League Engagement

The new ECB Strategy for Cricket - Champion Counties 2014-17 outlines the importance of County Boards working closely with the County Club, the Cricket Foundation and all within our cricket network, including our LCB Association of Cricket Officials, Groundsman's Association and Coaches Association. Our absolute priority is to also work alongside our affiliated Leagues during the period of the new ECB Strategy.

It is for that reason that on the 27th January we staged our first League Engagement meeting. Prior to the meeting, both Paul Bryson and myself had attended a number of League meetings to explain our new way of working, staffing structures, priorities and the importance of working together.

Facilitated by the LCB, the League Engagement meeting expanded on this further, along with presentations from the County Club, our Clubs and Leagues Department, ECB, LCB Association of Cricket Officials and the LCB Groundsman's Association. Bill Robinson, LCB Director and Treasurer also gave a presentation highlighting ideas on the future LCB Committee structures.

16 Leagues attended with positive feedback being received and all of 16 agreed this engagement needs to be regular for the benefit of recreational cricket within the County. At a time when potential changes are being put in place for certain Leagues for 2015, it is vital this is managed by effective communication. This has to come from Leagues and we feel our first engagement meeting and subsequent meetings will ensure this happens.

Recreational cricket will only remain strong if the LCB and Leagues work together

Bobby Denning (Acting Director) LCB
