TEAM NEWS WEEKEND 19th & 20th JULY
Cordingley just 18 runs away from milestone
Gareth Cordingley is just 18 runs away from a major milestone
|
Another busy weekend in the 3D Sports Northern Premier Cricket League with new leaders Blackpool entertaining Preston at Stanley Park mindful of the fact that Glenn Johnstone's men have already beaten then league leaders Leyland and Kendal this season.
Leyland will be hopeful of getting back on track when they visit Broadwater to take on Fleetwood while Kendal, in the middle of a fixture jam, travel to play Lancaster. With St Annes inactive Chorley hope to add another victory to their tally when they visit Netherfield.
Gareth Cordingley needs another 18 runs to reach the magic 10,000 figure in league games for Darwen- they entertain Carnforth at Birch Hall while Morecambe visit Barrow.
On Sunday Barrow are in county cup action at Haverigg, conquerors of Carnforth. Netherfield await the winners of the Keswick-Workington quarter-final.
Kendal hope to continue their superb run in the ECB Cockspur Cup when they entertain Sandiacre Town at Shap Road on Sunday (1pm). If Kendal win they are just two games away from a Lord's final.
On Sunday a Northern League XI face a Lancashire CCC XI as part of the Mal Loye benefit season. The T20 challenge match starts at 4pm. Blackpool FC manager Simon Grayson replaces Bilal Asad in the Northern League XI and Kyle Hogg replaces Iain Sutcliffe in the Lancashire side (further details elsewhere on site).

Preston captain Johnny Winter reports: This weekend's team bears more resemblance to the side which beat Chorley in the cup quarter finals on Sunday, as opposed to the team that were all out for 32 against Barrow last Saturday. Usman Alam will be away in Pakistan for the next 2 months, so there are a few new faces added to the bowling attack. Hopefully this fixture should be a little less one sided than the game at Stanley Park earlier this year. Ralph Cairns returns as 'keeper for Mike Beevor. Preston: Johnny Winter (c), Ralph Cairns (wk), Dipesh Patel, Danny Hall, Mark Jefferies, Mohsin Patel, Zahoor Ahmed, Roger Kaye, Jamie Yates, Andrew Starkie, Amer Abbas
Blackpool spokesperson Andy Griffiths reports: Our 2nd XI travel to face a Preston side buoyed by their success over Chorley last Sunday to take them into the Cup Semi Final; having been on the end of a 7-run defeat at Barrow, and having the better of a home draw against Leyland in the league, Blackpool are strengthened by the return of veteran opener David Newton (who missed last weekend to be at the birth of his first child, Freddie) and Craig Outram. Once more, injured captain Andy Griffiths leaves himself out. 2nd XI - Saturday 19th July - Away vs Preston, Meet BCC 11:00 - Mercer (capt), Armstrong, Booth, Bracewell, Heath (w/k), Melville, Newton, Outram, Taylor (C), Taylor (M), Wall
