Weekend Preview (28th-29th April

A look ahead to another exciting weekend in The Northern Cricket League



New Barrow Pro: Vaughn Van Jaarsveld

It's a full weekend of league and cup action as the Cricket season enters into its third weekend.

On Saturday, league leaders Leyland make the trip to to play Blackpool at Stanley Park.

Leyland have a 100% record from their opening matches and face a Blackpool team who will provide a tough test for the current leaders.

Blackpool had a mixed weekend losing to Barrow on Saturday but bouncing back with a Lancashire Cup win over Baxenden on the Sunday.

Dale Deeb will be looking to carry on his century exploits from Sunday's cup game; however Leyland professional Brett Pelser is in great form after making a fantastic start since his return to the club.

At Birch Hall, Darwen finally welcome professional South African professional Shaun de Kock who will be available for the home test against defending champions St Anne's.

De Kock had been delayed as he waited for his work permit and will be looking to make a good start against defending champions St Annes.
St Annes have got off to a slow start, however they have been boosted by the arrival of Dinuk Hettiarchichi who will finally arrive in time for Saturdays match.

Barrow welcome new professional Vaughn Van Jaarsveld for the trip to Chorley , Van Jaarsveled replaces Shannon Gabriel after the club opted to scrap the deal.

Chorley will be looking to build on the winning draw with St Anne's against Chris D'Leny's team.

At Parkside Road Netherfield host undefeated Preston. Lukman Vahaluwalas team have won their opening 2 games and sit 2nd, whilst Netherfield will be looking to respond following the narrow 3 run defeat at Morecambe.

Two inform teams face off at Broadwater as Fleetwood host Kendal, with Jamie How looking for more runs following 2 centuries in the 2 league matches. The test star has so far made 288 runs from 2 games and looks a lethal prospect for the rest of the division.

Gareth Pedder makes a return to Lodge Quarry with Morecambe as they play Carnforth. Morecambe picked up a dramatic 3 run victory over Netherfield last weekend, whilst Carnforth will be keen to get into the winning habit.

In Division 2, Barrow host Chorley, Kendal host Fleetwood, Defending league holders Leyland host Blackpool . Morecambe host Carnforth, Preston play Netherfield and St Annes host Darwen.

On Sunday its Round 1 of The National Knock Outs, with 2 all Northern League ties as Blackpool host Preston and Morecambe entertain Kendal.

In the other ties Darwen entertain Fulwood and Brighton, Fleetwood host Garstang, Netherfield host Freckleton, whilst Carnforth travel to Clifton whilst Leyland travel to play Lytham.

*Lancaster have a free weekend, whilst Chorley have a bye into the next round of The Knock out competition*
