FIXTURES 24th/25th April 2010

Champions St Annes face Chorley test

Leyland's Luis Reece took 7 for 10 against Carnforth

The second round fixtures in the Furness Building Society Northern Premier Cricket League (incorporating Readers Cricket Balls) are played this coming Saturday, 24 April (1pm).
Previews of all the member league clubs are on the news section of this website.
On Sunday Lancashire Colts play their first match in the league at Fleetwood.

The league programme started with some great games last Saturday with several highlights including Mark Woodhead, the Morecambe opener, scoring his first league century in his 20th season of first-team cricket in his side's win at Netherfield, while Luis Reece took 7 for 10 as Leyland demolished Carnforth for just 27 at Fox Lane. Pakistan Test star Saqlain Mushtaq took six wickets as sub-pro for St Annes in their first defence of their title at Lancaster.

This Saturday Barrow, who have high hopes for the season entertain Lancaster. Barrow's pro Pasan Wanasinghe has returned for a fourth season at Ernest Pass and the club welcome back Darren Clark and Graham Dawson as well as giving a league debut to former Cockermouth batsman Greg Platten. But Lancaster have several newcomers to their side and led by new captain Michael Stevens are sure to pose a stiff test.

Blackpool were disappointed to lose their opening game at Chorley and Paul Danson's side have a chance to make amends against Netherfield at Stanley Park. Nick Kruger, Netherfield's Queensland opening batsman looked in prime form on debut until he became one of Morecambe skipper Tommy Clough's seven victims.

Morecambe, fresh from their opening day success at Parkside Road entertain Leyland who won by 50 runs on Saturday despite being dismissed for 77. Leyland's new South African pro Brett Pelser scored 64 acting as sub-pro for Norden in the Central Lancashire League on Sunday and also took two wickets.
Luis Reece, who has begun the season so impressively has been playing for Worcestershire Second XI this week.

Carnforth call-up Second XI captain Lee Potter to bolster their batting against a Darwen side that went within one wicket of an opening day win over Kendal. Teenagers Kamran Anwar and Yakub Bhamji both performed impressively for John Cordingley's side.
Meanwhile, Ross McMillan's Kendal entertain a Preston side still smarting after a three-runs defeat at the hands of Fleetwood.

Finally in perhaps the game of the day champions St Annes entertain Chorley at Vernon Road. The visitors got their season off to a flying start with an emphatic win over Blackpool with new pro J J Smuts and ex-Horwich opener James Reynard making impressive debuts.
