Alex Ross signs for Leyland
Alex Ross |
We are delighted that Alex Ross will be joining us for the 2014 season as our overseas player. Alex is a right handed middle order batsman who plays for South Australia. He has played 12 List A One Day matches for the Redbacks.
Alex plays his club cricket for the Kensington Browns in Adelaide and has also represented the Eastern Edge in the newly formed SACA Premier League this season. He has regularly appeared for South Australia U23's in the Futures League.
Alex has previously been to England in 2012 when he was selected to be part of the MCC Young Cricketers Squad via the reciprocal arrangement that the MCC has with the Darren Lehmann Cricket Academy. He scored 559 runs for the MCC including an unbeaten knock of 137 against Middlesex in the Second XI Championship.
First team captain David Makinson said, "As soon as I knew that our original overseas player Alex Keath was unavailable, I contacted Alex Ross and I was pleased that he agreed to play for us. All of the arrangements are now complete and he will be here for the start of the season.
Alex's coach at South Australia was keen for him to play in the Northern League. I also spoke with Mark Alleyne, who is the head coach of the MCC, and he had no hesitation in recommending Alex as a very good cricketer and also as someone who will fit into the club well.
He has been in great form in various competitions in Australia this season; hopefully he can continue in the same vein for Leyland. Alex is really excited about coming over, he is even hoping to join us on the mid-season tour to Malta, so I'm sure he will be a popular addition to our squad."
