Lancaster have signed their professional for 2011 with the capture of South African all rounder Dwayne Hees.
Hees is a 19-year-old right-hand bat, off-break bowler and wicketkeeper who holds a EU passport.
He has played North West Province Under-17, Rustenburg Cricket Academy, Impala and Brits. He currently plays for Brits in the North Transvaal Cricket League. This will be his first experience of English league cricket though he did travel to England in 2008 as part of the Rustenberg Cricket Academy.
Hees has recorded 16 centuries in his career including a double hundred in league cricket. Hees has built a reputation at Academy and club level as a cricketer with a fantastic attitude and desire to improve as a player. He fits in well with new teams, as he proved when joining Brits this season, and his work ethic often rubs off on those around him.
On top of his playing abilities, Hees has also worked as a coach on the Academy programme and is currently undertaking his Cricket South Africa Level 1 qualification. He was looking to visit the UK in 2011 to develop his career and Lancaster are delighted to have given him the opportunity.
Level Three coach Damian Gudgeon has taken over as Cricket Director and will oversee matters in conjunction with Tim Barry and Brendan Hetherington.
Lancaster have also retained the services of Ben Simm, who won the Castle Award with 61 wickets last season and broke the club's amateur bowling record. Simm turned down the opportunity to play as a professional in the Bolton Association to stay loyal to Lancaster. Left arm seamer Liam Moffatt also returns to the Club from Silverdale in the Westmorland Cricket League.
Captain Michael Stevens will shortly be returning to the club after spending the winter playing and coaching in Australia.
The Lancaster Club has endured a difficult winter and can now look forward with a lot more optimism.
Jamie Heywood suffered serious head and chest injuries in a works accident and has been detained in hospital. News of his recovery has been positive in the last few days. Jamie's father, David would like to pass on the thanks of the family for the hundreds of good luck messages from players, officials and supporters of fellow Northern League clubs. The family has been overwhelmed by the level of concern for Jamie's welfare and this has been a huge boost to Jamie in his recovery.
