Barrow Cricket Club Season Preview

Kaustubh Pawar

Barrow Cricket Club will be looking to make a charge for The Northern League title in 2014 after narrowly missing out last season.

The team from Ernest Pass have fallen just short of winning the league for the past two seasons and will be keen to go one step further this campaign in a season which promises to be one of the closest for a long time.

Barrow have acquired the services of Young Indian Professional Kaustubh Pawar, who replaces Jonathan Wells, they have also resigned Graham Dawson.

I caught up with Barrow skipper Daryl Wearing who gave his thoughts on the season ahead for the club:

"We are all really looking forward to the 2014 season. Missing out on the title, due to the weather last season was a massive disappointment but we have to put that behind us and use it to spur us on to success this season. I see the league being very competitive this season and in my opinion the championship could go to one of a number of clubs.

If we play anything like we are capable of, then hopefully we can be in the mix come September. Unfortunately we have lost Jonathan Wells as professional but I am sure we have signed a more than adequate replacement in Kaustubh Pawar. He has been in excellent form for his club side in India, scoring 5 consecutive hundreds, so hopefully he will bring some of those runs with him.

Our other major signing this year is Graham Dawson, who returns to the club after spending the last few years playing in the North Lancashire League. Graham will bring plenty to the side, not only will he add plenty of pace to our bowling but he is also a very destructive middle order batsman who is more than capable of destroying any opposition with his hard hitting.

Other than that it is as last year and I am sure that all the guys will rise to the challenge as they did in the 2013 season."
