Netherfield sign Aussie batsman
Promising Australian batsman Ben Phillips has signed as the Clubs overseas amateur for the upcoming summer.
The talented batting all-rounder, who holds a British passport, is eagerly looking forward to his season with Netherfield - a club that have hosted numerous high profile overseas players including Dirk Nannes, Charl Langeveldt, Callum Ferguson and Colin Ackermann.
Ben (19) was a schoolboy prodigy who represented New South Wales through the age-groups and gained selection for the NSW Schoolboys.
A prolific batsman and useful leg-spinner, Phillips is now starting to convert his talent into performance in the Sydney Grade Competition for Northern District.
He has worked his way through the grades, striking a century in a Poidevin-Gray Shield (103) match in 2011/12, averaging 30.40 in second-grade in 2012/13 and courtesy of 263 runs at 52.6 in the two's this summer, earned a first-grade debut alongside recent England debutant Scott Borthwick.
He struck a fine 45 against Hawkesbury in his second match, against an attack including former Dutch professional and NSW 2nd XI seamer Shane Mott and looks set for a long future at first-grade level.
