The Northern Cricket League Review

It is another first for the Northern Premier League, today only Division two games were played, Morecambe had a record breaking score in their win against Carnforth, Euxton beat Great Eccleston and Fulwood & Broughton defeated Barrow

Lytham and Whalley had their first Northern Premier League wins against Penwortham and Preston respectively. Fleetwood were the winners over Thornton Cleveleys.

LEAGUE MATCHES: ROUND 2

Carnforth v Morecambe

Morecambe won the toss at Lodge Quarry and chose to bat first. Lewis Smith and Andrew Creech gave them a very good start scoring at a run a ball, their partnership was broken when Andrew Creech was run out by Dylan Conroy for 30 (32 balls)(6x4), 64-1.

Luke Pearson was the Morecambe number three and gave support to Lewis Smith.They had doubled the score when James Park Johnson trapped Luke Pearson lbw for 24 (52 balls)(1x6), 138-2. Siddarth Ahhuja was next in but soon lost Lewis Smith lbw to James Parkinson for 79 (79 balls)(11x4,2x6), 154-3.

George Battersby replaced Smith and with Ahhuja doubled the score again, George Battersby completed his century and was then caught by James Parkinson off James Park Johnson for 101 (56 balls)(10x4, 8x6), 309-4.

Joseph Bradshaw was in next, Siddath Ahhuja went on the attack scoring 24 runs off one James Park Johnson over. On reaching 106 (58 balls)(8x4,9x6) he fell lbw to Alfie Hill. 356-5. Usman Haider joined Bradshaw , James Park Johnson bowled Joseph Bradshaw for 3 (7 balls), 356-6.

Stefan Dixon was the new batsman and with Usman Haider saw Morecambe close on a record breaking 382-6 in their 50 overs. Usman Haider was 16no (10 balls)(2x4) and Stefan Dixon 10no (11 balls)(1x4).

The Carnforth bowling was James Park Johnson took 3-109 from 15, Alfie Hill 1-55 off 5, James Parkinson 1-66freom 15, Freddie Whatmuff 1-74 off 6 and Dylan Conroy 0-76 from 9.

The Carnforth opening pair of Harry Wiles and Ryan Nelson gave them a good foundation to spring from for the chase, their partnership was broken by Lloyd (Adam) Smith bowling Harry Wiles for 35 (54 balls)(3x4), 97-1.

Coming in at number three was Jaco Beneke who continued the chase, Ryan Nelson was the next man out lbw to Joseph Bradshaw for 58 (83 balls)(8x4), 120-2. James Park Johnson was the new batsman and soon became Joseph Bradshaw's second victim caught by Stefan Dixon for 13 (16 balls)(1x4), 169-3.

Jack Huntington joined Jaco Beneke. Stefan Dixon struck for the visitors with two wickets in an over , Jack Huntington was bowled for 4 (4 balls), 178-4, incoming batsman Freddie Whatmuff fell two balls later caught by Michael Bland for 0 (2 balls), 178-5.

Jaco Beneke had a new partner in Dylan Conroy and they took up the challenge , they were going very well when Stefan Dixon struck again removing both batsmen in the same over, He bowled Jaco Beneke for 74 (56 balls)(7x4,4x6), 246-6, Bradley Hoyle came to the wicket and three balls later he bowled Dylan Conroy for 33 (18 balls)(3x4, 2x6), 247-7.

Sam Frith was next in but lost Bradley Hoyle caught by Lewis Smith off Michael Bland for 0 (5 balls), 252-8. The incoming batsman was Alfie Hill who became Stefan Dixon's fifth wicket caught by Joseph Bradshaw for 7 (16 balls), 268-9.

James Parkinson was in at eleven and was soon out bowled by Michael Bland for 9 (4 balls)(2x4) as Carnforth were bowled out for 277 in 45.1 overs, Sam Frith was 8no (15 balls)(1x4).

The Morecambe bowling figures were Stefan Dixon took 5-54 from 8 overs, Michael Bland 2-16 from 3.1, Joseph Bradshaw 2-60 from 7, Lloyd (Adam) Smith 1-71 off 15, Regan Jackson 0-29 from 5 and Siddarth Ahhuja 0-39 off 7.

Euxton v Great Ecclston

Great Eccleston won the toss at Balshaw Park and invited the hosts to bat first, They lost an early wicket Max Harper caught behind by Matthew Lawrenson off Phil Booth for 1 (10 balls), 19-1. Number three was James Bone and with Josh Tolley took the score to 101 when James Bone was out caught by Mohammed Fazil off Mohamed Nadeem for 49 (63 balls)(6x4,1x6).

Ben Houghton was the new batsman and carried on were James Bone had left off, Josh Tolley reached his century and the Tolly/Houghton partnership was 163 when Ben Houghton fell caught by Alexander Rhodes off Tyler McGladdery for 84 (79 balls)(3x4,5x6), 264-3. Josh Boyden came to the wicket with nine balls left and was next out stumped by Matthew Lawrenson off Alexander Rhodes for 18 (5 balls)(1x4,2x6), 290-4.

Nishan Peiris came in for the last ball and scored two runs as Euxton closed on 292-4 in their 50 overs with Josh Tolley carrying his bat unbeaten on 115 (137 balls)(6x4,4x6) and Nishan Peiris 2no (1 ball).

For Great Eccleston Phil Booth took 1-24 from 9 overs, Alexander Rhodes 1-76 off 10, Mohamed Nadeem 1-78 from 15, Tyler McGladdery 1-81 off 10 and Will Smith 0-23 from 6.

The opening partnership of Will Smith and Matthew Lawrenson was broken with Will Smith caught by Nishan Peiris off Joseph Bowden for 2 (24 balls), 14-1. The visitors number three was Tyler McGladdery and with Lawrenson took the score past 50 , Matthew Lawrenson was the next man out caught and bowled by James Bone for 28 (45 balls)(4x4,1x6), 59-2.

Alexander Rhodes was next in but disaster for the visitors with Nishan Peiris taking two wickets in an over, Alexander Rhodes was caught by Josh Boyden for 8 (8 balls),73-3. incoming batsman Mohammed Fazil fell two balls later caught by Josh Tolley for 0 (2 balls), 73-4.

Mohamed Nadeem joined McGladdery but things got worse for with only ten runs added Tyler McGladdery was caught by Nishan Peiris off James Bone for 28 (52 balls)(5x4), 83-5. Joe McMillan replaced McGladdery and he lead the way in the chase, he was the next one out caught by Josh Tolley off Ben Houghton for 29 (34 balls)(1x4,2x6), 121-6.

Harish Hamsa was the new batsman but three runs later Mohamed Nadeem was run out by Josh Tolley for 8 (36 balls), 124-8. Alex Swale came to the wicket, Ben Houghton claimed his second wicket Harish Hamsa caught by Max Harper for 19 (24 balls)(1x4,2x6), 147-8.

Will Turnbull was Alex Swale's new partner but they were soon parted as Wil Turbull was caught by Josh Boyden off Nishan Peiris for 4 (13 balls)(1x4), 156-9. Phil Booth was the Great Ecceston number eleven but was soon out caught by Ben Houghton off James Bone for 4 (3 balls)(1x4) as Great Eccleston were bowled out for 163 in 44.3 overs with Alex Swale 7no (26 balls).

The Euxton bowling was Nishan Peiris 3-35 from 13 overs, James Bone 3-47 off 8.3, Ben Houghton 2-36 from 8, Joseph Bowden 1-19 off 5, Josh Boyden 0-4 from 4 and Joseph Barker 0-11 off 6.

Fulwood & Broughton v Barrow

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Highfield ground and decided to bat first, Ewen Mansford and Matt Smith were the openers, Matt Smith was the first to go caught by Ross McMurdo off Hardus Coetzer for 12 (10 balls)(3x4), 20-1. Ben Rosbottom came in at three and with Mansford had a partnership of 115 broken by Declan Tyson having Ewen Mansford caught by Sam Dutton for 58 (93 balls)(9x4,1x6), 135-2.

Charlie Rossiter came to the wicket but quickly became wicket number two for Declan Tyson bowled for 0 (3 balls), 145-3. Clayton Stone was the new batsman but did not fare any better caught by Oliver Whalley off Hardus Coetzer for 2 (7 balls), 155-4.

James McWilliam was next in but three runs later was caught by Oliver Whalley off Hardus Coetzer for 0 (5 balls), 158-5. Jon Fenton joined Ben Rosbottom. Ben Rosbottom reached his century and with their partnership on seventy Jon Fenton was caught by Sam Henderson off Declan Tyson for 24 (41 balls)(3x4), 228-6.

Ben Parkinson was Rosbottom's new partner. Hardus Coetzer bowled the last over and took wickets with the fourth and sixth balls of the over, Ben Parkinson was bowled for 2 (3 balls), 238-7. Incoming batsman Lewis Wellings became his fifth wicket bowled off the last ball for 0 (2 balls) as Great Eccleston closed on 238-8 in their 50 overs. Ben Rosbottom was 105no (140 balls)(12x4,2x6).

The Barrow bowling figures were Hardus Coetzer took 5-104 from 14 overs, Declan Tyson 3-57 off 14, Daryl Wearing 0-17 from 12, Habibullah Stanikzai 0-25 off 4 and Sam Henderson 0-27 from 6.

The Barrow reply got off to a terrible start losing three wickets with the score on 8, Simon Chadd was first out caught by Ben Rosbottom off Jon Fenton for 5 (15 balls)(1x4), 8-1, Number three was Oliver Whalley who became Jon Fenton's second wicket lbw for 0 (6 balls), 8-2, Sam Dutton fell in the next over caught by Matt Smith off Lewis Wellings for 1 (2 balls), 8-3.

We now had two new batsmen Hardus Coetzer and Jack Singleton, they began the rebuild and were going well, disaster struck with a wicket falling in two consecutive overs, Jack Singleton was the first out caught by Ben Parkinson off Todd Winder for 12 (75 balls)(1x4), 97-4, Ross McMurdo replaced Singleton but in the next over the prize wicket of Hardus Coetzer fell caught by Lewis Wellings off Kashif Jamil for 55 (66 balls)(7x4,2x6), 99-5.

Habibullah Stanikai was next and was soon out caught by Lewis Wellings off Ewen Mansford for 1 (5 balls), 102-6. Declan Tyson was the next man in but one run later Ross McMurdo fell caught by Charlie Rossiter off Ewen Mansford for 4 (19 balls), 103-7.

Daryl Wearing was the new batsman but soon lost his partner Declan Tyson lbw to Kashif Jamil for 2 (16 balls), 107-8. The Barrow innings came to a close three runs later with Ewen Mansford taking two wickets in two balls, He bowled Sam Henderson for 1 (4 balls), 110-9 and then next ball bowled number eleven Ben Carr for 0 (1 ball) as Barrow were bowled out for 110 in 36.3 overs.Daryl Wearing was 2no (13 balls).

All the Fulwood & Broughton bowlers took a wicket. Ewen Mansford took 4-2 off 4.3 overs, Jon Fenton 2-18 off 7, Kashif Jamil 2-19 from 10, Todd Winder 1-22 off 7 and Lewis Wellings 1-42 from 8.

Lytham v Penwortham

Penwortham won the toss at Church Road and chose to bat first, They lost Robbie Sumner early stumped by Myles Child off Sabbir Patel for 0 (10 balls), 4-1. Matt Halliday was the Penwortham number three and with Jonathan Hothersall had a partnership of 102, Sahaan Sahaan made the breakthrough bowling Jonathan Hothersall for 30 (62 balls)(4x4), 106-2.

Kriston Yearwood was in next but was soon out caught by Anthony Mulligan off Henry Roberts for 10 (12 balls)(1x6), 127-3. Nathan Elliott was the new batsman but on run later became Sahaan Sahaan's second victim bowled for 1 (6 balls), 128-4.

William Taylor replaced Elliott and with Matt Halliday were making progress. Sahaan Sahaan once again broke the partnership having William Taylor caught and bowled for 12 (32 balls)(1x6), 155-5.

The visitors then lost two wickets on the same score, Matt Halliday was the first lbw to Sabbir Patel for 87 (105 balls)(8x4,1x6), 167-6, Ed Cox joined Kane Donaghy but without any addition to the score Kane Donaghy fell lbw to Sahaan Sahaan for 4 (7 balls), 167-7. Nathan Walmsley came to the wicket and six runs later became Sahaan Sahaan's fifth victim caught by Guy Roberts for 2 (12 balls), 173-8.

Matthew Finnerty became Ed Cox's new partner and was out with nine balls left stumped by Myles Child for 7 (23 balls), 196-9. Number eleven was Isaac Roberts who was out in the last over, wicket number six for Sahaan Sahaan caught by Henry Roberts for 2 (4 balls) as Penwortham were bowled out for 200 in 49.3 overs leaving Ed Cox 18no (24 balls)(1x4).

The Lytham bowling figures were Sahaan Sahaan 6-43 from 14.3 overs, Sabbir Patel 3-44 off 15, Henry Roberts 1-38 from 5, Ryan Norris 0-20 off 5, Antony Mulligan 0-24 from 6 and Archie Banks-Smith 0-26 off 4.

Edward Fiddler and Myles Child were the Lytham opening pair, Isaac Roberts bowled Edward Fiddler for 11 (15 balls)(2x4), 19-1. Alex Higham came in at three and with Child were approaching the hundred when Alex Higham was caught by Kane Donaghy off Nathan Walmsley for 47 (57 balls)(5x4,26), 97-2.

Henry Roberts was the new batsman but lost Myles Child bowled by Nathan Walmsley for 24 (76 balls), 109-3. Sahaan Sahaan replaced Child and with Roberts were two runs short of victory when Sahaan Sahaan fell caught by Ed Cox off Isaac Roberts for 51 (42 balls)(8x4), 199-4. Ryan Norris came to the wicket and saw Henry Roberts hit the winning runs and give Lytham their first Northern Premier League win closing on 203-4 in 43.1 overs with Henry Roberts 44no (70 balls)(6x4) and Ryan Norris 0no (did not face a ball).

The bowling figures were Isaac Roberts 2-35 from 9 overs, Nathan Walmsley 2-69 off 13, Matthew Finnerty 0-15 from 5, Ed Cox 0-30 off 9 and Nathan Elliot 0-41 from 7.1.

Thornton Cleveleys v Fleetwood

Fleetwood won the toss at Illawalla and chose to bat first, The Fleetwood openers were Andy Drake and Jeremey Davies, they got off to a good start Andy Drake being the first man out caught behind by Sam Curwen off Christopher Hedges for 11 (35 balls)(2x4), 33-1. Muhammed Hurraira was in at three and with Davies continued to make good progress, Anthony Ellison was brought into the attack and in his second over he had Jeremy Davies caught by Ethan Elphick for 49 (65 balls)(8x4,2x6), 84-2.

The new batsman was Harry McAleer, Jake Apperley was brought on to bowl and like Ellison in his second over took a wicket Muhammed Hurraira caught by Will Weber for 19 (25 balls)(3x4,1x6), 95-3. Tomas King was next in but soon lost Harry McAleer caught by Will Weber off Jake Apperley for 8 (22 balls)(1x4), 126-4.

Charlie Clark came to the wicket but he too did not last long caught by J Sackfield off Anthony Ellison for 2 (11 balls), 133-5. Woody Wilson joined King and they moved the score along, Joshua Sackfield broke the partnership, Tomas King caught by Joshua Rolinson for 41 (42 balls)(5x4,2x6), 173-6.

Nathan Bend was the new batsman , Woody Wilson had the same fate as Tomas King caught by Joshua Rolinson bowled Joshua Sackfield for 25 (43 balls)(4x4), 183-7. Matthew Siddall came to the wicket but was soon out bowled by Joshua Rolinson for 6 (16 balls)(1x4), 196-8.

Nathan Bend had a new partner in Sherzai Wali and they had the scoreboard ticking over until with eight balls left Nathan Bend was caught by Josh Borrell off Joshua Rokinson for 22 (22 balls)(1x4,1x6), 219-9. Luke Wilkinson was in at eleven but with only two runs added was bowled by Joshua Sackfield for 0 (2 balls) as Fleetwood were bowled out for 221 in 49.3 overs with Sherzai Wali 14no (15 balls)(1x4).

All Thornton Cleveleys bowlers took a wicket, Joshua Sackfield took 3-35 from 7.3 overs, Anthony Ellison 2-43 off 12, Jake Applerley 2-56 from 9, Joshua Rolinson 2-59 off 13 and Christopher Hedges 1-21 from 8.

The hosts had a poor start losing Joshua Rolinson caught by Woddy Wilson off Luke Wilkinson for 0 (9 balls), 7-1. Sam Curwen came in at three and with Josh Borrell kept the scoreboard ticking over. Nathan Ben was introduced into the attack and with his third ball had Josh Borrell caught by Charlie Clark for 27 (47 balls)(3x4,1x6), 57-2.

Joshua Sackfield was in next and with Curwen had doubled the score when Luke Wilkinson claimed his second wicket bowling Joshua Sackfield for 29 (53 balls)(1x4,2x6) 119-3. Will Weber was the new batsman and was going well, disaster struck for the hosts losing three wickets on the same score, Nathan Bend claimed his second victim Sam Curwen caught by Charlie Clark for 44 (110 balls)(3x4,2x6), 139-4.

Jacob Sackfield came to the wicket. In the next over Matthew Siddall took two wickets in two balls, Will Weber was the first to go caught by Sherzai Wali for 15 (15 balls)(1x4,1x6), 139-5, Christopher Hedges was next in but was bowled first ball for 0, 139-6.

Jude Elphick was the new batsman and with Jacob Sackfield continued the chase for victory, History repeated its self with Matthew Siddall taking two wickets in two balls, He bowled Jacob Sackfield for 17 (16 balls)(1x4, 1x6), 168-7, incoming batsman Ethan Elphick fell lbw first ball for 0, 168-8.

Jake Apperley joined Jude Elphick and they were keeping the score moving along until Matthew Siddall claimed his fifth wicket Jude Elphick caught by Luke Wilkinson for 20 (27 balls)(1x4,1x6),189-9. Anthony Ellison was in at eleven and with Apperley moved the score along until Matthew Siddall brought the Thornton Cleveleys innings to a close on 211 all out in their 50 overs. He bowled Jake Apperley off the last ball of the innings for 18 (13 balls)(3x4). Anthony Ellison was 11no (9 balls)(2x4).

The Fleetwood bowling figures were Matthew Siddall 6-62 from 15 overs, Luke Wilkinson2-29 0ff 9, Nathan Bend 2-45 from 15 and Jeremy Davies 0-70 off 11.

Whalley v Preston

Preston won the toss at Station Road and put the hosts into bat, Jamie Pilling and Frankie Jackson opened for the hosts. Jamie Pilling was first out caught by Faizan Patel for 7 (27 balls)(1x4), 15-1. Hamish Mullavey- Clark was the number three but was soon out caught by Sajid Patel off Arbaz Khan for 1 (10 balls), 29-2.

Levi Wolfenden came in next but lost Frankie Jackson caught behind by Rizwan Banglawala off Arbaz Khan for 22 (66 balls)(2x4), 40-3. Richard Palmer joined Wolfenden amd they were soon separated with Levi Wolfenden stumped by Rizwan Banglawala off Talha Patel for 16 (31 balls)(2x4), 61-4.

Sam Jackson was the new batsman but with only eleven runs added Richard Palmer was caught by Imran Patel off Talha Patel for 10 (42 balls)(1x4), 72-5. Daniel Ainsworth was the new partner for Sam Jackson, They began to make steady progress and their partnership was 52 when Daniel Ainsworth was caught by Aamir Patel off Arbaz Khan for 17 (27 balls)(1x4), 124-6.

Aman Singh replaced Ainsworth but two runs later lost Sam Jackson lbw to Talha Patel for 28 (54 balls)(1x4), 124-7. The next man in was Thomas Cameron. Talha Patel claimed his fourth wicket with Aman Singh stumped by Suhel Patel Jr for 2 (9 balls), 133-8.

Joshua Dentith came to the wicket but five runs later was run out by Suhel Patel Jr for 2 (2 balls), 138-9. Toby Birtwistle was the Whalley number eleven. Aamir Patel brought the innings to a close on 153 in 49.4 overs trapping Thomas Cameron lbw for 19 (23 balls), Toby Birtwistle was 2no (7 balls).

The Preston bowling was Talha Patel took 4-39 from 15 overs, Arbaz Khan 3-39 off 15, Aamir Patel 2-21 from 9.4, Navazish Ali 0-17 off 3 and Imran Patel 0-27 from 7.

The Preston reply never got off the ground losing early wickets. Sajid Patel and Imran Patel opened but Sjiad Patel was soon out bowled by Frankie Jackson for 4 (11 balls)(1x4), 11-1. Sajid Nalbandh was number three but disaster for the visitors as they lost two wickets on the same score, Sajid Nalbandh was caught by Jamie Pilling off Levi Wolfenden for 6 (10 balls)(1x4), 18-2, Suhel Patel Jr was next in but without any addition to the score Imran Patel was caught by Daniel Ainsworth off Frankie Jackson for 6 (20 balls)(1x4), 18-3.

Navazish Ali was the new batsman but he bowled by Levi Wolfenden's for 6 (19 balls)(1x4), 24-4. Basin Ali joined Suhel Patel Jr and they had added sixteen when Frankie Jackson bowled Basim Ali for 3 (13 balls), 40-5.

Rizwan Banglawala was the new batsman but with only four runs added Suhel Patel Jr fell stumped by Thomas Cameron off Joshua Dentith for 13 (35 balls)(2x4), 44-6. Faizan Patel replaced Suhel Patel Jr but saw Rizwan Banglawala fall caught by Levi Wolfenden off Frankie Jackson for 5 (9 ball)(1x4), 48-7.

Arbaz Khan came to the wicket, Frankie Jackson claimed his fifth wicket having Faizan Patel caught by Toby Birtwistle for 6 (8 balls)(1x4), 67-8. Aamir Patel joined Arbaz Khan but disaster for the visitors as Arbaz khan was run out by Joshua Dentith for 17 (14 balls)(1x4,1x6), 76-9.

Talha Patel was in at eleven but one run later Preston were bowled out for 77 in 25.2 overs with caught by Toby Birtwistle off Frankie Jackson for 4 (12 balls) leaving Talha Patel 0no (1 ball).

Whalley only used three bowlers, Frankie Jackson took 6-25 from 9.2 overs, Levi Wolfenden 2-20 off 8 and Joshua Dentith 1-32 from 8.
