Derby games at Blackpool and Chorley
Twenty20 Finals Day on Sunday
St Annes captain Andy Kellett and star allrounder Stephen Twist |
St Annes face a test of their title credentials on Saturday.
The Furness Building Society Northern Premier Cricket League (incorporating 3D Sports) leaders make the short journey to face local rivals Blackpool at Stanley Park in what is always a keenly fought encounter.
Andy Kellett's side boasts the league's leading run scorer in Atiq Uz-Zaman and leading wicket-taker in pro Dinuka Hettiarachchi.
Blackpool have been dealt a blow as pro Saj Weerakoon has been called up by Sri Lanka A and will miss the rest of the season. They are still to confirm their sub-pro for Saturday.
Blackpool opener John Mounsey |
Preston moved above Chorley into second place last Saturday and the two sides meet at Windsor Park. With Jack Catterall ruled with a fractured thumb Andy Holdsworth will captain Chorley for the rest of the season.
Netherfield picked up 15 points in a low-scoring match at Lancaster last Saturday and the reigning champions will hope to mount a late charge similar to last year. But they are without the unavailable Scott Clement for the game with Morecambe.
Resurgent Fleetwood with Chesney Hughes in fine all-round form play Darwen at Broadwater with the visitors without the unavailable Joe Anderson and Jordan Clarke.
Carnforth are set to confirm the re-engagement of professional Gareth Pedder for next season; they welcome back skipper Darren Moore after illness for Kendal's visit. Richard Forsyth makes his seasonal league debut after returning from America and teenaged spinner Bradley Hoyle replaces the unavailable John Denwood.
Carnforth spinner Warren Quinn |
Lancaster pro Mario Olivier is returning home to South Africa so Tim Barry's men will require a sub-pro starting with Saturday's visit to Ernest Pass. Barrow skipper Daryl Wearing makes his third appearance for Cumberland in the Minor Counties game against Northumberland starting at Jesmond on Sunday. Last week's century-maker Chris D'Leny is unavailable.
On Sunday the popular Furness Building Society Twenty20 Finals Day takes place at Netherfield.
The hosts play Morecambe in the first semi-final at 11am with Darwen playing Preston at 2pm. The final is scheduled for 5pm.
Last season's winners were Barrow CC and none of the four clubs in last season's Finals Day have qualified this year.
League President Mr Brian Standing will be on hand to present a bottle of Cockspur Rum to the man of the match in each game and also make the trophy presentation.
