St Annes can go top on Saturday
St Annes captain Andy Kellett |
St Annes travel up the Fylde coast on Saturday to play Fleetwood at Broadwater in the knowledge that a victory will take them to the top of the Furness Building Society Northern Premier League (in association with 3D Sports) table.
Andy Kellett's side currently trail leaders Chorley by 11 points but it is Chorley's turn to take a game off so a 15-point win batting first or 12 points for a win batting second would see St Annes reach the summit.
Third-placed Preston sat out last Saturday and saw the top two sides both lose. Bilal Asad's side are at Ernest Pass to play Barrow.
Former Kendal captain Ikram Ullah makes a swift return to Shap Road with his new Morecambe team-mates while two South African pros will be in opposition at Birch Hall with David Wiese's Darwen up against Mario Olivier's Lancaster.
Netherfield will hope to repeat their hard-earned Lancashire Cup win at Stanley Park when they play Blackpool. The defending champions lost at Stanley Park in a low-scoring game last season but their new Australian pro Glen Batticciotto is in fine form at present, hitting two hundreds last weekend, one as deputy pro for Nelson in the Lancashire League.
Carnforth moved off the bottom with a fine win at leaders Chorley on Saturday and their in-form left arm spinner Warren Quinn will again be a key player when Leyland visit Lodge Quarry. But Leyland's pro Ameer Khan hit form in the victory over St Annes earning two collections for a half century and a five wicket haul.
