THE INTERVIEW BY RICHARD EDMONDSON

Interview with Lewis Edge Morecambe's New Captain

Lewis Edge new Morecambe Captain for 2012!

Heres an Interview i conducted with new Morecambe Captain Lewis Edge, the interview includes a preview to the new season and his thoughts on the clubs new professional.

1. Why did you decide to take on the role of captain at Morecambe CC?

I got offered the captaincy just before christmas, and I didn't really hesitate as I have been at the club since I was 10 years old, I captained alot of teams as I was growing up so to be offered it was a great honour and I look forward to the season.

2. What are your aims and aspirations for the 2012 season?

Last season wasn't a bad season, getting to the finals day of the 20/20, doing well in The National Knockout, and being unlucky in the league as our last 5 games were rain affected. This season I expect us to be challenging for the league, we have signed a top class professional and obviously Gareth Pedder returning is a big signing for us.

3. You have signed a very good professional in Umar Amin what will he bring to the team?

Umar is obviously a top class cricketer, he played in the test series against England last summer, so he will bring alot to the club, he's very excited to come over and start the season, and we look forward to him coming.

4. What other new additions have you signed to the team? and what are your thoughts on Gareth Pedder returning to the club?

We have had a few new lads netting with us this winter, as nothing is set in stone just yet, we can't confirm them, but it's looking very good for the start of the season.

One person that has returned is Gaz Pedder after a couple of very succesful seasons at Carnforth. We all know Gaz's quality, not just his bowling and batting, but how good he is in the field. He's a massive signing for us, and we are all very happy he has come back.

5. You lost Chris Williams to Netherfield, do you feel you have enough in the squad to fill the void that Chris has left? and what are your thoughts on Chris leaving?

I think we are a stronger team than we were last year, obviously Chris is a top player, I was very dissapointed to hear that he had left, But I think we have signed a stronger all round cricketer in Gaz. We also have alot of lads who are now coming into there 2nd season in this league so they will come back stronger and improve from last year.

6. Your opening game of 2012 is Preston away, what type of game are you expecting?

It will be a tough game, it's always a difficult game when going there, Lukey is now pro, and he is a very dangerous player. The first game of the season is always one that could go either way, but I am confident we can go there and get a result.

7.On a personal point of view what are you looking to improve in your own game for season 2012?. And will the captaincy and an extra pressure to your game?

Unlike last season, I will be playing a full season this campaign, so i hope to score more runs than I did last year.

Obviously there will have been doubters out there when I was given the captaincy but I will not feel any extra pressure, and I will go out there and enjoy it like any other season. Hopefully we will have a good season and surprise a few!
