The Palace Shield v The Lancashire League
On a gorgeous hot sunny morning the Lancashire League players and the Palace Shield batsmen took took to the field for the first match in the 2014 Lookers Inter-League Twenty/20 competion
The Palace Shield lost their captain Michael Walling for 7. Mark Smith 25 and Danny Wilkinson took the score to 55 when Smith was bowled by Harvey Aspin
Mohammed Nadeem joined Wilkinson and after scoring 11 was stumped by Liam Bedford off Taqir Hussain with the score on 79.
There followed a mini collapse to 88-6 then Josh Holden and Marcus Molinga gave the Palace Shield side hope with a stand of 44. They were both out Holden for 22 and Molinga 23 as they ended their innings on 138 - 8
Taqir Hussain 3-25 off 4 and Simon Hanson 2-17 off 4 had the Lancashire's League best figures
In reply the Lancashire League progressed steadily but were losing wickets and at 50-4 Harvey Aspin was joined by Lloyd Aspin and they took the score to 102 when Lloyd was out for 24, followed shortly after by Harvey for 30
Matt Walker came to the crease and hit a brisk 23 to leave his side needing 4 to win. Neil Thompson hit a four off his first ball to win the game
For the Palace Shield Ian Simpson 3-11 off 3 and Ian Walling 3-19 off 4 bowled well
The Ribblesdale League v The Northern Premier League
The Ribblesdale League batted first on a hot and sunny afternoon and lost both openers for 43.
Aneeq Hussan and Preston White set about the Northern League bowling and put on 55 before Aneeq was out for 37, Preston soon followed for 30
Captain Kyle O'Connor 24 with Callum Clarke 27 and Joe Marshall 13no took the Ribblesdale League to 177-7 at the close of their innings
The Northern League were penalized 6 runs for their slow over rate and so the new target was 183 to win
Lukman Vahaluwala had the best figures for the Northern League with 3-17 off 4
Ammer Mirza and Ben Phillis opened for the Northern League and set about the Palace Shield bowling with an opening stand of 79 when Ben Phillips was brilliantly caught by Charlie Frenando for 36
Christi Viljoen joined Ammer and they took control of the match and reached their target of 183 in 18.1 overs
Ammer batted brilliantly and was 85 not out with 12 fours and 1 six in 39 balls. Christi was 46 with 4 fours and 2 sixes
The Final
Lancashire League v Northern Premier League
The Lancashire League batted first and went along steadily but losing wickets and were 76-5 with Simon Hanso 24 and captain Ockert Erasmus 24 their main contributors
Lloyd Aspin was joined by Matt Walker and they had a match winning unbroken partnership of 108, Lloyd was 57no with 9 fours and 1 six, Matt was 38no with 3 fours and 3 sixes.
The Lancashire League's innings closed on 184 - 5
In reply the Northern League struggled from the start and were 70-8 and only late runs from Will Moulton17 and Kamran Anwar 15no saw them pass 100
All the Lancashire bowlers bowled well with Lloyd Aspin 3-31 and Simon Hanson 2-8
The Lancashire League were the Looker 2014 Inter-League Champions
