Season Preview: Leyland Cricket Club

Leyland Cricket Club

Leyland CC aiming for glory

Captain: David Makinson, Professional: Luis Reece, Last Season Finished 3rd

Leyland go into the 2013 campaign looking to mount a challenge in all competitions, they go into the new season having lost Professional Brett Pelser who has gone to Rawtenstall, they have also lost David Fisher and Ian Dickinson to Chorley, as well as Liam Hurt who as signed for Ormskirk.

Despite losing some players Leyland have made Luis Reece their Professional, and welcome back Tayab Afsar who as returned after a year away at New Longton.

David Makinson will be skippering the team from Fox Lane for 2013, as they open with a home game against Morecambe

Captains View:

"As always we are all looking forward to the new season. We have obviously lost a few players which is shame, but it is a problem when you have a big squad who all want to play a major role in the 1st X1.

Brett will be a big miss, but realistically we were never going to keep both Brett and Luis.

The other lads who have left are all potentially good players but did not play major roles for us last season.

Hopefully we will once again be challenging for trophies. We still have a young team, but are quite experienced.

With the exception of the talented Danny Lamb, who had his first season in 1st X1 cricket in 2012, the rest of the lads have played for several years now, and are used to playing in important matches.

The availability of Luis and Adam Coates, and the fitness of Dale Jones, will have a huge say in our success, but I am sure that the other regulars like Henry Thompson and Andrew Makinson will step up to the challenge, both with bat and ball.

The likes of Karl Cross, Chris Parkinson and James Rounding have all proven themselves to be very good First team players in the past, hopefully they will have a good 2013.

It is always hard to predict who will be the top teams, who would have thought that Fleetwood would have played so well last season.

There are quite a few new pro's are in the league this year. They can obviously have a big effect, positively or negatively, on how a club performs.

I am pretty sure that Kendal will fancy their chances and if I had to pick my favourite for the title, it would be them.

However, other teams will recognise this and make it that much harder for them to win, so you never know."
