Northern Premier Cricket League U21s v MCC at Carnforth CC 13th July By Mike Latham Barrow's Jonathan Miles made 55 Lodge Quarry looked immaculate as always as long as the estimable Peter Robinson is groundsman; despite a week of rain the pitch was hard and white. MCC made 160 - 9 in 52 overs before declaring with Queenslander Clint Perren, the Littleborough pro top-scoring with 47. Teenagers Patrick Allington and Danny Lamb each took three wickets for the NPCL U21s who performed excellently, captained by Toby Bulcock, the Carnforth pro. Jonathan Miles hit 55 and Jack Bentham 38 as the NPCL side won by seven wickets just before the start of the last hour at 5-30pm. With rain falling heavily in areas south of Lancaster it was a relief to get the game over under leaden skies and sure enough the rain finally reached Carnforth within a few minutes off the close. It was a really good occasion, the home club making splendid arrangements with excellent catering. The MCC players and captain were fulsome in their praise for the organisation of the game.
