On a gorgeous sunny day the Northern Premier League Under 21s took on a MCC team at Birch Hall Darwen.
The MCC batted first and got off to a bright start with L Bedford stroking the ball around, but on 10 N Anderson was out caught and bowled by Matthew Grindley

Bedford was out for 18 with the score at 23 again to Grindley. Further wickets fell and at lunch the MCC were 77-6

After lunch the MCC can thank J Steele who took on the League bowlers and was there at the end with 75 not out as they declared on 185 - 8
Matthew Grindley was the pick of the Under 21 bowlers with 3-47, Nathan Bolus had 2-18, Reece Davies 1-21, Ben Eckton 1-59 and Bradley Earl 0-22 off 8 overs

In reply the Under 21s made a steady start and gained momentum thanks to Ben Phillips, he and Matthew Houston put on 92 before Phillips was run out for 60

The under 21s were looking to push the score on and after Matthew Houston was out for 36 Danny Lamb and captain Henry Thompson set about their task
Both were out LBW to Rex Purnell, Thompson for 45 and Lamb 16, Adam Holt scored a brisk 14 but the wickets kept falling and they required 3 runs off the last ball and fell 1 run short
