The Twenty Third round of matches in the Northern Premier League 2024 season saw saw Fleetwood lose to Longridge and Settle end the title hopes of Leyland with a win at the Stanning Memorial ground.
Netherfield's win over Garstang means they are now the only side to challenge Fleetwood. Blackpool beat Euxton, Chorley defeated Mawdesley and Kendal won against Fulwood & Broughton.
DIVISION ONE:
Blackpool v Euxton
Euxton won the toss at Stanley Park and chose to bat first. The got off to a disastrous start losing both openers without a run on the board, Aneeq Hassan was the first to go caught by Andrew Needham off Jamie Thomson for 0 (6 balls), 0-1, next over Zane Nirodi was caught by Tom Myerscough off Matthew Grindley for 0, 0-2
Max Harper and James Bone were the two new batsmen to try and rebuild the innings, Matthew Grindley claimed his second wicket Max Harper caught by Andrew Needham for 5 (30 balls), 19-3.
Ben Houghton joined Bone and they steadily kept the scoreboard ticking over, Josh Boyne made the breakthrough having Ben Houghton caught by Daniel Dixon for 15 (39 balls). 55-4.
Jack Shovelton replaced Houghton and carried on the fight, Disaster struck for the visitors with both batsmen out in quick succession, Jack Shovelton was caught and bowled by Geeth Kumara for 23 (27 balls), 90-5, two runs later James Bone's fighting inninings came to an end out lbw to Josh Boyne for 44 (129 balls), 92-6.
The incoming batsmen were Joseph Barker and Jack Morgan, Geeth Kumara removed Jack Morgan lbw for 2 (9 balls), 107-7. Jamie Thomson took two wickets with the last two balls of the innings, Louis Sweeney was stumped by Ben Howarth for 5 (11 balls) 122-9, next ball Danny Curtis was out lbw for 0 (1 ball) as the Euxton innings closed on 122-9 in their 50 overs with Joseph Barker 23no (41 balls).
All the Blackpool bowlers took a wicket lead by Jamie Thomson 3-22 from 10.1 overs, with Matthew Grindley 2-18 off 15, Geeth Kumara 2-34 from 10, and Josh Boyne 2-46 off 15.
The Blackpool reply followed that of the visitors losing two quick wickets, Dylan Henshall was bowled by Joseph Bowden for 0 (2 balls), 1-1. Andrew Needham followed lbw to Jack Shovelton for 1 (5 balls), 2-2.
Geeth Kumara joined Daniel Dixon and with Kumara leading the way moved on to 50 when Daniel Dixon was out caught and bowled by Jack Shovelton for 8 (31 balls), 50-3.
Josh Boyne replaced Dixon and was scoring at a run a ball until he was caught behind by Danny Curtis off Joseph Barker for 20 (22 balls), 87-4. Stan Howarth was in next and with Kumara took the score within sight of victory when he was bowled by Joseph Barker for 12 (14 balls), 111-5
Tom Myerscough was the new man in and with Kumara scoring freely saw Blackpool reach their target 0f 123-5 in 24.1 overs with Geeth Kumara 75no (13x4, 1x6) and Tom Myerscough 2no (6 balls).
For Euxton Joseph Barker took 2-21 from 3.1 overs, Jack Shovelton 2-40 off 8, Joseph Bowden 1-22 from 5, Louis Sweeney 0-14 off 4 and James Bone 0-22 from 4.
Chorley v Mawdesley
Chorley won the toss at Windsor Park and elected to bat first, they lost an early wicket Will Moulton bowled by Joshua Adamson for 7 (23 balls), 11-1.
Harry Barclay came in at three and with Miller Childs put the hosts in a good position, both were out on the same score, Joshua Adamson broke the partnership of 116 by bowling Harry Barclay for 58, 127-3. Miller Childs went in the next over caught behind by Fyffe Dennis off Daniel Unsworth for 50 (90 balls), 127-4.
Ockert Erasmus and Zayn Wadiwala were the new batsmen, Joshua Adamson claimed his third wicket Ockert Erasmus caught behind by Fyffe Dennis for 3 (12 balls), 135-4. Ben Simpkins was next in but soon fell another Adamson victim caught by Daniel Unsworth for 8 (12 balls), 149-5.
Joseph Tiffin joined Wadiwala, Zayne Wadiwala was next out caught by Joshua Unsworth off Daniel Unsworth for 6 (24 balls). 158-6. That was the last success for the visitors as Joseph Tiffin 25no (33 balls) and Kieran Yould 10 no (15 balls) saw Chorley close on 204-6 in their 50 overs.
Joseph Adamson took 4-30 from 15 overs, Daniel Unsworth 2-67 off 15, Christopher Andrews 0-23 from 5, Dominic Hendricks 0-25 off 3, and Joshua Unsworth 0-39 from 12.
The visitors opening pair of Fyffe Dennis and Nathan Trengove got them off to a good start, they both were out on the same score. Miller Childs made the breakthrough bowling Nathan Trengove for 14 (33 balls), 42-1, Fyffe Dennis followed bowled by Ockert Erasmus for 26 (42 balls), 42-2.
Christopher Andrews and Dominic Hendricks were the two new batsmen and they were making progress when Ockert Erasmus took three wickets, Christopher Andrews was his first wicket caught by Will Moulton for 4 (19 balls), 59-3, three balls later he bowled Daniel Unsworth for 0 (3 balls), 59-4, one run later he bowled Dominic Hendricks for 13 (36 balls), 60-5.
The incoming batsmen were Ben Munslow and Edward Hurst, Sam Steeple was brought back into the attack and took all the last five wickets, Ben Munslow was lbw for 4 (23 balls), 76-6, one run later he bowled Edward Hurst for 12 (25 balls), 77-7. Sam Ireland was next lbw for 0 81-8.
He closed the Mawdesley innings on 83 all out in 34.4 overs by taking two wickets in two balls, Charlie Hailwood was stumped by Harry Barclay for 0 (2 balls), 83-9. next ball he bowled Joshua Adamson for 0 (1 ball) to close the innings. Joshua Unsworth was 6no (16 balls).
Sam Steeple's figures were 5-24 from 10.4 overs with Ockert Erasmus 4-27 off 12, Miller Childs 1-10 from 7 and Will Moulton 0-20 off 5.
Fulwood & Broughton v Kendal
Kendal won the toss at the Highfield ground and decided to bat first, the opening pair got off to a brisk start, Jon Fenton broke the partnership having Freddie Fallows caught by Muhammad Zaid for 26 (19 balls), 32-1.
Finlay Richardson was the Kendal number three, only one run had been added when he was out caught by Lewis Wellings off Chris Brookes for 1 (8 balls), 33-2,
Max Winskill was the new batsman and witnessed a collapse at the other end with the loss of three wickets for no runs. Jon Fenton claimed three wickets in one over, Evan Williams was the first to go lbw for 13 (13 balls), 41-3, Next ball new man Bradley Earl was caught by Ewen Mansford for 0 (1 ball), 41-4. Lewis Richardson replaced Earl but lasted only four balls out lbw for 0, 41-5.
Tim Boyd joined Winskill and they set about rebuilding the visitors innings, Boyd was leading the way but lost Max Winskill lbw to Chris Brookes for 9 (31 balls), 73-6.
Sam Sharp joined Boyd and their partnership was 104 broken by Muhammad Zaid having Tim Boyd caught by Chris Brookes for 87 (88 balls)(11x4, 4x6), 177-7.
The last two wickets fell to Jon Fenton who claimed his fifth and sixth wickets Sam Sharp the first lbw for 42 (74 balls), 188-8. next was Chris Miller caught by Ewen Mansford for 7 (39 balls)as Kendal closed on 197 in 48 overs with Kuldeep Singh 5no (11 balls).
Jon Fenton took 6-35 from 14 overs, Chris Brookes 2-53 off 9, Muhammad Zaid 1-24 from 6, Brendan Morris 0-20 off 8, Lewis Wellings 0-23 from 6 and Ewen Mansford 0-35 off 5.
In reply the hosts lost Ewen Mansford bowled by Freddie Fallows for 4 (10 balls), 15-1. Number three was Brendan Morris and with Matt Smith were keeping the scoreboard ticking over until Sam Sharp bowled Matt Smith for 27 (41 balls), 39-2.
Anupam Tripathi was the new batsman but was out stumped by Finlay Richardson off Chris Miller for 4 (25 balls), 57-3. James McWilliam joined Morris and they took the score past the hundred, Evan Williams broke their partnership bowling James McWilliam for 20 (53 balls), 114-4.
Jon Fenton came in next but he became wicket number two for Evan Williams lbw for 1, (7 balls), 122-5. Three runs later Williams struck taking the wicket of Brendan Morris caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 57 (81 balls), 125-6.
Muhammad Zaid was joined by Lewis Wellings. It was Williams who once again broke the partnership having Muhammad Zaid lbw for 13 (35 balls), 154-7. Ben Parkinson replaced Zaid and was soon out caught by Lewis Richardson off Freddie Fallows for 1 (6 balls), 159-8.
Max Smith was the new batsman but lost Lewis Wellings bowled by Sam Sharp for 23 (26 balls), 170-9. The hosts innings came to an end on 182 all out in 50.5 overs when Chris Brookes was caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Sam Sharp for 10 (13 balls), Max Smith was 7no (8 balls).
Evan Williams's figures were 4-40 from 11 overs with Sam Sharp 3-41 off 11.5, Freddie Fallows 2-40 from 15 , Chris Miller 1-25 off 8 and Kuldeep Singh 0-23 from 5.
Leyland v Settle
Settle won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and asked the hosts to bat first, Leyland got off to a disastrous start losing Karl Cross off first ball of the innings caught behind by Robbie Davidson off Lloyd Smith for 0 (1 ball), 0-1.
Zak Willox was in at number three but quickly became wicket number two for Lloyd Smith lbw for 4 (5 balls), 4-2. Luke Hands was next in but lost his partner James Critchley caught behind by Robbie Davidson off Tom Davidson for 1 (20 balls), 15-3.
Ross Bretherton joined Hands but was soon out bowled by Lloyd Smith for 0 (8 balls), 21-4. Andrew Makinson replaced Bretherton but unfortunately for the hosts he was run out by William Davidson for 10 (23 balls), 36-5.
Leyland were in trouble with half the side out and only 36 rins on the board, Jacob Wright came to the wicket but became wicket number four for Lloyd Smith out caught by Amar Ullah for 2 (8 balls), 44-6.
James Rounding was the new batsman and with Luke Hands began moving the score along until Ashen Silva bowled Luke Hands for 34 (108 balls), 83-7. Iain Critchley came in at nine but lost James Rounding bowled by Amar Ullah for 28 (58 balls), 85-8. Iain Critchley continued the fight and was out in the last over of the innings stumped by Robbie Davidson off Amar Ullah for 18 (34 balls), 110-9.
Number eleven Andrew Jacques 1no (1 ball) and Adam Sexton 8no (34 balls) saw the hosts close on 111-9 in their 50 overs.
The wickets were spread amongst the Settle bowlers, Lloyd Smith took 4-34 from 15, Amar Ullah 2-30 off 15, Tom Davidson 1-18 from 10, Ashen Silva 1-20 off 20 and William Davidson 0-8 from 3.
The Settle reply got off to a steady start, Ross Bretherton made the breakthrough bowling Lloyd Smith for 23 (30 balls), 30-1. William Davidson joined Archie Phillipson and they took the score approaching the hundred when Zak Willox had William Davidson caught by Jacob Wright for 28 (38 balls), 97-2.
Ashen Silva replaced Davidson and with Phillipson saw the visitors reach their goal on 112-2 in 26.5 overs and gain a very important victory guaranteeing First Division cricket next season. Archie Phillipson was 43no (87 balls) and Ashen Silva 10no (8 balls).
The Leyland bowling was Ross Bretherton 1-23 from 11.5 overs, Zak Willox 1-30 off 5, Luke Hands 0-14 from 2, Iain Critchley 0-15 off 3 and Andrew Jacques 0-24 from 5.
This defeat meant that Leyland were now out of the championship race.
Longridge v Fleetwood
Longridge won the toss at the Newsham Memorial groung and elected to bat first, Fleetwood had an early succes with Will Reader taking two wickets, He had Taariq Chiecktey caught behind by Harry McAleer for 6 (13 balls), 10-1, two runs later he had Luke Platt caught by Jameel Stuart for 0 (9 balls) 12-2.
Zac Christie joined Joshua Mullin and they batted carefully until Joshua Mullin was caught and bowled by Declan Clerkin for 15 (36 balls), 32-3. Rob Hollinghusrt replaced Mullin and was very watchful of the visitors bowling, Their partnership was broken by Jameel Stuart having Rob Hollinghurst caught by Tomas King for 16 (46 balls), 81-4.
Zach Proctor as the new batsman but lost his partner Zac Christie bowled by Jameel Stuart for 54 (87 balls), 99-4. Tom Howarth came in and with Alex Mason were keeping the scoreboard ticking over, Jameel Stuart claimed three quick wickets, Zach Proctor lbw for 18 (45 balls), 136-6.Alex Mason followed caught by Declan Clerkin for 23 (37 balls), 139-7. Jake Durnell was the third caught behind by Harry McAleer for 3 (10 balls).
Gabreil Dowthwaite was stumped by Harry McAleer off Matthew Siddall for 1 (3 balls). The innings closed on 156-9 in their 50 overs with Tom Howarth 11no (16 balls) ans Ian Simpson 0no (did not face a ball).
The Fleetwood bowling was Jameel Stuart 5-37 from 12 overs, Will Reader 2-17 off 6, Declan Clerkin 1-38 from 15, Matthew Siddall 1-44 off 15 and Jeremy Davies 0-13 from 2.
In reply the visitors lost an early wicket Tomas King out lbw to Gabriel Dowthwaite for 4 (13 balls), 11-1, Harry McAleer was in at three and with Andy Drake were approaching 50 when both were out, Jake Durnell was brought into the attack with immediate success with two wickets in his first over, he bowled Andy Drake for 29 (33 balls), 47-2, two balls later Harry McAleer suffered the same fate bowled for 13 (12 balls), 48-3.
Jameel Stuart and Jeremy Davies were the new batsmen and they were making progress when disaster struck as they were both out on the same score. Alex Mason bowled Jeremy Davies for 5 (17 balls), 79-5. Jake Durnell trapped Jameel Stuart lbw for 27 (29 balls), 79-5.
We now had two new batsmen in Adam Sharrocks and Declan Clerkin their progress was quickly stopped when Alex Mason had Declan Clerkin caught by Jake Durnell for 3 (11 balls), 90-6.
Nathan Bend replaced Clerkin but soon became the next victim for Jake Durnell caught behind by Taariq Chiecktey for 6 (5 balls), 97-7. Charlie Clark joined Sharrocks but the chances of a visitors success vanished with the dismissal of Adam Sharrocks caught by Zac Christie off Jake Durnell (his fifth wicket) for 13 (41 balls), 115-8
Will Reader was Charlie Cark's new partner and they were moving slowly towards their target, Disaster struck with Charlie Clark run out by Ian Simpson for 14 (48 balls), 130-9.
Victory came the the hosts with Ian Simpson bowling Matthew Siddall for 1 (3 balls) as Fleetwood were bowled out for 131 in 38.1 overs with Will Reader 5no ( 18 balls).
Jake Durnell took 5-36 from 15 overs, Alex Mason 2-18 off 11, Ian Simpson 1-7 from 2.1, Gabriel Dowthwaite 1-22 off 4 and Tom Howarth 0-39 rom 6.
Netherfield v Garstang
Garstang won the toss in an Eighty Four over game at Parkside Road and invited the hosts to bat first, they got off to a reasonble start losing Ben Barrow lbw to Tom Higson for 16 (42 balls), 26-1.
Imran Rafiq was the Netherfield number three and with Josh Dixon kept the scoreboard ticking over until Josh Dixon fell stumped by Matthew Crowther off Tom Higson for 20 (78 balls), 64-2.
John Huck was in next but lost his partner Imran Rafiq caught by Ian Walling off Ernie Collinson for 15 (47 runs), 79-3. Reece Irving joined John Huck but with only ten runs added he was bowled by Anuk Fernando for 0 (8 balls), 89-4.
Will Beeden replaced Irving and with Huck were making good progress, Anuk Fernando broke the partnership bowling Will Beeden for 12 (11 balls), 123-5.
Lewis Edge was the new batsman and increased the run rate but disaster his partner John Huck was run out by Matthew Crowther for 57 (49 balls), 153-6. In came Oli Wileman with six balls remaining in the innings and was run out by Michael Walling for 1 (1 ball).
The Netherfield innings closed on 168-7 in 42 overs with Lewis Edge 25no (17 balls) and Isaac Medhurst ono (did not face a ball).
Tom Higson took 2-23 from 13 overs, Anuk Febando 2-38 off 8, Ernie Collinson 1-61 from 8, Joe Barlow 0-11 off 5 and Ian Walling 0-16 from 8.
Garstang's reply got off to a bad start losing Michael Walling caught by John Huck off Josh Wills for 1 (8 balls), 2-1. In at three was Anuk Fernando, Josh Wills struck again having Tom Higson caught by Josh Dixon for 23 (27 balls), 25-2.
Matthew Crowther replaced Higson but was soon out caught behind by Lewis Edge off Isaac Medhurst for 4 (8 balls), 34-3. Disaster struck for the visitors with the loss of seven wickets for eleven runs, Imran Rafiq being the main destroyer.
Josh Wills began the collapse by having Anuk Fernando caught by Will Beeden for 8 (19 balls), 40-4, Iran Rafiq then took over, He bowled Joseph Pearson for 2 (12 balls), 43-5, Adam Ball followed caught by Ben Barrow for 0 (7 balls), 43-6.
One run later he had Mark Walling caught behind by Lewis Edge for 5 (19 balls) 44-7. Next in line was Ian Walling bowled for 6 (7 balls), 49-8. Ernie Collinson became his fifth victim caught by Reece Irving for 0 (6 balls), 51-9.
The innings close on 51 all out in 21.3 overs with Ashton Charles out lbw to Oli Wile man for 2 (14 balls) with Joe Barlow 0no (2 balls).
Imran Rafiq's figures were 5-8 from 5 overs, Josh Wills took 3-24 off 7, Oli Wileman 1-2 from 3.3 and Isacc Medhurst 1-17 off 6.
This win keeps the title race open if Fleetwood slip up Netherfield could win the title.
