The Twenty Fifth round of matches in the Northern Premier League 2024 season saw Fleetwood become the Northern Premier League champions for 2024 with their win against Mawdesley and Netherfield's defeat at Chorley
There were also wins for Fulwood & Broughton, Kendal and Longridge. Bad light stopped play at St Annes giving Blackpool the winning draw.
DIVISION ONE:
Chorley v Netherfield
Chorley won the toss at Windsor Park and invited the visitors to bat first, they got off to a bad start losing four wickets early, Sam Steeple took the first wicket bowling Josh Dixon for 5 (15 balls), 6-1.
Gayan Maneeshan came in at three but was soon out caught behind by Harry Barclay off Will Moulton for 6 (13 balls), 15-2. The new batsman was John Huck who became Will Moulton's second victim caught by Edwin Moulton for 0 (6 balls), 19-3.
Reece Irving replaced Huck but without further additon to the score Ben Barrow was bowled by Sam Steeple for 5 (15 balls), 19-4. Will Beeden joined Irving and they set about rebuilding the innings. Joseph Tiffin was introduced into the attack and had an immediate effect having Will Beeden lbw for 4 (30 balls), 35-5.
Lewis Edge was next in and continued the fight. Joseph Tiffin claimed his sceond wicket bowling Reece Irving for 20 (65 balls), 50-6. Isaac Medhurst was Lewis Edge's new partner but when Sam Steeple was brought back into the attack he was bowled off the last ball of his first over for 2 (13 balls), 60-7.
Samuel Medhurst came to the wicket and dug in but lost Lewis Edge caught by Edwin Moulton off Sam Steeple for 21 (45 balls), 77-8. Sam Steeple then wrapped up the Netherfield tail with his fifth and sixth wickets, number five was Samuel Medhurst caught behind by Harry Barclay for 5 (33 balls), 79-9, next ball Matt Jackson was bowled for 0 (1 ball) as Netherfield were 79 all out in 40.3 overs. Josh Wills was 1no (8 balls).
The Chorley hero was Sam Steeple taking 6-29 from 14.3 overs supported by Joseph Tiffin 2-18 off 11 and Will Moulton 2-25 from 15.
Netherfield were not going to give in easily and they took the fight to the hosts, The Chorley innings mirrored that of the visitors losing four early wickets.
Josh Wills made the early breakthrough with two wickets in three balls, Jack Edgar was bowled for 5 (15 balls), 8-1, two balls later new batsman Harry Barcley was bowled for 0 (2 balls), 8-2.
Will Moulton joined Miller Childs, Josh Wills claimed his third wicket bowling Miller Childs for 2 (18 balls), 11-3. things did not improve for the hosts losing two wickets without addition, Josh Wills struck again bowling Zayn Wadiwala for 6 (11 balls), 23-4, Will Moulton followed caught by John Huck off Isaac Medhurst for 8 (18 balls), 23-5.
Chorley were in trouble and the two new batsmen Edwin Moulton and Kieran Yould had the task of turning the game around, They were making progress until Matt Jackson had Kieran Yould caught by John Huck for 13 (22 balls), 42-6.
Joseph Tiffin replaced Yould and with Edwin Moulton took the hosts in sight of victory when Joseph Tiffin was out caught by Gayan Maneeshan off Reece Irving for 17 (27 balls), 75-7.
Ben Simpkins was in next and off his second ball hit the winning runs as Chorley closed on 80-7 in 28.5 overs with Edwin Moulton 11no (59 balls) and Ben Simpkins 4no (2 balls).
The Netherfield bowling was Josh Wills 4-20 from 7.5 overs, Matt Jackson 1-2 off 4, Reece Irvong 1-4 from 1, Issac Medhurst 1-28 off 10, Gyan Maneeshan 0-3 from 2 and Samuel Medhurst 0-13 off 4.
This result ended the Netherfield challenge for the championship.
Euxton v Kendal
Euxton won the toss at Balshaw Park and put the visitors into bat, The Kendal openers Freddie Fallows and Evan Williams gave them a great start until James Bone struck with three wickets.
Bone's first wicket was Freddie Fallows caught by Jack Shovelton for 41 (30 balls), 79-1, number three Finlay Richardson followed two balls later caught and bowled for 0 (2 balls), 79-2. Bone then had Max Winskill lbw for 0 (11 balls), 83-3.
Sam Dutton joined Evan Williams and they took the score past the hundred only for Evan Williams to fall in the same way his opening partner was caught Jack Shovelton off James Bone for 52 (68 balls), 108-4.
Bradley Earl was the new batsman but he did not last long caught by James Bone off Joseph Barker for 5 (7 balls), 113-5. Lewis Richardson joined Dutton and they reached the one fifty mark when both were out, Joseph Barker bowled Sam Dutton for 38 (44 balls), 152-6, five runs later Lewis Richardson became another Joseph Barker victim caught by Louis Sweeney for 10 (31 balls), 157-7.
The two new batsmen were Sam Sharp and Chris Miller. it was once again Joseph Barker who broke the partnership having Sam Sharp caught by Aneeq Hassan for 12 (37 balls), 186-8.
Louis Backhouse replaced Sharp and with Miller they passed the two hundred, Louis Backhouse was out stumped by Danny Curtis off Ben Houghton for 18 (12 balls), 212-9. Joseph Barker claimed his fifth wicket Kuldeep Singh caught by Louis Sweeney for 2 (5 balls) as Kendal were all out for 219 in 47.5 overs, Chris Miller was unbeaten on 30no (42 balls).
Joseph Barker took 5-46 from 13.5 overs with James Bone 4-45 off 15, Ben Houghton 1-36 from 7, Joseph Bowden 0-14 off 2, Jack Shovelton 0-18 from 2, Aneeq Hassan 0-24 off 2, Louis Sweeney 0-27 from 6.
In reply the Exuton openers were very respectful of the Kendal opening attack, Louis Backhouse made the breakthrough having Zane Nirodi caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 17 (31 balls), 29-1.
In at three was Jack Morgan, the introduction of Chris Miller proved his downfall caught by Sam Sharp off Miller for 8 (23 balls), 45-2, Miller then struck again having new batsman James Bone caught and bowled for 0 (6 balls), 49-3.
Ben Houghton joined Aneeq Hassan and they were going well until there was a middle order collapse, Freddie Fallows took two wickets in two balls, Aneeq Hassan out lbw for 55 (115 balls), 123-4, next ball Jack Shovelton bowled for 0 (1 ball), 123-5, Ben Houghton was next man out bowled by Louis Backhouse for 39 (52 balls), 129-6.
Will Joy came to the wicket but fell bowled by Freddie Fallows for 0 (2 balls), 129-7. Two runs later and Backhouse bowled Joseph Barker for 0 (2 balls), 131-8.
Danny Curtis and Louis Sweeney were keeping the scorebaord ticking over until Freddie Fallows cleaned up the tail, He had Danny Curtis caught by Bradley Earl for for 23 (27 balls), 162-9 then he claimed his fifth victim Joseph Bowden caught by Lewis Richardson for 0 (8 balls) as Euxton were 166 all out in 50.1 overs. Louis Sweeney was 14no (34 balls).
The Kendal bowling was Freddie Fallows 5-45 from 14.1 overs, Louis Backhouse 3-40 off 12, Chris Miller 2-30 from 11, Evan Williams 0-6 off 2, Kuldeep Singh 0-27 from 4 and Sam Sharp 0-18 off 7.
Fleetwood v Mawdesley
Fleetwood won the toss at Broadwater and chose to bat first but lost Tomas King early lbw to Joshua Adamson for 0 (2 balls), 5-1, In at three was Harry McAleer who lead the way but lost his partner Andy Drake bowled by Joshua Unsworth for 8 (13 balls), 33-2.
Dan Salpietro joined McAleer and were going steadily along until Harry McAleer was out lbw to Joshua Unsworth for 33 (54 balls), 53-3. Declan Clerkin was the new batsman and they took the score past the hundred, It was Neil O'Malley who made the breakthrough bowling Declan Clerkin for 19 (27 balls), 104-4.
Jeremy Davies replaced Clerkin and continued to support Salpietro. their partnership was 71 when Dan Salpietro was bowled by Daniel Unsworth for 77 (110 balls), 175-5.
Adam Sharrocks was the new man in and he continued keeping the run rate going, Daniel Unsworth bowled Jeremy Davies for 35 (60 balls), 190-6. Nathan Bend came in and with Sharrocks took Fleetwood to 238-6 in their 50 overs, Adam Sharrocks was 20no (18 balls) and Nathan Bend 20no (16 balls).
For Mawdesley Joshua Unsworth took 2-33 from 10 overs, Daniel Unsworth 2-60 off 15, Joshua Adamson 1-57 from 12 and Neil O'Malley 1-65 off 13.
The visitors reply was similar to that of the hosts, Declan Clerkin had Daniel Unsworth caught by Charlie Clark for 4 (9 balls), 8-1. Lee Berrie came in at three but one run later he was lbw to Dan Salpietro for 0 (5 balls), 9-2.
Nathan Trengove was in next but lost Joshua Unsworth caught and bowled by Dan Salpietro for 11 (13 balls), 18-3, Edward Hurst joined Trengove and they were scoring well when Dan Salpietro struck with three wickets in one over, Edward Hurst was first to go caught by Tomas King for 12 (18 balls), 40-4, two balls later Ben Munslow was bowled for 0 (2 balls), 40-5, and two balls after that he calimed his fifth wicket Christopher Andrews bowled for 0 (2 balls), 40-6.
Joshua Adamson replaced Andrews and with Trengove were making steady progress, Matthew Siddal made the breakthrough bowling Joshua Adamson for 9 (14 balls), 69-7.
The writing was on the wall when two wickets fell without a run being scored, Dan Salpietro bowed Will Caunce for 0 (5 balls), 70-8, Nathan Trengove's fighting innings came to an end bowled by Matthew Siddall for 33 (39 balls), 70-9.
Neil O'Malley came in and had a little flourlish but fell lbw to Matthew Siddall for 10 (7 balls) as Mawdesley were bowled out for 80 in 20.3 overs. Charlie Hailwood was 0no (7 balls).
The Fleetwood hero was Dan Salpietro with 6-37 from 10 overs supported by Matthew Siddall 3-23 off 5.3 and Declan Clerkin 1-19 from 5.
This win made Fleetwood Northern Premier League Champions for 2024.
Fulwood & Broughton v Leyland
Leyland won the toss at the Highfield ground and asked the hosts to bat first, They had early success Kurtis Watson bowling Ewen Mansford for 9 (18 balls), 12-1. Brendan Morris was the new batsman but lost opener Lewis Wellings bowled by Ross Bretherton for 4 (31 balls), 26-2.
Ben Rosbottom joined Morris and they slowly buiilt up the score until Ross Bretherton claimed his second wicket Ben Rosbottom caught behind by Adam Sexton for 7 (40 balls), 54-3. Anupam Tripathi was Morris's new partner and were going well with a partnership of 72 broken by Luke Hands having Brendan Morris caught behind by Adam Sexton for 58 (107 balls), 126-4.
James McWilliam replaced Morris but soon became wicket number two for Luke Hands caught behind by Adam Sexton for 2 (5 balls), 130-5. Jon Fenton was next in and lost his partner Anupam Tripathi caught and bowled by Luke Hands for 48 (75 balls), 156-6.
That was the last success for the visitors as Fulwood & Broughton closed on 176-6 in their 50 overs with Jon Fenton 21no (20 balls) and Khalil Patel 11no (9 balls).
The Leyland bowling was Luke Hands 3-25 from 5 overs, Ross Bretherton 2-17 off 15, Kurtis Watson 1-41 from 11, Iain Critchley 0-17 off 4 and Andrew Jacques 0-65 from 15.
The Leyland reply got off to a bad start losing James Critchley run out by James McWilliam for 0 (6 balls), 4-1, two runs later fellow opener Karl Cross was caught and bowled by Jon Fenton for 5 (24 balls), 6-2.
The two new batsmen were Luke Hands and Ross Bretherton, Khalil Patel imposed further misery on the visitors having Kurtis Watson caught and bowled for 1 (13 balls), 15-3. Ross Bretherton joined Hands and they began to move the score along. Chris Brookes was brought into the attack and took two wickets,with his first ball he had Ross Bretherton caught behind by James McWilliam for 22 (29 balls), 57-4. Four balls later new batsman Andrew Makinson was caught by Lewis Wellings for 0 (4 balls), 57-5.
Jacob Wright replaced Makinson but was soon out caught behind by James McWilliam off Ewen Mansford for 3 (15 balls), 68-7, James Rounding was next in but became Chris Brookes's next victim caught behind by James McWilliam for 1 (4 balls), 75-7.
Iain Critchley was Luke Hands new partner and they began the fight to save the game, they did so well that with only three overs to go they needed only eight runs to win when Jon Fenton took two wickets, firstly the vital wicket of Luke Hands caught by Lewis Wellings for 82 (116 balls), 168-8, two balls later he had Andrew Jacques lbw for 0 (2 blls), 168-9.
In the last over of the game Jon Fenton trapped Adam Sexton lbw for 1 (5 balls) as Leyland were bowled out for 170 in 49.2 overs with Iain Critchley 41no (78 balls).
Jon Fenton took 4-22 from 14.2 overs, Chris Brookes 3-16 off 8, Ewen Mansford 1-37 from 10 and Khalil Patel 0-62 off 15.
Garstang v Longridge
Longridge won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and elected to bat. Charlie Parkinson saw that they got off to a terrible start taking two wickets in three balls, he had Joshua Mullin caught by Tom Higson for 0 (8 balls), 5-1, two balls later number three Luke Platt was caught behind by Matthew Crowther for 0 (2 balls), 5-2.
Taariq Chiecktey was joined by Zac Christie and they were going along nicely, Ernie Collinson was introduced into the attack and in his second over had Taariq Chiecktey caught by Michael Wellings for 42 (53 balls), 67-3.
Rob Hollinghurst was the new batsman and with Christie were making good progress. Joe Barlow made the breakthrough removing both batsmen, Rob Hollinghurst was the first to go caught by Joseph Pearson for 30 (31 balls), 112-4, Zac Christie soon followed lbw for 41 (60 balls), 115-6.
Ernie Collinson then accounted for new batsman Alex Mason lbw for 0 (5 balls), 116-6. Tom Howarth joined Zach Proctor but with only fourteen runs added Zach Proctor was bowled by Charlie Pearson for 9 (26 balls), 130-7.
Jacob Protor was next in but soon became wicket number three for Ernie Collinson caught by Michael Walling for 2 (18 balls), 141-8. Jonathan Millward replaced Proctor and with Howarth kept the scorebaord ticking over until Tom Howarth was out caught by Joseph Pearson off Ian Walling for 28 (57 balls), 171-9.
Jake Durnell was Jonathan Millward's new partner and they saw the visitors close on 189-9 in their fifty overs with Jonathan Milward 17no (26 balls) and Jake Durnell 14no (15 balls).
The wickets were spread amongst the Garstang bowlers, Charlie Parkinson took 3-42 from 14 overs, Ernie Collinson 3-45 off 15, Joe Barlow 2-26 from 4, Ian Walling 1-57 off 11 and Tom Higson 0-14 from 4.
In reply the Garstang openers Tom Higson and Michael Walling got them off to a good start which was followed by a mini collapse, Tom Higson was the first to go caught by Rob Hollinghurst off Alex Mason for 26 (35 balls), 50-1, new batsman Matthew Crowther soon followed caught by Zac Christie off Jonathan Millward for 1 (14 balls), 55-2. three runs later incoming batsman Joseph Pearson was caught by Tom Howarth off Alex Mason for 2 (6 balls), 58-3.
Mark Walling joined Michael Walling and they batted carefully until Jake Durnell was brought into the attack and had Michael Walling caught behind by Taariq Chiecktey for 27 (69 balls), 76-4.
The hosts then had another mini collapse losing three wickets for two runs, Ashton Charles was out caught behind by Taariq Chiecktey off Jake Durnell for 6 (9 balls), 83-5, one run later new batsman Charlie Parkinson was caught by Jacob Proctor off Alex Mason for 1 (5 balls), 84-6, Jake Durnell took his third wicket Michael Wellings caught behind by Taariq Chiecktey for 1 (10 balls), 85-7.
Ian Walling joined Mark Walling but soon lost his partner stumped by Taariq Chiecktey off Jake Durnell for 12 (37 balls), 97-8. Ernie Collinson replaced Walling and with his partner were going well until Jake Durnell claimed his fifth wicket Ian Walling lbw for 30 (32 balls), 138-9.
The Garstang innings came to a close on 139 all out in 42.3 overs when last man in Joe Barlow was caught by Taariq Chiecktey off Zach Proctor for 0 (4 balls) leaving Ernie Collinson 18 no (38 balls).
Jake Durnall took 5-28 from 12 overs, Alex Mason 3-47 off 14, Zach Protor 1-5 from 2.3, Jonathan Millward 1-7 off 6, Tom Howarth 0-8 from 3 and Jacob Proctor 0-31 off 5.
The Longridge wicketkeeper Taariq Chiecktey claimed five victims four caught and one stumped.
St Annes v Blackpool
Blackpool won the toss at Vernon Road and got off to an exposive start losing their first wicket on 96-1 in the fourteenth over, Daniel Dixon was bowled by Tom Bradley for 17 (52 balls).
Andrew Needham joined Dylan Henshall but with only five runs added they were both out to Tom Bradley, Dylan Henshall was first to go caught behind by James Bradley for 79 (53 balls)(14x4 1x6), 101-2, one run later Andrew Needham was caught by Yohan De Silva for 3 (14 balls), 102-3.
The two new batsmen were Hareen Buddila and Stan Howarth, before they could get set Harenn Buddila was run out by Ryan Birkman for 6 (13 balls), 112-4, next in was Rishit Sharma who fell bowled by Lukman Vahaluwala for 1 (6 balls), 115-5.
Stan Howarth had a new partner in Harry Birkman but with only two runs added Tom Bradley bowled Stan Howarth for 8 (15 balls), 117-6. Ben Howarth was the next batsman but was soon out bowled by Lukman Vahaluwala for 7 (10 balls), 130-7.
Matthew Grindley came to the wicket with the Blackpool innings in trouble but with Harry Birkman took the score past the two hundred, they both were out on the same score, Matthew Grindley bowled by Lukman Vahaluwala for 21 (56 balls) 207-8. Harry Birkman bowled by Mitch Bolus for 60 (78 balls), 207-9.
The Blackpool innings closed on 218 all out with Jamie Thomson caught by Luke Jardine off Lukman Vahaluwala for 6 (6 balls) leaving Joe Waterhouse 4no (4 balls).
Lukman Vahaluwala took 4-52 from 12.5 overs with Tom Bradley 4-57 off 15, Mitch Bolus 1-51 from 9, Joe Hayton 0-20 off 3 and James Sargeant 0-36 from 10.
The St Annes reply got off to a good start the first wicket falling at 29 when Yohan De Silva was bowled by Harry Birkman for 27 (25 balls). Joe Davies joined Lukman Vahaluwala and they took the score past the fifty, Harry Birkman claimed his second wicket Joe Davies caught behind by Ben Howarth for 5 (16 balls). 55-2.
Nathan Bolus joined Vahaluwala but soon lost Vahaluwla caught by Harry Birkman off Matthew Grindley for 19 (38 balls), 67-3. Luke Jardine was in next and with Bolus were going well until Luke Jardine was caught behind by Ben Howarth off Harry Birkman for 30 (70 balls), 147-4.
Tom Bradley replaced Jardine but with St Annes on 153-4 in 38 overs Bad Light stopped play and did not resume. Nathan Bolus was 48no (80 balls) and Tom Bradley 5no (3 balls).
For Blackpool Harry Birkman took 3-35 from 10 overs, Matthew Grindley 1-43 off 9, Joe Water house 0-11 from 2, Hareen Buddila 0-21 off 10 and Jamie Thomson 0-29 from 7.
