Readers Cup Round Up for 24th June 2012

READERS CUP DIVISION 1:

Kendal v Preston:

Kendal advance to the next round of The Readers Cup following a 6 wicket home win over Preston.

Chris Millers team have been in red hot form of late and were up against a Preston team that were keen to make amends from their defeat to Chorley 24 hours earlier.

Kendal won the toss and opted put Preston in, a good decision especially after Prestons defeat to Chorley 24 hours earlier.

The hosts got into the visitors as James Seward was caught for 4 by Jamie How off the bowling of Jack White

This was the first of many wickets to fall as Preston struggled to gain any kind of momentum. Infact if not for Lukman Vahaluwalas fluent knock of 47 off 80, the visitors would have struggled to get past 100.

For Kendal the bowling performance of Stuart Nelson who returned figures of 3-25 deserves a mention as does the performance of Professional Jamie How who returned with figures of 3-37

Preston managed to make it past 100 however they were bowled out for 125 in 38 overs.

With a below par total to chase Kendal got off to the worst possible start, as Jack White went for 0 after he was caught by Charlie Williams off the bowling of Heszer Mahmood.

Graham Baker batted for a fluent 27 to keep the runs ticking over, however Kendal suffered a further set back when Jamie How went for 13 after being given what was adjudged as an LBW decision off the bowling of Ben Harrison.

Preston at this stage were in the game, however the experience of Terry Hunte saved the day for Kendal as he hit an unbeaten 44 off 52 balls.

And despite further wickets falling, Kendal managed to see the game out as they reached 126-6! In 31.1 overs

Ben Harrison was the best bowler for the visitors with figures of 3-36

Darwen v Carnforth:

Alex Davies hit a century as Darwen defeated Carnforth by 8 wickets at Birch Hall. Davies top scored with an unbeaten 105 off 93 balls as Darwen chased down The Carnforth total reaching 167-2 in 28.3 overs.

Earlier Carnforth were restricted to 161-6, as John Cordingley claimed the best figures taking 3-37.

Carnforths C Holt offered the main resistance as he top scored with 48 off 64 balls.

All the over Readers Cup ties in Division 1 were called off with new dates to be arranged in due course.

Readers Cup Division 2

Darwen's seconds defeated Carnforth's seconds by 65 runs at Lodge Quarry, Sam Munns unbeaten 61 off 48, Gary Jackson 60 and Lee Thompsons 44 off 74 as Darwen made 189-5 off 40.

In reply Carnforth were all out for 124 in 31.3 overs, Graham Ainslie with figures of 4-19. Dave Robinson the top scorer for Carnforth with 42 runs)

Fleetwood seconds won at Lancaster in the only other tie, full details to follow

The rest of the games were postponed! with new dates to be announced in due course
