Leaders Leyland face record breakers

Leyland pro Brett Pelser batting at Fox Lane

Leyland's sensational start to the Furness Building Society Northern Premier League incorporating Readers Cricket Balls season faces a stiff test in a double Bank Holiday programme.

David Makinson's men, fresh from a five wickets win over Fleetwood face new record holders Netherfield on Saturday at Fox Lane. Netherfield pro Nick Kruger equalled the league batting record with a sensational display of hitting against Preston, hitting 208 out of his side's record 353 for 5 declared.
But with skipper David Makinson and vice captain Peter Cummings in top bowling form and professional Brett Pelser finding his feet in English conditions Leyland have plenty of match-winners in their ranks. Opener Chris Parkinson has found form with two match-winning innings in the last fortnight.

St Annes face Blackpool in an intriguing derby at Vernon Road. The reigning champions are hot on Leyland's tails with Atiq Uz-Zaman and pro Dinuka Hettiarachchi again in top form. But they face a Blackpool side fresh from a four-match winning sequence. Bowlers Richard Gleeson and Steve Mercer each took five wickets in the thrilling last over win over Kendal last Saturday while Sri Lankan pro Nimesh Perera is a consistent contributor.

Elsewhere Darwen will be looking to build on last week's run chase to beat Lancaster in which pro Mohammad Zaman Khan hit an unbeaten hundred, when they travel to face a Preston side reunited with pro Bilal Asad who missed the opening six games. But Preston's key allrounder Lukman Vahaluwala will again be missing due to a prior engagement.

Fleetwood, whose captain and pro Matt Frith has already made impressive contributions with bat and ball are at home to Morecambe. Carnforth face Barrow at Lodge Quarry with the visitors' openers Jon Miles and Greg Platten looking to build on their match-winning opening stand against Morecambe. Kendal are at home to Chorley and Lancaster face the Lancashire Colts side at Lune Road.
