2010 Official Handbook now available

Chairman praises new-look design

The cover for the 2010 official handbook

The Furness Building Society Northern Premier Cricket League (incorporating Readers Cricket Balls) official handbook for 2010 is now available.

The handbook has been completely re-written by League Vice-Chairman Mike Latham and re-designed for the forthcoming season by Tony Hannan and contains 216 pages with a full colour cover and extensive reviews of the past season with many photographs, a comprehensive records-and-archive section and all the fixtures for the season ahead.

Award winning writer and designer Tony Hannan from Scratching Shed Publishing is the man behind the new-look handbook design.

Hannan, whose recent book On Behalf of the Committee, a history of Northern Comedy has won critical acclaim, also recently wrote a biography of Eddie Waring entitled Being Eddie Waring.

League chairman Norman Poole is delighted with the new-look handbook design and is confident that the league will go from strength to strength.

There is a great vitality and pride in the league as we approach our 60th year in 2011 and we are delighted to welcome Lancashire Colts into our competition for the 2010 season, said Mr Poole. Furness Building Society and Readers Cricket Balls have given us tremendous sponsorship support and we are also indebted to the support of Latham Baxendale Accountants, sponsors of the Twenty20 Cup, Castle Financial & Mortgage Services, sponsors of the Castle Awards for the outstanding players in division one and Scratching Shed Publishing who will sponsor the Dream Teams for 2010 as well as the outstanding players in division two.

The handbook is simply outstanding and I am sure that players, supporters and sponsors of our league will derive great pleasure from leafing through its contents in these dark and depressing winter months as they look forward to the start of the next cricket season.

All the member clubs are featured with a first-team and ground photograph and historical section, there are potted scores from all division one and two league and cup games, a record of every player to play in division one in 2009, extensive reviews of the cup competitions, an updated and extensive archive section including the record of each club since the league began in 1952, fixtures for 2010, rules and obituaries as well as other news

Copies of the handbook are available from each member club for £3 or by post at a cost of £5 (which includes postage and packing and a small donation towards Cancer Research) from
