Preview of weekend 25th 26th and 27th August

A CRUCIAL WEEKEND OF ACTION IN THE NORTHERN LEAGUE

By Richard Edmondson

Another pivotal weekend of Northern League action

DIVISON 1

The Northern Cricket League enters into a very important Bank Holiday weekend of action, as up to four teams are still in contention for the league title.

Although both Barrow or Fleetwood look favourites for the title, Kendal and Leyland will still feel that they have a chance of claiming the prize.

A lot will be decided this weekend, especially for Kendal, who face two crucial matches, as they play host to league leaders Barrow on Saturday, before the derby game at Netherfield on Bank Holiday Monday

Kendal will be without Jamie How who has now gone back to New Zealand, meaning that Werner Coetsee will stand in as Sub Professional for the Barrow game. No news as yet as into who will sub pro for the Netherfield game on Bank Holiday Monday

Whilst Kendal can still get themselves into contention, David Makinson's Leyland will also be looking to stay in the mix

The team from Fox Lane face two important games as they welcome Chorley to Fox Lane on Saturday before a difficult away trip at Preston on Bank Holiday Monday.

The League leaders Barrow face the crucial game at Kendal on Saturday before a home test against Adam Hornby's Carnforth on Bank Holiday Monday.

Second placed Fleetwood play once over the weekend, as they face Lancaster at Lune Road. The fixture was meant to have taken place at Broadwater, but as the ground is undegoing maintenance and repair work it was agreed for the fixture to be switched to Ben Simm's Lancaster

In the other games, Netherfield Professional Cobus Pienaar will be playing his last two games for the team as Netherfield travel to Blackpool on Saturday before the Kendal test on Bank Holiday Monday.

Chorley have a hectic weekend as they face 3 games in 3 days, with Leyland away on Saturday, followed by a home game against The Lancashire Colts on Sunday.

They then close with a Bank Holiday Monday home game with Darwen

St Annes travel to Carnforth on Saturday before hosting Blackpool on Monday, and Morecambe have Saturday off, before an away game at Lancaster on Bank Holiday Monday

DIVISION 2

The battle at the top continues for both Leyland and Barrow, as Leyland are away to Chorley on Saturday before a home game with Preston Monday. Barrow meanwhile face Kendal at Ernest Pass on Saturday before Carnforth away on Bank Holiday Monday

Lancaster v Fleetwood is now on Sunday due to the Fleetwood ground being unfit and the 1st team fixture being moved to Lune Road
