Preview for weekend 12th July

DIVISION ONE:

The battle for The Northern Cricket League title heats up as the main contenders for the crown are all in action. Last weekend saw Blackpool overhaul Leyland into top spot after beating David Makinson's side at Fox Lane.

Blackpool this weekend face a Chorley team at Stanley Park who have been through a struggling period in their season. After initially making a bright start, they now find themselves at the lower reaches of the division. Despite Blackpool being in red hot form, they themselves will be keen to recover from the setback of losing in the TWP Wealth Twenty/20 finals last weekend.

Richard Gleeson and Christi Viljeon between them continue to be the leading wicket takers in the division and will be looking for more of the same on Saturday.

2nd placed Leyland will be looking to get back on the winning trail when they make the trip up to play Penrith. Leyland despite last weeks set back will be a massive challenge for Kris Mclean's Penrith. Luis Reece, Alex Ross, Henry Thompson, Tayyab Afsar just some of the names that will be on show for the visitors this weekend.

Penrith on the other hand have found their first season in the Northern League a tough challenge. The win over the Lancashire Colts last weekend will give them some form of momentum for Saturdays game. Greg Hall has been in good form with the bat getting high scores over the past few weeks, whilst Ryan Carruthers has also had a good season. In the bowling stakes their Professional Paul Hindmarch and Jack White will pose the big threat for the reigning champions.

At Birch Hall, Darwen will be keen to keep in touch with the top two when they host Morecambe. Jordan Clarke's team had a mixed weekend were winning at St Annes last Saturday was slightly disrupted by defeat to Blackpool in the TWP Wealth Twenty/20 finals. The defeat made difficult to take by the closeness of the game and by the fact that Darwen were the hosts.

Morecambe travel to Birch Hall on the back of a win over Penrith at Woodhill Lane. Very much a morale boosting win after what has been a difficult season to-date.

Its the battle of two former Northern League title holders at Broadwater on Saturday as Fleetwood entertain St Annes. Both sides tasted defeat last weekend, whilst St Annes find themselves going through a difficult spell of late. A key contest with both looking to get back on the winning trail.

At Ernest Pass Barrow host struggling Preston, Barrow having an inconsistent season with a few winning draws sandwiched inbetween their results. Sam Dutton in great form after a century over Leyland a few weeks ago. Preston keen to get some kind of form going after a dissapointing season

The final game of the preview sees Netherfield fresh from their TWP Wealth Twenty/20 success last weekend travel to play Lancaster at Lune Road.

This will be the 4th time both sides have played each other, in league and cup this season. The last two encounters in the cups have been relatively close. Netherfield on a winning run which sees them up in sixth place whilst Lancaster have shown massive improvements over the past few weeks.

Kendal have the weekend off.

DIVISION TWO:

The title picture in Division Two has changed dramatically over the past few weeks, Both Leyland and St Annes now occupy the top two positions whilst early pace setters Netherfield fall to third after a slump in form which has seen them lose 3 straight matches.

This weekend sees Leyland hosting Penrith, St Annes hosting Fleetwood, and Netherfield hosting Lancaster at the top. For the rest, Morecambe entertain Darwen, Barrow travel to Preston, with Blackpool travelling to Chorley.
