Heywood made 105 not out in Lancaster's 224 for 5, hitting eleven fours and one six in his 150-ball innings and sharing a century partnership with professional Taufeeq Umar.

Blackpool closed on 196 for 5 in reply.

Heywood's previous highest first team score was 91 against Blackpool at Stanley Park in May 2007.

The previous youngest century-maker for the first team was G Bates who made 118 as a 19-year-old in 1969.

"Jamie is a hugely promising young cricketer who has reaped the benefit of a few months playing cricket in Australia for Auburn District CC over last winter," said Lancaster CC spokesman Duncan Hall. "He has had a good season so far and will be looking to have a strong second half of the season.

"He is one of a number of very good young cricketers that have been given their opportunity in the first team and is learning the game at a high level of club cricket.

"Jamie has ambitions to become a professional cricketer and undoubtedly has the talent to achieve that aim. He is a talented batsman who is maturing fast and is a quick learner."

Jamie Heywood's father David is the Lancaster club captain and one of the select band of players to score 10,000 Northern League runs.

The Lancaster CC was formed in 1841 and the club has played at Lune Road since 1882.
