Barrow confirm signing of Aussie Batsman
Michael Hill |
Barrow Cricket Club have signed Australian Batsman Michael Hill as their new professional for the new season.
A left-hand batsman who captained Australia at the Under-19 World Cup in 2008, Michael Hill made his first-class debut in 2009-10. Two matches for Victoria late in the Sheffield Shield season gave him a chance to open and bat in the middle order. The retirement of Brad Hodge from the longer format should ensure further opportunities for Hill, who captained Victoria Under-19s to a national championship victory in 2007.
Michael has just returned to the Victoria side following injury and comes to Barrow, after the deal to sign Travis Head fell through.
The thoughts of Barrow captain Daryl Wearing
"Michael is someone we have had our eye on for a while now and we are very pleased he has decided to join us. He was Australia under 19 captain and has just cemented his place in the Victoria side after injury.
After loosing Travis Head we felt we needed to make sure we got the right person to take on the role and I think we have done that.
We are hoping Michael will have a big influence on what we are wanting to achieve and help the younger guys develop in to top players."
