Ally to lead Second XI
Chris D'Leny is the new captain at Ernest Pass
as Barrow CC look to build upon their fine season in 2010.
Barrow achieved their highest-ever placing in
the League since joining from the North Lancashire &
Cumbria League in 2004, finishing runners-up to Leyland. They
won 16 of their 25 games and were just nine points adrift of
the champions.
The title race was in the balance until the
penultimate week of the season but Leyland's win at Preston
coupled with Barrow's failure to bowl-out Chorley at Windsor
Park handed the championship to David Makinson's side.
Five days earlier, on Bank Holiday Monday Barrow
had won a thrilling game at Fox Lane with D'Leny making a
superb 51 in his side's 94 all out. Barrow then bowled
outstandingly to dismiss Leyland for 84 with Gary Collins and
Liam Livingstone each taking four wickets.

It was always the intention of Barrow CC captain
Daryl Wearing to step down after the season due to pressing
family commitments.
Wearing will continue as a player and
his successor is a highly regarded wicketkeeper/ batsman who
has represented Cumberland CCC on several occasions.

D'Leny fought his way back to full fitness after
missing the entire 2008 season due to a knee injury and was
the Castle Award winner as the League's top 'keeper in 2010
with 35 dismissals.
With opening batsmen Jonathan Miles and Greg
Platten and opening bowler Graham Dawson also playing for
Cumberland in 2010 Barrow have a wealth of talent at their
disposal as they chase their first Northern League title next
season.
Popular pro Pasan Wanasinghe has left the club
after four successful seasons and Barrow have still to
announce his replacement in 2011.
Meanwhile long-serving club stalwart Ian
Allington, until recently a fixture in the First XI has been
appointed to succeed Phil Renney as 2nd XI captain in 2011.
Renney helped Barrow recover from finishing
bottom in 2009 to reach a respectable 7th place in 2010 with a
host of promising young players coming through the ranks
before quitting due to family commitments.
