FIXTURES 15th and 16th MAY

Leaders Leyland face Lancaster test

Kendal pro and captain Ross McMillan has been in top form

The sixth round fixtures in the Furness Building Society Northern Premier Cricket League (incorporating Readers Cricket Balls) are played this coming Saturday with leaders Leyland looking to maintain their winning start when they visit Lune Road to play Lancaster.

Leyland defeated local rivals Chorley at Fox Lane last Saturday with South African professional Brett Pelser making a crucial contribution in a match-winning partnership with Peter Cummings. But Lancaster are a vastly improved side this season and will pose a stern test.

Two of the in-form teams meet at Shap Road with Kendal, inspired by captain and professional Ross McMillan hosting the reigning champions St Annes. After two successful run chases to beat Darwen and Barrow St Annes followed up with an emphatic Lancashire Cup win at Ormskirk on Sunday, the league's leading batsman Atiq Uz-Zaman again in top form.

Barrow hope to recover from their disappointment at Vernon Road when they play Blackpool at Ernest Pass. But after a slow start to the season Paul Danson's Blackpool side have won their last two games against Carnforth and Lancashire Colts.

Morecambe look to build on their thrilling last-ball victory over Darwen when Carnforth visit Woodhill Lane with ex-Morecambe favourite Gareth Pedder now the professional at Lodge Quarry. Carnforth's top bowler Warren Quinn will also be available for the game against his old club.

Morecambe's Chris Williams catches Darwen's Kamran Anwar off the last ball last Saturday to win the game

Chorley's South African pro JJ Smuts will take on extra responsibility as his side's promising start to the season faces a challenge due to injuries and player unavailability. Chorley captain Andy Holdsworth suffered a broken hand in the defeat at Leyland and key players Billy Smith, Jack Catterall and James Reynard all missed the game. Chorley entertain a Preston side looking to recover from a poor start. Preston still await the arrival of pro Bilal Asad.

In the remaining game Fleetwood entertain, fresh from a fine performance at Netherfield last Saturday when captain and professional Matt Frith hit a fine century entertain Darwen.
Darwen pro Mohammad Zaman Khan guested for Royton in the Central Lancashire League last Sunday and hit 72 and took four for 53 in his side's seven wickets win over his old club Crompton. Netherfield have no game.

Last Sunday a Cumberland side containing four Northern League cricketers lost by 114 runs to Staffordshire at Leek in their third game in the MCCA Trophy. Barrow's Jonathan Miles and Graham Dawson; Kendal's Chris Miller and Ikram Ullah of Morecambe were all in the Cumberland side. The scorecard can be found here:

Cumberland's remaining game in the competition is on Sunday week at Netherfield (23 May) when Cheshire provide the opposition.

Last Sunday St Annes beat Ormskirk by eight wickets in the LCB Knock-Out competition, an outstanding result against a top Liverpool & District Competition side. The scorecard can be found here:

But Chorley suffered a disappointing defeat at home to Walshaw in the same competition: http://chorley.play-cricket.com/scoreboard/scorecard.asp?id=10871832

And Netherfield lost by ten wickets at Colwyn Bay in the ECB National Club Knock-Out: http://netherfield.play-cricket.com/scoreboard/scorecard.asp?id=10940668

But Leyland won at Golborne in the same competition:

This Sunday in the first round of the LCB Cup Palace Shield sides provide the opposition as Netherfield entertain Great Eccleston, Morecambe are at home to Garstang and Preston play hosts to Penwortham.

In the ECB National Club Knock-Out Lancaster visit Farnworth Social Cirle, Carnforth are at another Bolton League side in Westhoughton, Darwen entertain Neston at Birch Hall, Kendal are at home to Ormskirk and Chorley play Prestwich at Windsor Park. Blackpool are at home to Tonge while St Annes travel to Freckleton. Barrow did not enter the competition and Preston and Fleetwood have already been knocked-out but Morecambe are through to the next round after beating Clifton.

In Division Two the game between Leyland and Lancaster at Fox Lane, last season's runners-up against the champions, could be the match of the day while leaders Darwen are at home to Fleetwood.
