Barrow, St Annes and Darwen aim to close gap on leaders Leyland

Readers Cup semi-finals on Sunday

Leyland captain David Makinson celebrates his side's dramatic win over Chorley last Saturday

Leyland take a 31-point lead into Round 20 of the Furness Building Society Northern Premier Cricket League (incorporating Readers Cricket Balls) when they travel to Broadwater to take on Fleetwood on Saturday.

David Makinson's side have won 14 and lost one of their 18 league games so far but will be mindful of their Readers Cup quarter-final exit at Fleetwood a few weeks ago.

St Annes' Atiq Uz-Zaman leads the run chase for the Castle Award

Atiq Uz-Zaman leads the race to defend his Castle batting award, but the St Annes batsman (701 runs) faces a double challenge from the in-form Barrow openers Jonathan Miles (654) and Greg Platten (622) with Preston's Adam Parker on 619.

St Annes pro Dinuka Hettiarachchi leads the Division One bowling with 70 wickets including 11 five-wicket hauls. Fellow Sri Lanka Pasan Wanasinghe has taken 56 for Barrow and Ross McMillan 45 for Kendal.

Leyland's Ben Simm is the top amateur wicket-taker in 2010

On Sunday Morecambe are at home to Fleetwood in the Readers Cup semi-final. The winners of that game will host the final against the winners of the Darwen-Blackpool tie.
If Blackpool win the final will be played on Sunday 22 August.
If Darwen win the final will be staged on Sunday 29 August as Darwen are playing Lancashire Colts in a league fixture on 22 August.

The winners of the Readers Cup Division Two semi-final between Barrow and Chorley will host the final on Sunday 5 September against the winners of the St Annes-Lancaster semi-final.

Cumberland earned an impressive victory over Buckinghamshire at Slough in their latest Minor Counties Championship fixture which ended on Tuesday. Netherfield's teenaged batsman Alex Atkinson hit a first-innings century and Morecambe's Ikram Ullah made 48 and 51.
