Preview of weekend 11th and 12th August

By Richard Edmondson

Lukman Vahaluwala in action as Preston travel to Barrow

DIVISON 1

Only six matches remain as both Fleetwood and Barrow continue to battle it out at the top of Division One.

Fleetwood winning the massive top two battle with Barrow has certainly given them some momentum and confidence for the remaining games.

It couldn't be any closer with only 3 points separating the top two, with both teams facing potentially difficult encounters as we enter into another important weekend of Northern League Action.

For Fleetwood, they face a home game against Darwen, a team which have had a difficult season, who on their day can cause a threat to any side in the Division.

Barrow meanwhile host a tricky game against Preston who have been having a good season

Chris D'Leny's side know the threat that they will pose, especially from Lukman Vahaluwala. Barrow need to recover from the setback against Fleetwood and know that their is not any margin for error at this stage of the season.

All the other teams in the league have got plenty to play for, one of the stand out games being at Shap Road as a resurgent Kendal host Blackpool .

Kendal have been one of the best bowling and fielding sides in the league this season, as both Jack White and Chris Miller continue to take the wickets. Blackpool have had a mixed season but boast a serious threat to Kendal, especially through the bowling of Richard Gleeson, one of the top wicket takers in the league.

At Vernon Road St Anne's will be looking to build on last weeks win over Preston, when they host an improving Lancaster side that have picked up considerably since Ben Simm became Captain

Leyland host Morecambe at Fox Lane, Leyland are currently third in the league, whilst Morecambes league form has picked up over the past few weeks as they look for a strong finish to their league campaign.

Chorley play host Carnforth at Windsor Park , whilst Netherfield host the Lancashire Colts in the Sunday game

DIVISION 2

It's a two way battle in Division 2, as both Leyland and Barrow continue to battle it out at the top.

Defending Champions Leyland currently sit top, as they travel to play Morecambe at Woodhill Lane.

Second placed Barrow travel to West Cliff to play a struggling Preston team.

Bottom side Lancaster fresh from their win over Netherfield host David Bartholomew's St Annes at Lune Road.

Blackpool host Kendal at Stanley Park , Carnforth entertain Chorley , whilst Darwen host Fleetwood.

Netherfield have the weekend off.

READERS CUP

On Sunday, it's the semi finals of The Readers Cup as Fleetwood host Darwen and Leyland entertain Kendal.

Leyland will be looking to defend the cup, however they face a Kendal team that have already beaten them this season

Blackpool 2nds host Leyland 2nds in The Readers Cup Division Two Semi Finals, where the winners will meet St Annes in the final
