Review of Readers Cup 2nd Round

Defending Cup Holders Blackpool were knocked out of the Readers Cup after they lost to Kendal, Netherfield,St Annes and the Lancashire Colts make it through to the semi finals.

DIVISION ONE:

BLACKPOOL v KENDAL

Kendal knocked out cup holders Blackpool following a stunning 2 wicket win at Stanley Park. Blackpool looking to defend their trophy had to make do without Richard Gleeson and Stephen Twist.

Blackpool put themselves in and Kendal had the upper hand as they restricted the hosts to 138-6. Darren Nightingale impressing with figures of 3-25. Nightingale impressing for the second conescutive game, following on from his match saving performance at Morecambe the day before.

In reply Kendal struggled, as Blackpool were closing in on victory, however an unbeaten 20 from Adam Cowperthwaite left Chris Miller on strike who got the winning runs as Kendal progress in stunning fashion as they reached thier target of 140-8 in the 38th over.

Kendal now go on to host the semi final and possibly the final if they overcome the Lancashire Colts.

NETHERFIELD v LEYLAND:

Netherfield defeated Leyland chasing a revised score of 110 off 18 overs, following a heavy downpour of rain after the 21st over of the 1st innings.

Leyland put into bat raced to 83-2, before the heavens opened, with Chris Parkinson and Luis Reece laying the platform before both fell to Stuart Dixon.

Once rain came in the 21st over, their was a delay of about an hour and a half, as both sides took an early tea. Once they came out the game continued as Leyland had to bat 40 overs. Leyland knowing that every run is crucial, closed on 244-5. Nathan Mc Donnell top scoring with 65 off 58 balls and Alex Ross batted well for 57 off 37 balls.

With the clock ticking and with the game having to be completed by 8pm, Both sides had a quick turn around for the second innings as the Umpires calculated the revised score of 110 off 18 overs. Netherfield knowing that they couldn't afford to lose 5 wickets otherwise the game would be over.

Netherfield came out with intent and despite losing Saliya Saman early as he was caught by David Makinson off the bowling of Luis Reece. The hosts powered home to victory with John Huck in scintilating form as he hit an unbeaten 66 off just 39 balls sealing it with a 6 as Netherfield raced to 110 in just 13.5 overs.

BARROW v LANCASHIRE COLTS:

The Lancashire Colts upset Barrow by 31 runs at Ernest Pass. Will Hales 51 off 78 balls helped the Colts to 185-6 off 40 overs. Gary Collins returning figures of 2-44.

In reply Barrow were bowled out for 154 in 38 overs. John Dotters returning figures of 3-26. Kaustubh Pawar hitting 43 off 67 balls and Toby Mowat top scoring with 44 off 57 balls.

DARWEN v ST ANNES:

St Annes move into the semi finals where they host Netherfield following a 6 wicket win at Darwen. The hosts were bowled out for 99 in 31 overs. Mikey Harling with the best figures of 3-19.

The visitors knocked the runs off in 21.2 overs, closing on 100-4. Lukman Vahaluwala top the top scorer with 45. George Linde returning figures of 3-35.

DIVISION TWO:

CHORLEY v BARROW

Chorley defeated Barrow by 31 runs. The hosts closing on 168-8. Joseph Tiffin with 42. Robin Adams returning figures of 3-27 for the visitors.

Barrow were all out for 137 in 35.2 overs, Michael Critchley returning figures of 6-25. Guy Heffernan the top run scorer with 36 for Paul Riley's team.

PRESTON v BLACKPOOL:

Blackpool ease into the semi finals of the Readers Cup following a 10 wicket win at Preston, Preston were bowled out for 92 in 36.4 Overs. Sam Owen returning figures of 5-30.

The visitors knocking the runs off in 18.4 overs, closing on 95-0. Adrian Darlington unbeaten on 54 off 54 balls and Tom Jefferson unbeaten on 34 off 50 balls.

LEYLAND v NETHERFIELD

Leyland cruised to a 101 run victory over Netherfield. The hosts closing on 206-6. Hamza Kahn unbeaten on 60 off 117 balls, and Ross Bretherton with 55 off 61 balls.

Netherfield were 105-9 at the close. James Park Johnson with 37 off 69 balls and Matthew Goodall with 33 off 54 balls scoring for Netherfield.

Steven Pallett, Monty Cottam and Ross Bretherton with 2 wickets each. James Rounding and Ian Farrington with 1 wicket apiece taking the wickets for Leyland.
