Leyland take an 11-point lead into the
penultimate round of games in the Northern Premier Cricket
League (incorporating Readers Cricket Balls).
David Makinson's side have 246 points and play
at Preston on Saturday before hosting Darwen in the final
game. Barrow have 235 points and play at Chorley on Saturday
before finishing their most successful season since joining
the Northern League with a home game against Preston.

Barrow's dramatic 10 runs win over Leyland on
Bank Holiday Monday left the title race wide open. With 15
points available for a win batting first and 12 points for a
win batting second the toss and tactics will come into the
equation. Of Leyland's 18 wins five have come batting first,
while Barrow have recorded seven of their 15 wins batting
first.

St Annes (220pts) and Darwen (205pts) complete
the top five with Blackpool (183pts) fifth.
Darwen pro Mohammad Zaman Khan leads the race
for 1,000 runs. He has scored 953 at an average of 50.16. Atiq
Uz-Zaman leads the race for the Castle Batting Award in
Division One, the St Annes star having hit 927 runs at 57.94.
Barrow's Jon Miles (810) and Greg Platten (714) are next in
line, both teenagers having enjoyed exceptional seasons.
St Annes pro Dinuka Hettiarachchi is still in
with a chance of becoming only the third bowler in league
history to reach 100 league wickets, having taken 92 at an
average of 11.04.
Barrow's Pasan Wanasinghe has taken 68 wickets
and Kendal pro Ross McMillan 57. Carnforth pro Gareth Pedder
has achieved the 50-wicket mark and celebrated by extending
his contract at Lodge Quarry for a third season.
The popular Pedder put pen to paper after
Carnforth's win over Lancashire Colts on Monday.
In the race for the Castle Bowling Award
Kendal's Chris Miller has taken 58 wickets and leads
Lancaster's Ben Simm by six. Miller has just one game to play
but Simm has two. Darwen's Kamran Anwar has also achieved 50
wickets, a superb effort by the talented teenaged
all-rounder.
Reece and Blackpool's Richard Gleeson have both
taken 44 wickets
Chris D'Leny of Barrow leads the wicketkeeping
table with 33 dismissals ahead of John Huck (Netherfield) with
28 and Leyland's Matthew Watkinson (26).
Ryan Smith (Fleetwood) is a clear leader in the
fielding stakes with 19 catches, with Leyland's Luis Reece
second on 14.
In Division Two Leyland are 16 points ahead of
Blackpool with two games to go. Leyland (229pts) play Preston
(home) and Darwen (away) while Blackpool play Darwen and
Morecambe, both at Stanley Park. Chorley (202pts) and Darwen
(188pts) complete the top four.
In the race for the Scratching Shed Publishing
Division Two Awards Leyland's Daniel Hall has scored 776 runs
at 55.43 and leads Chorley's Stu Naden (715) and Kendal's
Donovan Du Plessis (568).
Du Plessis established a new Kendal D2 batting
record on Monday, beating Paul Dodds' record of 557 runs in
1993.
The top two batsmen have club records in their
sights, with John Pallett's Leyland record of 793 runs under
threat and Bob Dickinson's Chorley record of 721 within
Naden's grasp.
In the bowling stakes Ross Parker (Blackpool)
and Nick Milner (Morecambe) have both passed the half-century
mark, Parker taking 53 wickets and Milner 52. Milner has also
scored 510 runs to complete a notable double of 500 runs and
50 wickets.
Blackpool captain Kevin Reid has 44 wickets and
Steven Pallett (Leyland) 38.
Blackpool's James Smith leads the wicketkeeping
ranks with 31 dismissals, seven ahead of Leyland's Stu
Parker.
Yasin Patel (Preston) has 12 catches and
Darwen's Sam Chatburn Jones and Chorley's Ian Mawdsley ten
apiece.
On Sunday Chorley are at home to St Annes in the
final of the Readers Cup Division Two. The 40-over game
commences at 1pm.
