The Northern Cricket League Review

The Northern Premier League 2025 season Round 9. We are now at the half was point of the season and the weather once again effected games at the top of both divisions. Kendal increase their lead at the top of Division 1 with a record breaking win at Chorley whilst Garstang v Netherfield was abandoned

Settle's win at Blackpool saw them move into third place. Fleetwood won their first league match of the season at Longridge and Leyland won at Fulwood & Broughton.

In Division 2 St Annes lose for the first time in the league in an exciting game to Great Eccleston by one run, as in Division 1 their closest rivals the Carlisle v Penwortham match was abandoned without a ball being bowled. Barrow defeated Euxton and move into fourth, Thornton Cleveleys won at Carnforth and Mawdesley beat Vernon Carus.

DIVISION ONE

LEAGUE MATCHES: ROUND 9

Blackpool v Settle

Settle won the toss at Stanley Park and decided to bat first, The openers William Davidson and Benjamin Hulse gave them a good start with William Davidson leading the way, Jamie Thomson made the breakthrough bowling Benjamin Hulse for 2 (37 balls), 46-1.

Zane Nirodi came in at three, Jamie Thomson struck again bowling William Davidson for 43 (44 balls)(8x4), 63-2. Gautam Waghela joined Nirodi and they had nearly doubled the score when Zane Nirodi was bowled by Matthew Grindley for 40 (52 balls)(5x4, 2x6), 125-3.

The new batsman was Amar Ullah, they took the score past the 150 when Matthew Grindley bowled Amar Ullah for 14 (22 balls)(2x4.), 155-4. John Davidson replaced Ullah and supported Gautam Waghela, with their partnership on 79 Jamie Thomson claimed his third wicket John Davidson stumped by Ben Howarth for 27 (34 balls)(3x4), 234-5.

The incoming batsman was Tom Davidson, In the final over Gautam Waghela reached his century and Tom Davidson became Jamie Thomson's fourth wicket bowled for 3 (7 balls), 246-6. next in was James Snowden who became Jamie Thomson's fifth wicket caught by Dylan Henshall for 7 (9 balls), 266-7.

Will Vause came to the wicket for the final ball and took a run as Settle closed on 267-7 in their 50 overs with Gautam Waghela 102no (94 balls)(9x4, 3x6) with Will Vause 1no (1 ball).

Jamie Thomson took 5-55 from 13 overs, Matthew Grindley 2-71 off 15, Ali Usman 0-62 from 12 and Joshua Boyne 0-70 off 10.

In reply Blackpool lost both openers early, Kasim Munir was bowled by Gautam Waghela for 3 (13 balls), 17-1, Rishit Sharma followed bowled by Tom Davidson for 16 (35 balls)(3x4), 28-2.

Andrew Needham and Joshua Boyne were the new batsmen and began to move the score along with Boyne leading the way, Eddy Read broke the partnership having Joshua Boyne caught behind by Noah Smith for 52 (56 balls)(1 x4, 2x6), 135-3.

Ali Usman joined Needham but with only ten runs added he was caught by Gautam Waghela off Eddy Read for 6 (8 balls), 145-4. Dylan Henshall replaced Usman and was making progress when he was bowled by Eddy Read for 22 (17 balls)(2x4, 1x6), 175-5.

Ben Howarth was the incoming batsman but soon lost his partner Andrew Needham caught by Will Vause off Eddy Read for 62 (116 balls)(4x4), 182-6.

Amar Ullah then took center stage with three wickets, new man Stuart Ashford quickly went bowled for 0 (3 balls), 184-7, Jake Muncaster was his next victim bowled for 9 (10 balls), 203-8. Matthew Grindley was his third and final wicket caught by Will Vause for 3 (6 balls), 211-9.

Ben Howarth had been scoring at a run a ball and was joined by Jamie Thomson as Blackpool closed on 211-9 in their 50 overs with Ben Howarth 31no (30 balls)(2x4) and Jamie Thomson 0no (7 balls).

Eddy Read did the damage with 4-78 from 15, supported by Amar Ullah 3-73 off 13, Gautam Waghela 1-17 from 8, Tom Davidson 1-27 off 10 and Will Vause 0-22 from 4

Chorley v Kendal

Chorley won the toss at Windsor Park and invited the visitors to bat first, Maximus Winskill and Darren Nightingale gave them a great start scoring over six an over, Darren Nightingale was the first man out lbw to Will Moulton for 30 (20 balls)(2x4, 3x6), 61-1.

Finlay Richardson was the Kendal number three and continued to score freely until he was caught by James Dunn off Sam Steeple for 21 (11 balls)(2x4, 1x6), 86-2, Cole Abrahams was the new batsman and with Winskill took the score to 154 when James Dunn had Cole Abrahams caught by Sam Steeple for 36 (61 balls)(4x4, 1x6), 154-3.

Freddie Fallows replaced Abrahams and went on the attack reaching his fifty in only 13 balls scoring 30 in one over, Joseph Tiffin broke the partnership with the wicket of Maximus Winskill caught and bowled for 60 (114 balls)(7 x4), 235-4.

Bradley Earl joined Fallows, Freddie Fallows reached his century but was out three balls later caught by James Dunn off Edwin Moulton for 110 (7x4, 12x6), 279-5. James Bowman came to the wicket and continued to score quickly and with Earl took the score past the three hundred when Bradley Earl was caught and bowled by James Dunn for 15 (12 balls)(2x4), 307-6.

Chris Miller was next in but in the last over lost James Bowman caught by Maxwell Seedall off James Dunn for 41 (29 balls)(3x4, 2x6), 349-7. Louis Backhouse came to the wicket and with Miller saw Kendal close on a record breaking total of 356-7 in their 50 overs, Chris Miller was 17no (18 balls)(2x4) and Louis Backhouse 2no (2 balls).

For Chorley James Dunn took 3-60 from 9 overs, Sam Steeple 1-36 off 4, Joseph Tiffin 1-37 from 4, Will Moulton 1-69 off 15, Edwin Moulton 1-71 from 14 and Matt Dawson 0-45 off 2.

The Chorley openers got them off to a good start but both fell within four runs of each other, Maxwell Seedall was caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Louis Backhouse for 21 (23 balls)(4x4), 40-1.

The Chorley number three was Edwin Moulton but with only four runs added Stuart Naden fell caught by Maximus Winskill off Sam Sharp for 16 (34 balls)(3x4), 44-2, Keegan Petersen was in next and with Moulton kept the scoreboard moving, Joe Davies and Freddie Fallows was introduced into the attack, Joe Davies made the breakthrough having Edwin Moulton caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 18 (22 balls)(4x4), 85-3.

Will Moulton was the new batsman but disaster for the hosts he was run out by Freddie Fallows for 9 (12 balls), 100-4. Kieran Yould came in next but with only four runs added he was bowled by Joe Davies for 1 (3 balls), 104-5. Jospeh Tiffin joined Petersen but lost his partner five runs later stumped by Finlay Richardson off Freddie Fallows for 27 (39 balls)(4x4), 109-6.

Ben Simpkins was the new batsman, Louis Backhouse was brought back into the attack and mopped up the tail, He had Ben Simpkins caught by Cole Abrahams for 11 (14 balls)(1x4, 1x6), 121-7, two runs later Joseph Tiffin went the same way caught Abrahams bowled Backhouse for 4 (14 balls), 123-8. In his next over with the first two balls Sam Steeple was caught by Cole Abrahams for 0 (2 balls), 123-9 next ball he claimed his fifth wicket Matt Dawson bowled for 0 (ball) as Chorley were bowled out for 123 in 29-2 overs.

Louis Backhouse took 5-33 from 9.2 overs, Joe Davies 2-28 off 5, Freddie Fallows 1-26 from 8 and Sam Sharp 1-31 off 7.

Fulwood & Broughton v Leyland

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Highfield ground and put the visitors into bat, they did not get off to a good start losing Alexander Eyre in the first over bowled by Chris Brookes for 0 (4 balls), 1-1.

Coming into bat at three was Sam Oldham but he did not last very long caught by Ben Rosbottom off Jon Fenton for 5 (6 balls), 21-2. Lloyd Tennant was the new batsmen and with Karl Cross were looking good until Simon Kerrigan was introduced into the attack, in his third over he had Karl Cross caught behind by James McWilliam for 41 (49 balls)(5x4, 2x6), 89-3.

Jacob Wright replaced Cross but soon became wicket number two for Simon Kerrigan caught by Jon Fenton for 11 (15 balls)(1x6), 105-4. Ned Patterson was Tennant's new partner and were going well until the introduction of Ewen Mansford who had Ned Patterson caught by Chris Brookes for 36 (42 balls)(4x4, 1x6), 178-5.

Ross Bretherton replaced Patterson and was supporting Tennant at a run a ball, Simon Kerrigan claimed his third wicket bowling Ross Bretherton for 29 (28 balls)(2x4, 2x6), 225-6. James Rounding was next in and saw Lloyd Tennant reach his century and then shortly afterwards fell caught behind by James McWilliam off Jon Fenton for 116, (129 balls)(14x4, 3x6), 26907.

Andrew Jacques was the new batsman and with Rounding saw Leyland close on 278-7 in their 50 overs, James Rounding was 15no (23 balls) and Andrew Jacques 7no (4 balls)(1x6).

The Fulwood & Broughton bowling was Simon Kerrigan 3-62 from 15 overs, Jon Fenton 2-112 off 14, Ewen Mansord 1-16 from 4, Chris Brookes 1-19 off 6, Todd Winder 0-8 from 1, James Lupton 0-25 off 5, and Cameron Port 0-50 from 5.

The hosts reply got off to a bad start losing Cameron Port run out by Lloyd Tennant for 8 (8 balls), 20-1. Number three Simon Kerrigan soon lost Ewen Mansford caught by Ross Bretherton off Ned Patterson for 15 (23 balls)(1x4, 1x6), 31-2.

The incoming batsman was Ben Rosbottom and with Simon Kerrigan were moving along nicely until Andrew Jacques replaced Ned Patterson, in his third over he took two wickets, Simon Kerrigan was his first caught by James Rounding for 20 (32 balls)(2x4), 71-3. four balls later he bowled Muhammad Zaid for 0 (4 balls), 71-4.

Ben Parkinson joined Rosbottom but soon became wicket number three for Andrew Jacques caught by Sam Oldham for 5 (23 balls), 87-5, in Jacques's next over he had James McWilliam caught behind by Adan Sexton for 1 (9 balls), 89-6.

Jon Fenton was next in, Ben Rosbottom had been keeping one end going but it was his turn to fall caught behind by Adam Sexton off Sam Oldham for 43 (56 balls)(6x4), 105-7.

James Lupton came in but soon became wicket number five for Andrew Jacques lbw for 5 (9 balls), 112-8. Chris Brookes was number ten and lost his partner without further addition to the score Jon Fenton caught by Karl Cross for 7 (23 balls), 112-9.

Last man in was Todd Winder but with only one run added Chris Brookes was out caught by Ned Patterson off Sam Oldham for 1 (14 balls) as Fulwood & Broughton were bowled out for 113 in 33.5 overs with Todd Winder 0no (4 balls).

Andrew Jacques took 5-30 from 12 overs, Sam Oldham 3-18 off 8.5, Ned Patterson 1-24 from 5 and Ross Bretherton 0-39 off 8.

Longridge v Fleetwood

Longridge won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and asked the visitors to take the first knock in a 60 over match. Fleetwood got off to a terrible start losing Tomas King in the first over caught by Zac Christie off Jonathan Millward for 0 (2 balls), 0-1.

Harry McAleer was the man coming in at three and with Jeremy Davies set about building a score, They had reached 60 when Jeremy Davies was out caught behind by Taariq Chiecktey off Kieran McClintock for 28 (44 balls)(4x4), 60-2. Michael Rippon was in next and with McAleer put on 106 runs when Harry McAleer was caught by Joshua Mullin off Ollie Mullin for 74 (73 balls)(10 x4, 2x6), 166-3.

The new batsman was Hassan Mughal but was soon out lbw to Ollie Mullin for 13 (11 balls)(1x4, 1x6), 186-4. Declan Clerkin came to the wicket with two overs to go, Michael Rippon opened up hitting 35 runs in the two overs as Fleetwood closed on 227-4 in their 30 overs with Michael Rippon 88no (52 balls)(4x4, 9x6) with Declan Clerkin 4no (1 ball).

Ollie Mullin took 2-61 from 8, Jonathan Millward 1-23 off 7, Kieran McClintock 1-57 from 7, Jake Durnell 0-24 off 3 and Gabriel Dowthwaite 0-56 from 5.

In reply Longridge lost Joshua Mullin early bowled by Hassan Mughal for 5 (10 balls), 13-1. Zac Christie was in at three and with Taariq Chiecktey were going well until the introduction of Matthew Siddall who had an immediate effect taking two wickets in his first three balls. He bowled Taariq Chiecktey for 26 (18 balls)(3x4, 1x6), 67-2. two balls later new man Luke Platt was bowled for 0 (2 balls), 67-3.

Rob Hollinghurst was next in but with only three runs added was caught behind by Harry McAleer off Hassan Mughal for 1 (5 balls), 70-4. Tom Howarth joined Christie, disaster struck for the hosts with Tom Howarth run out for 10 (10 balls)(2x4), 86-5.

Kieram McClintock replaced Howarth but with only one run added was out lbw to Matthew Siddall for 0 (2 balls), 87-6. Any hopes for the hosts disappeared with the fall of Zac Christie caught behind by Harry McAleer off Michael Rippon for 39 (25 balls)(3x4, 2x6), 93-7.

Gabriel Dowthwaite and Ollie Mullin were the new batsmen but Gabriel Dowthwaite was next out caught behind by Harry McAleer off Micael Rippon for 10 (10 balls)(1x6), 106-8.

Matthew Siddall then mopped up the tail, wicket number four Ollie Mullin bowled for 13 (26 balls), 120-9 followed one run later with his fifth wicket Jake Durnell caught by Callum Birtwell-Jones for 6 (10 balls) as Longridge were bowled out for 121 in 19.5 overs with Jonathan Millward 1no (1 ball).

Matthew Siddall took 5-16 from 6.5 overs, Michael Rippon 2-35 off 5, Hassan Mughal 2-36 from 5 and Declan Clerkin0-32 off 3.

The was Fleetwood's first victory of the season.

Netherfield v Garstang

Netherfield won the toss at Parside Road and chose to bat first,

The opening pair of Reece Irving and Ben Barrow got them off to a good start, Sumit Ruikar was brought on to bowl and in his second over bowled Reece Irving for 28 (51 balls)(4x4, 1x6), 49-1.

Cole Mcconchie was the Netherfield number three and with Ben Barrow doubled the score when Sumit Ruikar claimed his second wicket bowling Ben Barrow for 35 (58 balls)(4x4), 100-2.

John Huck joined Mcconchie and they were just building a score when the weather intervened and the match abandoned with Netherfield on 138-2 in 31 overs. Cole Mcconchie was 47no (52 balls)(5x4, 1x6) and John Huck 19no (25 balls)(2x4, 1x6).

The Garstang bowling was Sumit Ruikar 2-29 from 11 overs, Joe Barlow 0-7 off 1, Ian Walling 0-22 from 6, Corey Cater 0-24 off 5, Ernie Collinson 0-24 from 3 and Tom Higson 0-29 off 5

LEAGUE MATCHES: ROUND 9

Carlisle v Penwortham

The match was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Carnforth v Thonrton Cleveleys

Carnforth won the toss at Lodge Quarry and decided to bat first, Ryan Nelson and Freddie Whatmuff got them off to a good start, Freddie Whatmuff was the first to go caught behind by Sam Curwen off Cameron Chisholm for 20 (35 balls)(3x4), 45-1.

Bradley Hoyle was the man at three and with Nelson continued to make progress until he was out lbw to Jake Apperley for 16 (29 balls)(2x4), 79-2. next in was James Park-Johnson but he was soon out caught and bowled by Joshua Sackfield for 6 (18 balls), 92-3.

Dylan Conroy joined Nelson but with only eleven runs added Ryan Nelson was bowled by Joshua Sackfield for 44 (71 balls)(6x4), 103-4. Shane Dixon was the new batsman and the scoreboard was moving along until Dylan Conroy was caught by Jacob Sackfield off Joshua Sackfield for 23 (28 balls), 144-5.

Tom Parkinson came to the wicket but with only one run added the rains came and the innings closed on 145-5 in 32.4 overs, Shane Dixon was 24no (19 balls)(2x4) and Tom Parkinson 0no (4 balls).

The Thornton Cleveleys bowling was Joshua Sackfield 3-38 from 9 overs, Cameron Chisholm 1-31 off 7, Jake Apperley 1-42 from 8.4 and Joshua Rolinson 0-32 off 8.

When play resumed the visitors were set a target of 109 from 22 overs. Josh Borrell and Joshua Sackfield got the visitors off to a good start, they were 38 off five overs when Joshua Sackfield was out caught behind by Shane Dixon off Dylan Conroy for 17 (18 balls)(3x4), 38-1.

Number three Sam Curwen supported Borrell until they were 6 runs short of victory, Stan Rich had other idea's and had Josh Borrell caught by James Park-Johnson for 48 (41 balls)(7x4,1x6), 103-2.

Six runs required off 6.2 overs with 8 wickets in hand, Joshua Rolinson joined Curwen but two runs later they were both out, Joshua Rolinson was caught and bowled by Freddie Whatmuff for 1 (8 balls), 105-3, Sam Curwen followed bowled by Tom Parkinson for 26 (42 balls)(2x4), 105-4.

Cameron Chisholm and Christopher Hedges were the new batsmen, Christopher Hedges hit the winning run to claim victory for the visitors on 109-4 in 20 overs, Christopher Hedges was 3no (6 balls) and Cameron Chisholm 1no (6 balls).

For Carnforth Freddie Whatmuff 1-3 form 2 overs, Tom Parkinson 1-14 off 5, Stan Rich 1-20 from 3, Dylan Conroy 1-31 off 5 and James Park-Johnson 0-39 from 5.

Euxton v Barrow

Barrow won the toss at Balshaw Park and chose to bat first, they did not get off to the best of starts losing both openers early, Drew Postlethwaite was first out caught behind by Jack Morgan off Joseph Bowden for 3 (15 balls), 11-1, his partner Simon Chadd followed caught behind by Jack Morgan off Joseph Bowden for 6 (25 balls), 16-2.

We now had two new batsmen Sam Dutton and Dikshant Vairagi and they began to rebuild the innings, Joseph Bowden claimed his third wicket Sam Dutton caught by Ben Houghton for 11 (19 balls)(2x4), 38-3.

Toby Mowat joined Vairagi and they kept the scoreboard ticking over until Toby Mowat was caught by Jack Shovelton off James Bone for 13 (17 balls)(3x4), 71-4. Jack Singleton was in next but was soon out caught behind by Jack Morgan off James Bone for 7 (15 balls), 96-4.

Cameron Dougall came to the wicket but disaster for the visitors as he was run out by Joseph Bowden for 0 (8 balls), 97-6. Nishanth Arun replaced Dougall and with Vairagi had a partnership of 57 broken when Dikshant Vairagi was caught by Ben Houghton off Joseph Bowden for 82 (103 balls)(9x4, 2x6), 154-7.

Daryl Wearing was the new batsman but with only one run added he was bowled by Louis Sweeney for 0 (6 balls), 155-8. Sam Henderson was in next but lost his partner Nishanth Arun caught by Josh Tolley off Louis Sweeney for 33 (70 balls)(3x4), 173-9.

Ben Carr came in at eleven, Louis Sweeney claimed his third wicket Sam Henderson caught by Jack Shovelton for 7 (13 balls) as Barrow were 174 all out in 48.3 overs with Ben Carr 1no (1 ball).

Joseph Bowden took 4-51 from 12 overs, Louis Sweeney 3-13 off 3.3, James Bone 2-43 from 15, Elliot Mackreal 0-12 off 6, Jack Shovelton 0-19 from 6 and Joseph Barker 0-35 off 6.

Barrow had an early success having Max Harper caught by Cameron Dougall off Sam Henderson for 8 (20 balls), 19-1. James Bone came in at three and with Josh Tolley steadily began to make progress. Their partnership was broken by when Sam Dutton had Josh Tolley lbw for 49 (91 balls)(8x4), 85-2.

Disaster for the hosts losing three wickets for seven runs, Dikshant Vairagi was the man doing the damage with the three wickets, two wickets in one over, incoming batsman Ben Houghton was his first caught by Sam Dutton for 1 (5 balls), 86-3, next man in Hakeem Perryman was bowled first ball for 0, 86-4, he then took the vital wicket of James Bone caught by Daryl Wearing for 27 (66 balls)(4x4), 93-5.

Jack Shovelton and Jack Morgan were left to rebuild the innings, but once again the hosts lost three quick wickets, Jack Shovelton was caught by Dikshant Vairagi off Sam Dutton for 16 (19 balls)(2x6), 109-6, in came Joseph Barker but with only two runs added Jack Morgan was out lbw to Sam Dutton for 7 (19 balls), 111-7. Joseph Barker was the new batman but was quickly out caught and bowled by Dikshant Vairagi for 0 (4 balls), 113-8.

Jack Bowden and Louis Sweeney battled away and were getting closer and closer to their target, they required eleven runs off the final over, Joseph Bowden was stumped by Drew Postlethwaite off Simon Chadd for 25 (35 balls)(2x4), 166-9. Elliott Mackrael came to the wicket for the last two balls scored one run as Euxton fell 7 runs short closing on 167-9 in their 50 overs, Louis Sweeney was 22no (38 balls) and Elliot Mackrael 1no (2 balls).

Dikshant Vairagi took 5-57 from 15 overs, Sam Dutton 3-37 off 15, Simon Chadd 1-5 from 1, Sam Henderson 1-30 off 8 and Dary Wearing 0-38 from 11.

Mawdesley v Vernon Carus

Mawdesley won the toss at Rectory Field and invited the visitors to bat first, Vernon Carus lost an early wicket Hasan Zaman caught and bowled by Joshua Adamson for 0 (4 balls), 1-1.

Haren Shetty came in at three and with Ian Dunn moved the score along until Joshua Unsworth had Haren Shetty caught by Nathan Trengove for 15 (27 balls)(2x4), 46-2. Wes Royle was next in but with only two runs added lost Ian Dunn caught behind by Fyffe Dennis off Neil O'Malley for 21 (47 balls)(3x4), 48-3.

The new batsman was Jaxon Cornford but he lost Wes Royle bowled by Joshua Adamson for 1 (8 balls), 54-4. Robert Bridges joined Cornford, Joshua Adamson claimed his third wicket bowling Jaxon Cornford for 8 (19 balls), 76-5.

Jamie Rigby replaced Cornford and with Bridges were making good progress , Oliver Ellicott broke the partnership having Robert Bridges lbw for 36 (61 balls)(7 x4), 136-6, Matthew Timms came in next but was soon out bowled by Neil O'Malley for 2 (10 balls), 143-7.

Jacob Holland was the new batsman but he too did not last long another Neil O'Malley victim caught by Nathan Trengove for 2 (15 balls), 147-8. The incoming batsman was Muhammad Patel but with only four runs added saw Jamie Rigby fall caught by Aneeq Hassan off Oliver Ellicott for 36 (54 balls)(3x4, 1x6), 153-9.

Kashif Jamil was in at number eleven but two runs later Muhammad Patel was run out by Edward Hurst for 1 (14 balls) as Vernon Carus was bowled out for 155 in 43.3 overs. Kashif Jamil was 2no (2 balls).

The Mawdesley bowling was Joshua Adamson 3-36 from 13 overs, Neil O'Malley 3-41 off 15, Oliver Ellicott 2-37 from 9, Joshua Unsworth 1-28 off 6 and Lee Berrie 0-0 from 0.3.

Due to the weather Mawdesley were set a revised target of 154 in 47 overs, their openers Nathan Trengove and Daniel Unsworth got the off to a good start scoring at five an over, Kashif Jamil broke the partnership bowling Nathan Trengove for 46 (38 balls)(6x4, 2x6), 62-1.

Coming in at number three was Oliver Ellicott and Daniel Unsworth kept the scoreboard moving until three wickets fell for two runs. Daniel Unsworth was the first to go lbw to Kashif Jamil for 20 (55 balls), 84-2. Two runs later Oliver Ellicott was caught by Robert Bridges off Ian Dunn for 16 (25 balls)(2x4. 1x6), 86-3, Fyffe Dennis followed without addition to the score caught by Ian Dunn off Kashif Jamil for 0 (3 balls), 86-4.

There were two new batsmen Aneeq Hassan and Edward Hurst and they steadily moved the score along until they reached nelson when Aneeq Hassan was caught by Hasan Zaman off Ian Dunn for 13 (28 balls), 111-5.

Lee Berrie joined Edward Hurst, the return of Muhammad Patel into the attack saw him bowl Edward Hurst for 10 (24 balls) with his third ball, 121-6. Ben Munslow came to the wicket but two runs later he was caught behind by Haren Shetty off Ian Dunn for 1 (12 balls), 123-7.

Joshua Unsworth replaced Munslow, things began to look bleak for the hosts with the loss of two wickets in two overs, Muhammad Patel bowled Joshua Unsworth for 3 (15 balls), 136-8, next over new man Joshua Adamson was out lbw to Jacob Holland for 2 (6 balls), 140-9.

The hosts required 15 runs in seven overs with the last pair at the wicket and the visitors one wicket, Lee Berrie 18no (48 balls) and Nathan O'Malley 8no (5 balls) saw Mawdesley home on 155-9 in 42.4 overs.

Ian Dunn took 3-12 from 12 overs, Kashif Jamil 3-43 off 9, Muhammad Patel 2-39 from 9, Jacob Holland 1-35 off 9 and Matthew Timms 0-23 from 3.4.

St Annes v Great Eccleston

Great Eccleston won the toss at Vernon Road and decided to bat first, Nisanth Nithian and Will Turnbull opened, Nisanth Nithian went early caught by Nathan Bolus off Mitch Bolus for 9 (23 balls)(2x4), 16-1.

Alexander Rhodes was the visitors number three but lost Will Turnbull caught by Alex Urquhart off Mitch Bolus for 13 (30 balls)(3 x4), 33-2, Muhammed Fazil came in next and with Rhodes took the score past the hundred, Promod Maduwantha broke the partnership having Alexander Rhodes lbw for 47 (43 balls)(9 x4), 108-3. Mohamed Nadeem was the new batsman and struggled for runs eventually falling lbw to Promod Maduwantha for 2 (30 balls), 130-4.

Joe McMillan joined Fazil and were going well taking the score past the two hundred, Rory Urquhart was brought back into the attack and removed Mohammed Fazil caught and bowled for 66 (99 balls)(10x4), 205-5.

Richard Booth replaced Fazil but soon became wicket number two for Rory Urquhart bowled for 3 (6 balls), 215-6, Alex Swale came to the wicket but with only one run added Joe McMillan was out caught by Thomas Bradley off Rory Urquhart for 35 (50 balls)(4x4, 1x6), 216-7.

The new batsman was Will Thistlethwaite, Rory Urquhart claimed his fourth wicket bowling Alex Swale for 1 (7 balls), 219-8. Phil Booth was the man at ten and with Thistlethwaite saw Great Eccleston close on 234 for 8 in their 50 overs, Will Thistlethwaite was 5no (6 balls) and Phil Booth 12no (6 balls)(1x6).

For St Annes Rory Urquhart took 4-33 from 6 overs, Promod Maduwantha 2-28 off 12, Mitch Bolus 2-54 from 11, Alex Urquhart 0-9 off 2, Tom Bradley 0-34 from 4, and Lukman Vahaluwala 0-66 off 15.

The St Annes reply got off to a bad start losing Lukman Vahaluwala caught by Mohamed Nadeem off Alexander Rhodes for 6 (5 balls), Luke Jardine was the St Annes number three and with Nathan Armstrong steadily moved the score along until Phil Booth was brought into the attack and in his second over had Luke Jardine caught behind by Will Thistlethwaite for 21 (39 balls)(4x4), 47-2.

Promod Maduwantha joined Armstrong, Nathan Armstrong reached his fifty and then fell to the Thistlethwaite/Booth combination, caught behind by Will Thistlethwaite off Phil Booth for 50 (72)(6x4)(1x6), 98-3. Nathan Bolus was the next batsman, Mohamed Nadeem struck with two wickets in an over, Nathan Bolus was lbw for 12 (18 balls)(2x4), 117-4, Thomas Bradley was the new batsman but was bowled for 0 (2 balls), 117-5.

Jevan Isidore replaced Bradley and went on the attack, he was next out caught by Richard Booth off Mohamed Nadeem for 32 (21 balls)(3x4, 2x6), 164-6. Alex Urquhart was the incoming batsman but was soon out caught and bowled by Mohammed Fazil for 4 (8 balls), 183-7.

Ethan Hill was Promod Maduwantha's new partner but with only four runs added was bowled by Mohammed Fazil for 1 (3 balls), 187-8. Rory Urquhart was in at ten and was scoring freely, we are now at the last over, Phil Booth is bowling it, St Annes require four runs to win, Rory Urquhart takes a run off the third ball, three runs required, Promod Maduwantha is bowled for 73 (106 balls)(2x4), 233-9. Mitch Bolus comes in and takes a run off the fifth ball, two required for victory one for the tie, They go for the run but Rory Urquhart is run out for 29 (25 balls)(2x4, 1x6), St Annes were 233 all out in their 50 overs giving victory to Great Eccleston and the first defeat of the season in the league for St Annes. Mitch Bolus was 1no (1 ball).

The bowling figures were Phil Booth 3-68 from 15 overs, Mohamed Nadeem 3-74 off 14, Mohammed Fazil 2-30 from 5, Alexander Rhodes 1-35 off 5 and Jim Proctor 0-26 from 11.
