The executive of the Furness Building Society
Northern Premier Cricket League incorporating Readers Cricket
Balls wishes to pass on the compliments of the season to all
players, officials and friends of the League as we look
forward to the 2011 season.
All the league fixtures have been posted to the
fixtures part of the site while the draws for the Readers Cup
have also been published. Lancashire Colts enter the Readers
Cup for the first time in 2011 with an away tie at
Fleetwood.
Five of our teams qualified to play in the
prestigious LCB Lancashire Knock-Out Competition where the
final will again be staged at St Annes CC.
Champions Leyland visit Atherton, Darwen have
Colne as visitors, Barrow entertain Elton, St Annes are at
home to Uppermill, while Blackpool have a first round bye and
will will be at home to either Darcy Lever or Flowery Field in
round two. First round ties are to be completed by 15 May.

Several teams have still to announce their
professionals for 2011. These are Barrow, Blackpool, Kendal,
Lancaster, Netherfield and Preston.

Carnforth - Gareth Pedder returns for a
third season:
Chorley - Gaurav Dhar replaces JJ Smuts
at Windsor Park. South African Smuts has signed as pro at
Lancashire League club Bacup.
Darwen - Mohammad Zaman ('Zimmy') Khan
returns for a second season;
Fleetwood - Australian grade cricketer
and Derbyshire Second XI fast bowler Ryan Smith, last season's
top fielder in the Castle Awards, replaces Matt Frith at
Broadwater as he returns for a second season;
Leyland - Brett Pelser is back at Fox
Lane;
Morecambe - Anwar Ali, the Pakistan pace
bowler formerly with Colne CC is the new pro at Woodhill
Lane;
St Annes - Dinuka Hettiarachchi, last
season's leading wicket-taker returns for a third season.
Darwen's Yakub Bhamji and Alex Davies, Barrow's
Liam Livingstone and Leyland's Henry Thompson are all included
in the Lancashire Academy squad for 2011.
Several Northern League cricketers, including
Blackpool opening bowler Richard Gleeson, Netherfield batsman
Alex Atkinson and Chorley's Stu Naden are wintering in
Australia.

Barrow CC will once again host a Cumberland
three-day fixture in the Minor Counties Championship while
Neherfield CC will host a one-day game in the MCCA Trophy,
details to follow.
Long-serving Leyland CC stalwart Terry Wilson, a
former player, captain and Chairman has been appointed
President of the club. Our congratulations go out to one of
the League's great servants and supporters. David Makinson
will continue as First XI captain and Ian Farrington replaces
the retired Chris Dovey as Second XI captain.
A reminder that two books on Northern League
clubs published during 2010, John Butler's History of
Morecambe CC and the commemorative book Double Top on
Leyland's 2010 season (by Mike Latham and Ian Farrington) are
still available.

Darwen CC are celebrating their centenary in
2011 and plan a series of events throughout the year including
a special commemorative game against a team of former players
including popular pro Keith Semple. More details to follow.
The League will also mark its 60th season with a
match involving an U21s Selection against the MCC at Shap
Road, Kendal. Details to follow.
The League AGM was postponed due to bad weather
and will now take place at Blackpool CC on Monday 10 January
2011. The publication of the 2011 League Handbook will be
delayed until February as a result
