MY BIKE RIDE BY TONY AND DAN GEORGE FOR CANCER RESEARCH UK
Father and son pair Tony and Dan George embarked on a 2-day charity bike-ride recently and were proposing to visit all 13 Northern Premier League cricket grounds. The nominated charity is Cancer Research UK.
Le Grand Depart was at 7.30 am from Penrith CC with Barrow CC the next stop, this entailed a mountainous journey through the Lake District and the ascent of Kirkstone Pass (approx 1500ft).
The duo arrived at Barrow CC about 11am and after a short break set off on the circular route around Morecambe Bay.After departing the Morecambe and Lancaster clubs the roads to Fleetwood were of a welcoming flat nature. Fleetwood, Blackpool and St Annes clubs were visited in quick succession with arrival at the latter shortly after 7pm. The first day done with 140 miles under their sore saddles.
Following an overnight stay in St Annes departure for Preston took place around 8.45 and all was well until Tony encountered a tricky junction in Preston and landed heavily on the tarmac after a bit of a wobble. This entailed an ambulance ride to Preston A&E where broken ribs were diagnosed and the bike ride was over. With Tony's pride hurting more than his ribs (and they were extremely sore) he has vowed to complete the journey in the near future.
His mates at Kendal have suggested he practice on grass and a new design of bike has been called for.
