The Northern Premier League 2026 season began today with the League welcoming 2 new and 2 promoted teams to the League.
Fleetwood and Fulwood & Broughton were relegated from Division 1 to Division 2. St Annes and Carlisle replaced them from Division 2.
Mawdesley and Vernon Carus were relegated to the Palace Shield Championship from Division 2 and replaced by Morecambe and Preston.
The two new teams Lytham and Whalley joined the 2nd Division.
The first two weeks of the season will be the 40 over League cup matches starting today
There were wins for Champions Kendal at newcomers Lytham, Leyland beat Blackpool, Morecambe won at Carnforth, Chorley defeated Preston, Euxton beat Penwortham, Fulwood & Broughton defeated Barrow, Longridge won against St Annes, Netherfield beat Great Eccleston, Thornton Cleveleys were winners at home to Settle and Fleetwood won at Whalley.

Blackpool v Leyland
Blackpool won the toss at Stanley Park and invited the visitors to bat first. Karl Cross and Xander Eyre opened but were soon parted with Jamie Thomson trapping Xander Eyre lbw for 0 (5 balls), 8-1.
The Leyland number three was Luke Hands but he soon lost Karl Cross bowled by Jamie Thomson for 13 (18 balls)(2x4), 20-2. The incoming batsman was Sam Oldham. the partnership was making progress until Sam Oldham was out lbw to Alex Ryder for 21 (22 balls)(2x6), 57-3.
Jacob Wright was the new batsman and with Hands were approaching the hundred when Alex Ryder struck again, bowling Luke Hands for 23 (63 balls)(1x4, 2x6), 91-4. Next in was Lloyd Tennant but was soon out bowled by Dylan Henshall for 7 (13 balls), 104-5. The new man in was Liam Hurt, two wickets fell in the same over with the score on 123, Jacob Wright was run out by Matthew Taaffe for 29 (48 balls)(3x4, 1x6), 123-6, Dylan Henshall then had Liam Hurt caught by Omar Tauqir for 16 (17 balls) (2x4), 123-7.
Taj Ballantyne and Will Smith were the two new batsmen but with only sixteen runs added Jamie Thomson claimed his third wicket Taj Ballantyne caught by Matthew Taaffe for 2 (6 balls), 139-8. Andrew Jacques joined Smith but was out in the last over caught by Omar Tauqir for 16 (16 balls)(2x4), 165-9.
Number eleven was Adam Sexton and with Smith saw Leyland close on 167-9 in their 40 overs. Will Smith was 21no (31 balls)(1x4) and Adam Sexton 2no (2 balls).
Jamie Thomson took 4-40 from 8 overs, Ale Ryder 2-22 off 8, Dylan Henshall 2-31 from 8, Khalil Patel 0-24 off 8 and Matthew Grindley 0-47 from 8.
Ben Howarth and Dylan Henshall opened but got off to a bad start losing Ben Howarth caught by Will Smith off Liam Hurt for 0 off the third ball of the innings, 0-1, In at three was Andrew Needham but he soon became wicket number two for Liam Hurt out lbw for 6 (10 balls)(1x4). 8-2.
Gareth Severin was the next man in and with Henshall were going well until Luke hands had Dylan Henshall caught by Andrew Jacques for 15 (22 balls)(2x4, 1x6), 32-3. Omar Tauqir joined Severin, Andrew Jacques was brought into the attack and with his first ball bowled Gareth Severin for 10 (11 balls)(1x6), 36-4.
Matthew Taaffe came to the wicket to start the Blackpool fight back, their partnership was 33 when Andrew Jacques struck again having Omar Tauqir caught by Xander Eyre for 21 (33 balls)(3x4), 69-5. Jake Muncaster was Taaffe's new partner but was soon out bowled by Karl Cross for 0 (2 balls), 75-6.
Matthew Grindley replaced Muncaster and with Taaffe took the score towards the hundred when two wickets fell cheaply, Matthew Grindley was stumped by Adam Sexton off Karl Cross for 9 (9 balls), 98-7. One run later incoming batsman Khalil Patel was bowled by Sam Oldham for 0 (2 balls), 99-8.
Alex Ryder was Matthew Taaffe's next partner and was scoring well until he was caught by Taj Ballantyne off Sam Oldham for 19 (18 balls)(2x6). Jamie Thomson was last man in but without further addition to the score Matthew Taffe was caught by Lloyd Tennant off Liam Hurt for 33 (60 ball)(2x4, 1x6) as Blackpool were bowled out for 123 in 28.1 overs. Carlisle v Garstang
Carlisle won the toss at Edenside and put the visitors into bat, Tom Higson and Michael Walling gave them a good start and their partnership was broken when Tom Higson was caught by Kieran Titterington off Ben Davidson for 36 (59 balls)(2x4, 1x6), 61-1.
Number three for the visitors was Nisanth Nithian but was out in Nico Watt's second over bowled for 1 (4 balls), 68-2, Joseph Pearson joined Walling and they took the score past the hundred when Nico Watt claimed his second wicket Michael Walling caught by Michael Slack for 45 (88 balls)(2x4). 112-3
Lahiru Madushanka was next in but did not face a ball as the rains came and there was no further play. Match Abandoned on 31.3 overs with Garstang 112-3. Joseph Pearson was 18no (38 balls)(1x4).

Carnforth v Morecambe
Carnforth won the toss at Lodge Quarry and invited the visitors to bat first, Morecambe got off to a terrible start losing Lewis Smith off the first ball of the match caught by Dylan Conroy off James Park Johnson for 0 (1 ball), 0-1, Andrew Creech came in at three and with Luke Pearson were scoreing freely until Dylan Conroy bowled him for 22 (19 balls)(4x4), 37-2. Joseph Bradshaw was next in but was soon out lbw to Dylan Conroy for 9 (8 balls)(2x4), 51-3.
Joe Davies replaced Bradshaw but with only four runs added lost Luke Pearson to the first ball of Freddie Whatmuff's second over caught by Jack Huntington for 14 (32 balls)(2x4), 55-4. The new batsman was Stefan Dixon but he quickly lost Joe Davies caught behind by Bradley Hoyle off Dylan Conroy for 6 (6 balls)(1x4), 59-5.
Usman Haider joined Stefan Dixon with the visitors in trouble, they took control and were going well but with their partnership on 152 disaster struck Usman Haider was run out by Jaco Beneke for 90 (74 balls)(3x4, 8x6), 211-6. Ashton Ward came to the wicket but was soon out stumped by Bradley Hoyle off Jaco Beneke for 5 (13 balls), 222-7.
Michael Bland was Dixon's new partner and they kept the scoreboard moving along until in the final over Stefan Dixon was caught behind by Bradley Hoyle off Alfie Hill for 65 (81 balls)(7x4, 1x6), 252 8. The hosts did not fare any better than their visitors losing Freddie Whatmuff in the first over caught and bowled by Lloyd (Adam) Smith for 0 (2 balls), 4-1. In at three was Jaco Beneke and with Ryan Nelson were going well scoring at nearly ten an over when Lloyd (Adam Smith) made the breakthrough having Jaco Beneke caught behind by Ashton Ward for 38 (21 balls)(4x4, 3x6), 67-2.
James Park Johnson was Nelson's new partner and they continued to score well until disaster struck in the run chase losing four wickets in eleven balls, Ryan Nelson fell caught behind by Ashton Ward off Lewis Smith for 46 (65 balls)(6x4), 144-3. Dylan Conroy replaced Nelson but in the next over Michael Bland took two wickets, James Park Johnson caught by Joe Davies for 51 (44 balls)(6x4, 3x6), 150-4, Two balls later incoming batsman Sam Frith fell lbw for 0 (2 balls), 150-5.
Bradley Hoyle replaced Frith but four runs later saw Lewis Smith claim his second wicket Dylan Conroy caught behind by Ashton Ward for 5 (5 balls) (1x4), 154-6. Jack Huntington joined Hoyle and they set about chasing down the score, they were doing well until the introduction of Stefan Dixon into the attack and broke there partnership having Bradley Hoyle stumped by Ashton Ward for 20 (23 balls)(1x4), 207-7.
Joel Frith was next in and soon lost his partner Jack Huntington caught by Lewis Smith off Regan Jackson for 29 (35 balls)(3x4), 214-8. Alfie Hill was the new batsman and quickly became Regan Jackson's second victim bowled for 2 (8 balls), 219-9. Last man in was James Parkinson but without a run being added to the score saw Joel Frith fall bowled by Stefan Dixon for 7 (9 balls)(1x4) as Carnforth were bowled out for 219 in 35.1 overs, James Parkinson was 0no (1 ball).

Chorley v Preston
Chorley won the toss at Windsor Park and asked Preston the take first knock, Ahmed Saeed Bariwala and Navazish Ali were the opening pair, they took the score to 16 when both were out, Ahmed Saeed Bariwala was the first to go caught by Keegan Petersen off Will Moulton for 1 (11 balls), 16-1, In the following over Navazish Ali fell lbw to Toby Johnston for 5 (18 balls)(1x4), 16-2.
We now had two new batsmen Suhel Patel and Suhel Patel Jr, They were moving the score along until Sam Steeple was brought into the attack and with his second ball bowled Suhel Patel for 12 (18 balls)(1x4), 35-3. Next in was Sajid Nalbandh and with Patel Jr kept the scoreboard ticking over, Sam Steeple broke the partnership bowling Suhel Patel Jr for 6 (29 balls), 57-4.
Sajid Patel replaced Patel Jr but with only seven runs added he was out caught by Ed Catt off Miller Childs for 4 (18 balls), 65-5. Rizwan Banglawala came in but six runs later became Miller Childs second victim bowled for 4 (6 balls)(1x4), 71-6.
The collapse continued with new man Arbaz Khan becoming Miller Childs next wicket bowled for 1 (8 balls), 73-7. Talha Patel was Nalbandh's next partner but soon fell bowled by Ed Catt for 2 (15 balls), 83-8. Amar Hernal was next in but three runs later lost the fighting Sajid Nalbandh caught by Sam Steeple off Ed Catt for 31 (45 balls)(1x4, 1x6), 86-9. In walked Ismail Patel who was out lbw to Luca Doyle for 4 (14 balls) as Preston were bowled out for 93 in 33.2 overs leaving Amar Hernal 3no (20 balls.)
All the Chorley bowlers took a wicket lead by Miller Childs 3-8 from 4 overs with Ed Catt 2-14 off 7, Sam Steeple 2-16 from 8. Will Moulton 1-12 off 5, Toby Johnston 1-16 from 4 and Luca Doyle 1-19 off 5.2
Miller Childs and Alfie Dobson gave the hosts a good start with an opening partnership of 41, Arbaz Khan made the breakthrough trapping Alif Dobson lbw for 28 (22 balls)(4x4,1x6.).
Keegan Petersen came in at three and with Miller Childs saw the hosts home on 94-1 in 16.3 overs, Miller Childs was 31no (50 balls)(1x4, 2x6) and Keegan Petersen 23no (27 balls)(1x4).

Euxton v Penwortham
Euxton won the toss at Balshaw Park and put the visitors into bat, Robbie Sumner and Jonathan Hothersall gave them a great start with an opening partnership of 77 broken by Lewis Sweeney having Jonathon Hothersall caught by Max Harper for 31 (56 balls)(2x4,1x6), 77-1,Matt Halliday was the Penwortham number three and had put on 50 when Josh Boyden was brought into the attack and took two wickets in two balls in his first over, Robbie Sumner was caught by James Bone for 63 (102 balls)(5x4, 1x6), 127-2. next ball new batsman Kriston Yearwood was trapped lbw for 0 (1 ball), 127-3.
The incoming batsman was Nathan Elliot but with only six runs added lost Matt Halliday caught by Josh Boyden off Joseph Barker for 19 (43 balls)(2x4). 133-4. Charlie Parker replaced Halliday and with Elliot took the score past the 150 when Joseph Barker claimed his second wicket bowling Nathan Elliot for 12 (17 balls)(1x4), 152-5. Max Harper joined Boyden and they were building a partnership with Boyden leading the way when Nathan Walmsley bowled Max Harper for 4 (12 balls), 121-4. Jack Morgan joined Boyden and they were in sight of victory when Jack Morgan was caught behind by Robbie Sumner off Isaac Roberts for 16 (24 balls), 154-5.

Barrow won the toss at the Highfield ground and asked the hosts to bat first, Openers Matt Smith and James McWilliam got off to a good start scoring at a run a ball, Hardus Coetzer broke the partnership having James McWilliam caught behind by Dew Postlethwaite for 18 (24 balls)(2x4,1x6), 37-1.
The Fulwood & Broughton number three was Ben Rosbottom, Sam Dutton was brought into the attack and in his first over had Ben Rosbottom caught behind by Drew Postlethwaite for 9 (15 balls)(2x4) 54-2. Hardus Coetzer was the next batsman, Kashif Jamil struck with two wickets in one over, Hardus Coetzer was bowled for 11 (7 balls)(2x4), 94-3. three balls later incoming batsman Oliver Whalley was out lbw for 0 (3 balls), 94-4.
Simon Chadd joined Jack Singleton and was quickly out lbw to Simon Kerrigan for 0 (3 balls) 100-5.Nishanth Arun replaced Chadd but disaster struck for the visitors losing four wickets on the same score with Todd Winder taking two in the same over, Jack Singleton was the first to go bowled by Kashif Jamil for 39 (63 balls)(7x4) 122-6. Longridge won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and invited the visitors to bat first, St Annes got off to the worst start possible losing Lukman Vahaluwala off the first ball of the match caught by Joshua Mullin off Tom Howarth for 0, 0-1.
Number three was Evan Dobson and saw Tom Howarth in his second over have Ashton Charles stumped by Louie Trayers for 0 (6 balls), 6-2. Mohammed Jamal was the new batsman and with Dobson began the fight back, they were moving the score along until Alex Mason trapped Mohammed Jamal lbw for 15 (25 balls)(1x6). 45-3. Ethan Hill came in next but in Alex Mason's next over was stumped by Louie Trayers for 0 (4 balls), 47-4.
Adam Patel was Evan Dobson's new partner and they were going well until Kieran McClintock took two wickets in an over, Adam Patel was the first man out lbw for 13 (25 balls)(1x6), 71-5, four balls later new man Alex Urquhart was bowled for 0 (4 balls), 71-6. The Longridge bowling was Tom Howarth 3-19 from 6 overs, Alex Mason 2-14 off 6, Kieran McClintock 2-23 from 7, Gabriel Dowthwaite 1-33 off 6, Joe Lyth 0-20 from 7 and Jake Durnell 0-32 off 8.
The Longridge openers started quickley with Rhys Morgan leading the way, Joshua Mullin fell on the last ball of the third over caught by Adam Patel off Rory Urquhart for 5 (9 balls), 29-1, Louie Trayers came in at three but with only five runs added lost Rhys Morgan bowled by Adam Patel for 23 (22 balls)(2x4,2x6), 34-2.
Alex Mason was next in and with Louie Trayers were going well until disaster struck Alex Mason was run out by Ashton Charles for 42 (60 balls)(5x4,1x6), 100-3. Luke Platt joined Trayers and they continued the chase. 23 runs were required for victory when Luke Platt was caught by Rory Urquhart off Mohammed Patel for 16 (24 balls)(1x4,1x6), 131-4. Rob Hollinghurst replaced Platt. Lukman Vahaluwala was brought back into the attack with only seventeen runs required, with his fifth ball he had Louie Trayers caught by Rory Urquhart for 33 (92 balls)(2x4), 141-5. Kieran McClintock came to the wicket but was out in Lukman Vahaluwala'a next over bowled for 6 (6 balls)(1x6), 147-6.
Gabriel Dowthwaite was Rob Hollinghurst's new partner but with scores level Rob Hollinghurst was out caught by Adam Patel off Rory Urquhart for 8 (17 balls)(2x4), 153-7. Tom Howarth came in and saw Gabriel Dowthwaite hit the winning run off the first ball of the final over as Longridge closed on 154-7 in 39.1 overs, Gabriel Dowthwaite was 3no (5 balls) and Tom Howarth 0no (did not face a ball).

Lytham v Kendal
In their first match in the Northern Premier Cricket League Lytham faced the Champions, Kendal won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first. The got off to a bad start losing Myles Child bowled by Louis Backhouse for 0 (9 balls), 2-1.
The Lytham number three was Stewart Davison and with Edward Fiddler got the scoreboard moving, Freddie Fallows was brought on to bowl and in his second over bowled Edward Fiddler for 19 (29 balls)t, 29-2, Sahaan Sahaan came in but in Freddie Fallows next over he trapped Stewart Davison lbw for 19 (31 balls) 35-3.
Henry Roberts was next in and they had added twenty two run when Henry Roberts was caught behind by Harry Templeton off Lewis Richardson for 14 (21 balls)(1x4), 57-4. Archie Banks-Smith replaced Roberts but with only five runs added both batsmen were out, Archie Banks-Smith was caught by Finlay Richardson off Christopher Miller for 3 (11 balls), 62-5, without any addition to the score Sahaan Sahaan was out caught by Louis Backhouse off Kuldeep Singh for 11 (36 balls), 62-6.
There were two new batsmen at the crease Guy Roberts and Ryan Norris and they dug in and tried to turn the game around, Freddie Fallows broke the partnership having Ryan Norris caught by Darren Nightingale for 11 (30 balls), 78-7. Antony Mulligan joined Roberts and continued the fight, Christopher Miller took his second wicket bowling Guy Roberts for 11 (35 balls), 96-8

John Huck was the new batsman but only three runs added Will Smith claimed his second wicket Richard Everett caught by Mohammed Fazil 20 (36 balls)(2x4), 54-3. Jafer Chohan replaced Everett and the scoreboard was ticking over until John Huck was out lbw to Mohamed Nadeem for 10 (21 balls), 72-4.
Josh Dixon joined Chohan and they had almost doubled the score when Alexander Rhodes bowled Josh Dixon for 25 (29 balls)(1x4,1x6), 141-5. Will Beeden was next in and supported his partner. Jafer Chohan fell on the fifth ball of the last over caught by Luca Swarbrick off Jim Procter for 65 (67 balls)(2x4, 4x6), 174-6.
Oli Wileman came to the wicket for one ball, he hit it for four and Netherfield closed on 178-6 in their 40 overs, Will Beeden was 16no (13 balls)(3x4)and Oli Wileman 4no (1 ball).

Mohammed Fazil was the new batsman, Jafer Chohan was brought on to bowl and with his third ball had Mohammed Fail caught by Ben Barrow for 0 (5 balls), 37-3. Matthew Lawrenson replaced Fazil but disaster struck for the visitors losing five wickets on the same score. Oli Wileman started the collapse bowling Matthew Lawrenson for 2 (22 balls), 60-4, Joe McMillan came to the wicket and in the next over Alexander Rhodes was stumped by Will Beeden off Jafer Chahan for 32 (23 balls)(4x6), 60-5.
Harish Hamsa came to the wicket and in the next over Oli Wileman took two wickets, Joe McMillan caught by Reece Irving for 0 (2 balls), 60-6, new batsman Will Turnbull was caught by Harry Lee for 0 (3 balls), 60-7. Matt Moat came out and in the next over Harish Hamsa was caught by Isaac Medhurst off Jafer Chohan for 0 (4 balls), 60-8.

In came John Davidson at number three but he soon lost Angus Ogden stumped by Sam Curwen off Anthony Ellison for 13 (48 balls)(1x4), 30-2. Sunny Singh was the new batsman and with John Davidson were keeping the scoreboard moving along, Joshua Sackfield broke the partnership having John Davidson caught by Will Weber for 27 (32 balls)(2x4,2x6), 69-3.
Benjamin Hulse was next in but quickly became Joshua Sackfield's second victim bowled for 2 (12 balls), 90-4. Joe Pickles replaced Hulse but he too went quickly bowled by Antony Ellison for 1 (5 balls), 97-5.
Sunny Singh had a new partner in Seb Woods and they began to make good progress until Seb Woods was caught by Josh Borrell off Christopher Hedges for 20 (15 balls)(3x4), 135-6. Matthew Siddall was brought on the other end and in his first over took two wickets in two balls, incoming batsman Thomas Cameron was caught by Tomas King for 0 (2 balls), 37-4, next ball new man Ethan Jackson was bowled for 0 (1 ball), 37-5.
Daniel Ainsworth replaced Jackson and began the slow rebuild with Mullavey-Clark, Matthew Siddall claimed his third wicket Daniel Ainsworth caught behind by Harry McAleer for 11 (21 balls)(1x4), 52-6. The new batsman was Aman Singh and he dug in but he was the next to go caught by Promod Maduwantha off Sherzai Wali for 4 (24 balls), 66-7.
Mullavey- Clark had a new partner in Toby Birtwistle but unfortunately he was soon out caught and bowled by Sherzai Wali for 4 (13 balls), 72-8. Ewan McDonald came to the wicket but nine runs on lost Hanish Mullavey-Clark who had fought valiantly but fell caught by Hassan Mughal off Nathen Bend for 26 (81 balls)(2x4), 81-9.
Joshua Dentith came in at eleven and two runs later he was out lbw to Nathan Bend for 1 (3 balls) as Whalley were bowled out for 83 in 36,2 overs with Ewan McDonald 4no (15 balls).
