Leyland take an 11-point lead into the penultimate round of games in the Northern Premier Cricket League (incorporating Readers Cricket Balls).

David Makinson's side have 246 points and play at Preston on Saturday before hosting Darwen in the final game. Barrow have 235 points and play at Chorley on Saturday before finishing their most successful season since joining the Northern League with a home game against Preston.

Barrow's dramatic 10 runs win over Leyland on Bank Holiday Monday left the title race wide open. With 15 points available for a win batting first and 12 points for a win batting second the toss and tactics will come into the equation. Of Leyland's 18 wins five have come batting first, while Barrow have recorded seven of their 15 wins batting first.

St Annes (220pts) and Darwen (205pts) complete the top five with Blackpool (183pts) fifth.

Darwen pro Mohammad Zaman Khan leads the race for 1,000 runs. He has scored 953 at an average of 50.16. Atiq Uz-Zaman leads the race for the Castle Batting Award in Division One, the St Annes star having hit 927 runs at 57.94. Barrow's Jon Miles (810) and Greg Platten (714) are next in line, both teenagers having enjoyed exceptional seasons.

St Annes pro Dinuka Hettiarachchi is still in with a chance of becoming only the third bowler in league history to reach 100 league wickets, having taken 92 at an average of 11.04.

Barrow's Pasan Wanasinghe has taken 68 wickets and Kendal pro Ross McMillan 57. Carnforth pro Gareth Pedder has achieved the 50-wicket mark and celebrated by extending his contract at Lodge Quarry for a third season.

The popular Pedder put pen to paper after Carnforth's win over Lancashire Colts on Monday.

In the race for the Castle Bowling Award Kendal's Chris Miller has taken 58 wickets and leads Lancaster's Ben Simm by six. Miller has just one game to play but Simm has two. Darwen's Kamran Anwar has also achieved 50 wickets, a superb effort by the talented teenaged all-rounder.

Reece and Blackpool's Richard Gleeson have both taken 44 wickets

Chris D'Leny of Barrow leads the wicketkeeping table with 33 dismissals ahead of John Huck (Netherfield) with 28 and Leyland's Matthew Watkinson (26).

Ryan Smith (Fleetwood) is a clear leader in the fielding stakes with 19 catches, with Leyland's Luis Reece second on 14.

In Division Two Leyland are 16 points ahead of Blackpool with two games to go. Leyland (229pts) play Preston (home) and Darwen (away) while Blackpool play Darwen and Morecambe, both at Stanley Park. Chorley (202pts) and Darwen (188pts) complete the top four.

In the race for the Scratching Shed Publishing Division Two Awards Leyland's Daniel Hall has scored 776 runs at 55.43 and leads Chorley's Stu Naden (715) and Kendal's Donovan Du Plessis (568).

Du Plessis established a new Kendal D2 batting record on Monday, beating Paul Dodds' record of 557 runs in 1993.

The top two batsmen have club records in their sights, with John Pallett's Leyland record of 793 runs under threat and Bob Dickinson's Chorley record of 721 within Naden's grasp.

In the bowling stakes Ross Parker (Blackpool) and Nick Milner (Morecambe) have both passed the half-century mark, Parker taking 53 wickets and Milner 52. Milner has also scored 510 runs to complete a notable double of 500 runs and 50 wickets.

Blackpool captain Kevin Reid has 44 wickets and Steven Pallett (Leyland) 38.

Blackpool's James Smith leads the wicketkeeping ranks with 31 dismissals, seven ahead of Leyland's Stu Parker.

Yasin Patel (Preston) has 12 catches and Darwen's Sam Chatburn Jones and Chorley's Ian Mawdsley ten apiece.

On Sunday Chorley are at home to St Annes in the final of the Readers Cup Division Two. The 40-over game commences at 1pm.

Two Twenty20 Benefit games of note:

Lancaster's Roy Silva has arranged a Sri Lankan XI v Lancaster Invitational XI at Lune Road this Friday, 3 September (6pm).
