Damian Gudgeon has indicated he wants to see improvement on and off the field as his Lancaster side prepare for the new season.
I asked Gudgeon what his aims are for the new season he replied:
"As a team and as a club I want to improve on things from last year and for the continued development of all the individual players within the club
When I say improve on things from last year what I mean is we have a lot of off the field issues like culture, respect and committment that we need to improve on before we can even start to consider winning cups or getting a top five league position
Last year I think we used over 30 players in the first team and Leyland used about 16 I think so that tells a story in itself."
Damian also this week announced the capture of Zimbabwean Timycen Maruma has the new professional.
When asked if he thinks Maruma will bring a lot to the club he said:
"Yes definatly we have a few young spinners who I am sure he will help develop, my main aim for him is to come to us and learn and develop his own game if he does that he will do well and improve as a cricketer and more importantly enjoy himself and hopefully go on and play further games for Zimbabwe"
Damian is preparing for his first season as Lancaster skipper.
When asked about the new role he said:
"I will be very proud as Lancaster has a great history as a cricket club and it will be a great moment for me to lead the team this year"
First game for Damian as skipper is away at Birch Hall were they face Darwen on the 14th of April.
