks, and it was the result over Kendal last week that put Mat Clark's Team in the mix for the title.

Australian Professional David King has been in relentless form with the bat, whilst Ian Holland has been taking wickets at a regular rate.

Lancaster had last Saturday off, and saw their TWP Wealth Twenty/20 final with Netherfield washed out on Sunday (Further details on this in another preview). However the Team from Lune Road travel to Fleetwood on the back of victory over Kendal.

In the other games, Leyland host Kendal, both sides have had a major transformation in playing personnel with both playing a very young team. This season for both sides is all about progression and stability as they look to rebuild for the future.

Leyland have lost key players such as David Makinson, however they do have a good batting line up with overseas amateur Richardt Frenz in good form.

Kendal have a very good bowling attack in fact arguably one of the best in the Division. Saeed Bariwala, Stu Parkin, Eldred Hawkens and Chris Miller in the attack, however it is their batting frailties that continue to cause problems.

Woodhill Lane sees Morecambe entertain Penrith, with Morecambe looking to climb back to the top of the division after their losing draw last weekend. Penrith are inconsistent but have the ability to perform.

St Annes host Blackpool, with the hosts looking to find form as they remain near the bottom end of the Division. Blackpool host St Annes and after last Saturdays game at Penrith rained off as the League Champions will be looking for a win which will put them in the mix.

The visitors will be looking to find form as they remain near the bottom end of the Division

The final game sees Preston entertain Chorley. Chorley continue to play well in what as been a good season for Andrew Holdsworth's team.

Preston will be looking build on last weekend's result as they remain rooted at the bottom of the League.

DIVISION TWO:

St Annes, Blackpool and Leyland will be looking to capitalize on Netherfield's free date.

Leaders St Annes are facing a tough game at home against third placed Blackpool, so is crucial for both sides in their race for the championship

Leyland just behind the yop three with a game in hand will be looking to get back to winning ways against Kendal at Shap Road

In the other games Lancaster host Fleetwood,. Penrith host Morecambe, Chorley entertain Preston whilst Barrow play host to Darwen.
