Preview of weekend 28th and 29th July

By Richard Edmondson

Barrow CC in action as they face current champions St Annes

DIVISION 1:

It's a massive weekend in the Northern League, with the top teams in action in what are must win games.

The match of the afternoon is at Parkside Road as 3rd placed Netherfield host 2nd placed Fleetwood.

For both sides this is a massive game, Netherfield have slipped up of late, losing to Preston and then coming away with a losing draw at Carnforth. A win is essential if the hosts are to remain in the hunt for the Northern League Crown. Netherfield have to face all the title challengers at Parkside Road, and it goes without saying their season will be pretty much based on the outcomes of those games.

For Fleetwood they will be hoping to reclaim the top position in the league after seeing last weekends home clash with Leyland called off.

Fleetwood have been playing well, winning the big game at Kendal a fortnight ago. They know that with Barrow currently holding the number 1 spot a victory at Parkside Road would certainly help

At Ermest Pass League Leaders Barrow host current league champions St Annes.

For the visitors its been a dissapointing campaign in their defence of the league crown, however they will want to put on a strong finish to the season and climb the league as soon as possible.

Barrow have recovered well from a few recent setbacks putitng some good results together.

They are hitting form at the right moment in the season, a game against St Annes will be an interesting test for Chris D'Leny's team, in what could potentially be one of the highlight matches of the afternoon.

For the other league teams, Leyland play host to Kendal at Fox Lane with Kendal playing the Lancashire Colts on Sunday.

Leyland have been drawing alot of games, and were left frustrated with the key game at Fleetwood being called off.

They know that at this stage of the season they need to gain some momentum and try and stay in the pack for the League title.

Kendal have lost the last two league matches, against Morecambe they fielded and bowled really well, however their batting let them down, if they can sort their batting out they will soon pick up form again, as they have been doing well up until the last fortnight.

For the other teams,Lancaster host Blackpool,Morecambe will be hoping their Woodhill Lane surface is fine as they entertain Chorley, whilst Preston host Carnforth.

DIVISION 2:

Division 2 is heating up with a number of teams challenging for the league, Barrow currently sitting top of the Second Division ladder face a difficult game against David Bartholomews St Annes.

Netherfield skippered by Matt Clinton will be keen to keep the pressure on the top 2 as they travel to play Fleetwood,

Leyland currently second in the table travel to face Kendal, for the rest of the teams Blackpool host Lancaster, Carnforth play Preston at Lodge Quarry and Chorley entertain Morecambe.
