Netherfield pro makes the breakthrough
Callum Ferguson hits Graham Lee for six at Morecambe in the last match of the 2008 season |
Netherfield professional Callum Ferguson has received a call-up to the Australia One Day International squad after a successful season back home with South Australia in state cricket.
Ferguson has been called up for this week's ODIs against New Zealand in Melbourne and Sydney alongside Adam Voges.
Chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch is quoted: "Both are exciting young players with the attitude and talent to succeed at this level."
Ferguson attributes his elevation partly to his successful season in league cricket in 2008 when he says he learnt how to get into the habit of making big scores, after too often failing to make the most of good starts in the past.
Ferguson did just that- he broke the Northern League batting record with six hundreds and six half-centuries on his way to 1,381 runs in Netherfield's march to the title.
