The Northern Cricket League Review

The fifth round of matches in Northern Premier League 2024 season saw a Fleetwood win over Longridge and remain top of the league.

Netherfield defeated Euxton and go second, the Chorley win against Blackpool moves them into third.

Fulwood & Brouhton beat newcomers Settle and Garstang defeated Mawdesley with Kendal having a winning draw agaimst St Annes.

DIVISION ONE:

Chorley v Blackpool

Chorley won the toss at Windsor Park and invited the visitors to bat first, Kasim Munir and Arran Lewin opened but were soon parted, Kasim Munir was caught behind by Ben Simpkins off James Dunn for 4 (9 balls), 9-1

Shivam Chaudhary came in at three, the scorebaord was ticking over thanks to Chaudhary, The introduction of Sam Steeple resulted in the loss off four wickets for 9 runs, Edwin Moulton had Shivam Chaudhary caught behind by Ben Simpkins for 20 (29 balls), 48-2

In the next over Steeple's second he bowled Arran Lewin for 8 (43 balls), 48-3, The new batsmen were Andrew Needham and Dylan Henshall, Andrew Needham quickly went caught by Kieran Yould off Sam Steeple for 1 (6 balls), 53-4

Jake Muncaster replaced Needham but became victim number three for Sam Steeple caught behind by Ben Simpkins for 0 ( 6 balls), 57-5. Ben Howarth joined Henshall and they dug in but to no avail, Steeple struck again bowling Dylan Henshall for 13 (21 balls), 66-6

Next in was Tom Myerscough and he battled along but lost his partner Ben Howarth caught by James Dunn off Marques Ackerman for 5 (25 balls), 74-7. Ali Munir came to the wicket and became Sam Steeple's fifth wicket bowled for 0 (6 balls), 79-8.

Matthew Grindley came in at ten but quickly fell to Sam Steeple caught by Zayn Wadiwala for 2 (8 balls), 85-9. The Blackpool innings closed on 92 in 31.5 overs with Tom Myerscough caught behind by Ben Simpkins off James Dunn for 12 (35 balls) with Ansar Noorstani 2no (3 balls).

Sam Steeple was the Chorley star with 6-15 from 10 overs with James Dunn 2-27 off 5.5, Marques Ackerman 1-5 from 4, Edwin Moulton 1-10 off 8 and Will Moulton 0-10 from 4

The hosts openers Will Moulton and Miller Childs's partnership was 26 broken with Ben Howarth stumping Miller Childs off Ali Munir for 12 (19 balls), 26-1. Edwin Moulton joined Will Moulton and watched as Will Moulton blasted the hosts to victory with 69no (7x4, 5x6) as Chorley closed on 96-1 from 13 overs with Edwin Moulton 6no (17 balls).

The Blackpool bowling was Ali Munr 1-38 from 6, Ansar Noorstani 0-10 off 2 and Matthew Grindley 0-39 from 5

Fleetwood v Longridge

Fleetwood won the toss at Broadwater and decided to bat first, Tomas King and Jeremy Davies were the openers, Tomas King was the first to go caught by Alex Mason off Zach Proctor for 6 (17 balls), 8-1. Zach Proctor then accounted for Jeremy Davies caught by Rhys Morgan for 3 (7 balls), 11-2.

Andy Drake and Vathsal Govind were the new batsmen their partnership was 74 broken by Jake Durnell trapping Andy Drake lbw for 45 (72 balls), 85-3, Harry McAleer was in next but became Jake Durnell's next victim stumped by Tom Turner for 1 (6 balls). 88-4.

Adam Sharrocks replaced McAleer and with Govind took the score pass the hundred when he was stumped by Tom Turner off Alex Mason for 8 (15 balls), 107-5, Declan Clerkin was Govind's next partner, he hit two sixes which saw the return of Zach Proctor to the attack and the wicket of Clerkin caught by Taariq Chiecktey for 16 (19 balls), 140-6.

New batsman Charlie Clark fell lbw to Jake Durnell for 3 (6 balls), 145-7. Nathan Bend joined Govind supporting him until he was bowled by Zach Proctor for 12 (34 balls), 178-8.

Jacob Proctor bowled Kian Farnworth for 1 (4 balls), 184-9. Vathsal Govind was last man out run out for 88 (117 balls) as Fleetwood were 200 all out in 49.5 overs with Matthew Siddall 0no (4 balls).

The opneing bowlers Zach Proctor 4-47 from 12 overs and Jake Durnell 3-60 off 16 were the main wicket takers with Jacob Proctor 1-30 from 7.5 and Alex Mason 1-48 off 15.

The visitors reply got off to a bad start losing Luke Platt bowled by Kian Farnworth for 0 (1 ball), 0-1, Zac Christie came to the wicket but was soon out bowled by Declan Clerkin for 9 (11 balls), 11-2.

Taariq Chiecktey was next in and was scoring at a run a ball until out lbw to Declan Clerkin for 23 (22 balls), 47-3, Rob Hollinghurst joined Joshua Mullin, with five runs added Vathsal Govind trapped Hollinghurst lbw for 0 (12 balls), 52-4.

Zach Proctor replaced Hollinghurst and with Joshua Mullin slowly moved the score along, Their partnership was 20 when Joshua Mullin's fighting innings came to and end caught behind by Harry McAleer off Matthew Siddall for 30 (88 balls), 72-5.

New batsman Tom Turner lasted four balls lbw to Vathsal Govind for 0, 73-6. Alex Mason replaced Turner but did not fare any better lbw to Matthew Siddall for 0 (2 balls), 74-7.

Disaster struck for the visitors with the loss of Zach Proctor without further addition to the score lbw to Vathsal Govind for 5 (33 balls), 74-7. Rhys Morgan and Jake Durnell were the new batsmen and knuckled down to try and save the game. Jake Durnell had made 11 (30 balls) when he fell lbw to Declan Clerkin, 97-9.

The visitors innings closed on 105 in 41.2 overs with Rhys Morgan caught by Tomas King off Matthew Siddall for 18 (39 balls) with Jacob Proctor 0no (7 balls).

The wickts were shared amongst the Fleetwood bowlers Declan Clerkin 3-20 from 15 overs, Matthew Siddall 3-24 off 10.2, Vathsal Govind 3-31 from 12 and Kian Farnworth 1-22 off 4

Fulwood & Broughton v Settle

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Highfield ground and asked the visitors to bat first, they got off to a terrible start losing three wickets for eight runs, the first out was Archie Phillipson caught by Matthew Smith off Jon Fenton for 0 (5 balls), 1-1.

Number three was Ashen Silva who lost his partner Lewis Smith caught by Brendan Morris off Khalil Patel for 2 (10 balls), 5-2, New man in John Davidson was bowled by Jon Fenton for 2 (4 balls), 8-3. Benjamin Hulse joined Ashen Silva and had doubled the score when Ashen Silva was caught behind by James McWilliam off Jon Fenton for 11 (30 balls), 19-4.

Amar Ullah replaced Silva and with Hulse took the score to 43 when Chris Brookes was brought into the attack and had Amar Ullah caught by Lewis Wellings for 10 (24 balls), 43-5. Next in was Tom Davidson who went caught Lewis Wellings bowled by Simon Kerrigan for 1 (3 balls), 44-6.

Things did not improve for the visitors losing their last four wickets for five runs. Robbie Davidson was the first to go caught by Simon Kerrigan off Chris Brookes for 0 (10 balls), 45-7, without addition new man William Davidson was bowled by Chris Brookes for 1 (11 balls), 45-8.

Simon Kerrigan mopped up the tail, Ll Smith out lbw for 1 (5 balls), 50-9, three balls later he bowled Will Smith fro 0 (3 balls) as Settle were 50 all out in 29.4 overs with Benjamin Hulse 18no (73 balls).

Three Fulwood & Broughton bowlers took three wickets, Simon Kerrigan 3-2 from 6.4 overs, Chris Brookes 3-6 off 5, Jon Fenton 3-26 from 10 and Khalil Patel 1-15 off 8.

Matthew Smith and Jon Fenton opened for the hosts, the introduction of Amar Ullah into the attack saw success in his second over bowling Jon Fenton for 6 (18 balls), 20-1.

Brendan Morris came in at three and quickly lost his partner Matthew Smith caught by Ll Smith off Tom Davidson for 13 (18 balls), 24-2. Simon Kerrigan replaced Smith but with only ten further runs added Amar Ullah bowled Brnedan Morris for 13 (13 balls), 34-3.

James McWilliam 12no (14 balls) joined Kerrigan 6no (18 balls) and they saw the hosts to victory on 51-3 in 13.3 overs.

The Settle bowling was Amar Ullah 2-16 from 5.3 overs, Tom Davidson 1-21 off 6, Will Smith 0-5 from 1 and Ll Smith 0-8 off 1.

Kendal v St Annes

Kendal won the toss at Shap Road and elected to bay first, Freddie Fallows and Evan Williams had an opening partnership of 24 broken with Freedie Fallows caught by Nathan Bolus off Tom Bradley for 22 (13 balls), 24-1.

Max Winskill was in at three, the pair were going along slowly until Tom Bradley struck having Max Winskill caught by Ashen Dauwattage for 10 (33 balls), 62-2. Bradley made further inroads into the Kendal innings bowling Sam Dutton for 3 (8 balls), 68-3.

Bradley Earl joined Williams and they were approaching the fifty partnership when Earl was caught behind by James Bradley off Joe Davies for 19 (35 balls), 116-4, Davies struck again the next ball Finlay Richardson caught by Ashen Daluwattage for 0 (1 ball), 116-5.

Lukman Vahaluwala quickly accounted for Lewis Richardson lbw for 4 (9 balls), 131-6. Sam Sharp was next in and became wicket number two for Lukman Vahaluwala bowled for 3 (10 balls), 137-7.

Chris Miller joined Evan Williams and they took the score past the two hundred with Evan Williams reaching his century, Chris Miller was next out run out by Ryan Birkman for 18 (38 balls) 213-8.

The Kendal innings closed on 229-9 in their 50 overs with Evan Williams being run out by Tom Bradley for 140 (151 balls) (10x4, 5x6), Louis Backhouse was 1no (2 balls).

The St Annes bowling figures were Tom Bradley 3-59 from 15 overs, Joe Davies 2-40 off 8, Lukman Vahaluwala 2-41 from 15, Ashen Daluwattage 0-20 off 2, Yohan De Silva 0-63 from 9 and Mitch Bo;us 0-4 off 1

The St Annes reply got off to a bad start losing Luke Jardine caught by Evan Williams off Louis Backhouse for 2 (13 balls), 12-1. Nathan Bolus was number three and with Yohan De Silva steadily built up the score until Bolus was caught by Louis Backhouse off Kuldeep Singh for 15 (45 balls), 64-2.

Lukman Vahaluwala joined De Silva and were going along nicely, but the introduction of Freddie Fallows changed things he had Yohan De Silva caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 58 (88 balls), 117-4. Nathan Armstrong replaced De Silva but became Fallows next victim lbw for 8 (24 balls), 117-4

Ryan Birkman joined Vahaluwala but soon fell caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Freddie Fallows for 6 (11 balls), 133-5. Chris Miller then took the vital wicket of Lukman Vahaluwala lbw for 42 (72 balls), 137-6.

Joe Davies and Mitch Bolus were the new batsmen, Joe Davies became Freddie Fallows fourth wicket caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 1 (12 balls), 146-7. New man Ashen Daluwattage 7no (14 balls) and Mitch Bolus 31no (23 balls)(5x4) saw the visitors close on 175-7 in their 50 overs.

Freddie Fallows took 4-38 from 13 overs, Kuldeep Singh 1-10 off 6, Louis Backhouse 1-45 from 7, Chris Miller 1-61 off 15 and Sam Sharp 0-18 from 9.

Mawdesley v Garstang

Mawdesley won the toss at Rectory Field and put the visitors into bat, Garstang did not get off to the greatest of starts losing three wickets for three runs, Christopher Andrews claimed the first wicket Tom Higson caaught by Tony Ambrose for 6 (7 balls), 19-1. Three runs later 2 wickets fell Imran Butt was lbw to Joshua Unsworth for 3 (11 balls) 22-3, Michael Walling followed caught by Jon Stone off Christopher Andrews for 13 (20 balls), 22-3.

Mark Walling and Ashton Charles were the new batsmen, Andrews struck again having Ashton Charles caught and bowled for 7 (10 balls), 34-4. Things did not improve for the visitors with new man Hugo Croft run out by Christopher Andrews for 0 (6 balls), 40-5.

Matthew Crowther joined Mark Walling and they slowly began to rebuild the innings, their partnership was 31 broken by Neil O'Malley bowling Mark Walling for 27 (56 balls), 71-6, Ian Walling was next in but on reaching 6 (8 balls) he was caught behind by Fyffe Dennis off Dominic Hendricks, 89-7.

Danny Gilbert was Matthew Crowther's new partner and they added forty runs when Dominic Hendricks had Danny Gilbert caught by Joshua Unsworth for 17 (40 balls), 129-8, Gregour Carr came in and continued the fight. Dominic Hendricks claimed his third and the vital wicket of Matthew Crowther caught by Lee Berrie for 51 (90 balls), 146-9.

The innings closed on 159 in 47.5 overs with Dominic Hendrick bowling Waris Khan for 2 (8 balls) with Gregour Carr 18no (33 balls).

For Mawdesley Dominic Hendricks took 4-39 from 11.5 overs, Christopher Andrews 3-26 off 8, Neil O'Malley 1-22 from 7, Joshua Unsworth 1-27 off 11, Matthew Parkinson 0-21 from 6 and Nathan Trengrove 0-23 off 4.

The hosts got off to a terrible start losing two wickets without a run on the board in the first over of the innigs, Ian Walling had Daniel Unsworth caught behind by Matthew Crowther for 0 (4 balls), 0-1, next ball Dominic Hendricks followed suit caught behind by Matthew Crowther for 0 (1 ball), 0-2

Jon Stone came in next and with Lee Berrie took the score to 22 when Lee Berrie was caught behind by Matthew Crowther off Waris Khan for 12 (21 balls), 22-3, Jon Stone followed four runs later bowled by Ian Walling for 10 (26 balls), 26-4.,

Nathan Trengrove and Christopher Andrews dug in but with the score on 53 Danny Gilbert took three wickets in four balls, Firstly he bowled Christopher Andrews for 7 (30 balls), 53-5, next ball he bowled Fyffe Dennis for 0 (1 ball), 53-6, two balls later Tony Ambrose was bowled for 0 (2 balls), 53-7.

The hosts innngs went form tragic to disastrous as their last three wickets fell three runs later on 56, Danny Gilbert claimed his fourth victim Nathan Trengrove bowled for 17 (59 balls), 56-8, Gregour Carr cleaned up the tail with two wickets in three balls, Joshua Unsworth bowled for 0 (2 balls), 56-9 and two balls later Neil O'Malley lbw for 0 (2 balls) as Mawdesley were all out for 56 in 25.3 overs with Matthew Parkinson 0no (5 balls).

Danny Gilbert had figures of 4-8 from 5 overs, Ian Walling 3-8 off 8, Gregour Carr 2-11 from 6.3

Netherfield v Euxton

Netherfield won the toss at the Parkside Road ground and invited the visitors to bat first, Max Harper and Ben Houghton opened. Isaac Medhurst made the breakthrough trapping Ben Houghton lbw for 4 (15 balls), 11-1.

James Bone was the new batsman and was tied down until he was bowled by Isaac Medhurst for 4 (25 balls), 22-2. Aneeq Hassan joined Harper but fell caught by Josh Dixon off Samuel Medhurst for 6 (20 balls), 30-3.

Samuel Medhurst brought Max Harper's fighting innings to an end lbw for 12 (48 balls), 33-4. Zane Gilder and Jack Shovelton began the rebuild with Shovelton scoring at a run a ball, the introduction of Oli Wileman changed things he had Shovelton caught by Josh Dixon for 24 (24 balls), 59-5.

Chris Pearson was next in but was soon out bowled by Matt Jackson for 0 (8 balls), 62-6. Joseph Barker was Zane Gilder's new partner and they slowly took the score passed the hundred.

Oli Wileman then took over mopping up the tail, Joseph Barker was the first stumped by Lewis Edge for 16 (45 balls), 108-7, he then took three wickets in five balls, Zane Gilder's battling innings ended caught by Samuel Medhurst for 27 (79 balls), 109-8, next ball Danny Curtis lbw for 0 (1 ball) and finally claiming his fifth wicket Joseph Bowden bowled for 0 (3 balls) as Euxton were bowled out for 109 in 45.5 overs with Loius Sweeney 0no (7 balls).

The Netherfield bowling figures were Oli Wileman 5-19 from 8.5 overs, Isaac Medhurst 2-14 off 11, Samuel Medhurst 2-29 from 9, Matt Jackson 1-15 off 8 and Josh Wills 0-21 from 9.

The Netherfield openers Josh Dixon and Reece Irving found runs hard to come by, Reece Irving went caught by James Bone off Joseph Bowden for 6 (20 balls), 13-1.

The incoming batsman was John Huck, he lost his partner Josh Dixon bowled by Jack Shovelton for 9 (38 balls), 25-2. Ben Barrow replaced Dixon and they steadily moved the score along, James Bone broke the partnership having Ben Barrow caught by Aneeq Hassan for 13 (24 balls), 65-3.

Will Beeden was in next hit two fours but then was bowled by Ben Houghton for 10 (7 balls), 82-4. That was the last success for the visitors as John Huck 59no (70 balls) and Lewis Edge 8no (10 balls) saw the hosts home on 113-4 in 28 overs.

For Euxton Joseph Bowden 1-10 from 6 overs, Jack Shovelton 1-13 off 7, Ben Houghton 1-13 from 3, James Bone 1-38 off 5, Louis Sweeny 0-12 from 4 and Joseph Barker 0-23 off 3.
