The Twenty Second round of matches in the Northern Premier League 2024 season saw Blackpool defeat leaders Fleetwood and open the Championship race.
Both Second placed Leyland v Garstang (2 runs) and Third placed Netherfield v Fulwood & Broughton (6 runs) had narrow victories to put pressure on the leaders.
Settle beat Mawdseley to ease their relegation worries slighty but condems Mawdesley to Second Division cricket next season. St Annes will also play Second Division after their ten wicket defeat by Longridge..
The Kendal v Choley match was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
DIVISION ONE:
Fleetwood v Blackpool
Fleetwood won the toss at Broardwater and invited the visitors to bat first, Rishit Sharma and Dylan Henshall opened and laid a good foundation for the innings, Will Reader broke the partnership having Rishit Sharma caught behind by Harry McAleer for 14 (21 balls), 42-1.
Arran Lewin was in at three but was soon out bowled by Declan Clerkin for 1 (11 balls), 45-2. Andrew Needham was the new batsman but quickly became Declan Clerkin's second victim lbw for 0 (6 balls), 53-3.
Josh Boyne joined Henshall and they began to rebuild the innings until both were out in quick succession to Matthew Siddall, Dylan Hensahall was caught behind by Harry McAleer for 50 (66 balls), 97-4, one run later Josh Boyne fell the same way caught behind by Harry McAleer for 27 (48 balls), 98-5.
The two new batsmen were Stan Howarth and Harry Birkman who dug in, Harry Birkman was the first to go caught by Charlie Clark off Jeremy Davies for 2 (20 balls), 109-6. Ben Howarth replaced Birkman but soon lost his partner Stan Howarth to the McAleer/ Siddall combination for 13 (38 balls), 116-7.
Matthew Gindley was next in, the Blackpool tail collapsed losing the last three wickets for one run, Ben Howarth was out caught by Nathan Bend off Declan Clerkin for 14 (30 balls), 138-8, Tomas King then had Matthew Grindley lbw for 8 (33 balls), 138-9.
The Blackpool innings close on 139 all out in 47.4 overs with Ali Munir caught behind by Harry McAleer off Tomas King for 0 (9 balls) with Joe Waterhouse 1no (7 balls).
Wicketkeeper Harry McAleer took five catches for the hosts.
The Fleetwood bowling was Matthew Siddall 3-19 from 15 overs, Declan Clerkin 3-40 off 14, Tomas King 2-6 from 2.4, Will Reader 1-30 off 6 and Jeremy Davies 1-41 from 10.
The opening pair got the inninngs off to a steady start, Harry Birkman made the breakthrough bowling Andy Drake for 4 (14 balls), 28-1, Joseph Davis came in at three but lost his partner Tomas King caught by Joe Waterhouse off Harry Birkman for 30 (32 balls), 35-2.
Harry McAleer joined Davis and they had doubled the score when Joseph Davis was caught by Joe Waterhouse off Josh Boyne for 19 (52 balls), 71-3, the new batsman was Jeremy Davies who was soon out caught by Harry Birkman off Arran Lewis for 7 (11 balls), 80-4.
Adam Sharrocks replaced Davies but disaster for the hosts Harry McAlleer was out bowled by Arran Lewis for 24 (53 balls), 93-5, New man in was Nathan Bend but with only ten runs added Adam Sharrocks was caught behind by Ben Howarth off Josh Boyne for 2 (5 balls), 103-6.
Charlie Clark was next in, Matthew Grindley was brought back into the attack and had Charlie Clark caught by Rishit Sharma for 3 (18 balls), 110-7, Grindley then caught and bowled Nathan Bend for 21 (12 balls), 117-8.
Harry Birkman was reintroduced into the attack and demolished the last two, he bowled Matthew Siddall for 3 (4 balls) 124-9, five balls later he bowled Will Reader for 0 (5 balls) as Fleetwood were 124 all out in 35 overs with Declan Clerkin 4no (5 balls).
The Blackpool bowling figures were Harry Birkman 4-38 from 8, Matthew Grindley 2-24 off 12, Arran Lewin 2-25 from 5, Josh Boyne 2-32 off 10.
Fulwood & Broughton v Netherfield
Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Highfield ground and put the visitors into bat, Josh Dixon and Ben Barrow gave Netherfield a good start with an opening stand of 64 broken when Ben Barrow was lbw to Simon Kerrigan for 37 (46 balls), 64-1.
Reece Irving was the visitors number three and with Dixon continued to make progress, Simon Kerrigan struck once again having Josh Dixon lbw for 23 (61 balls), 89-2, John Huck was in next and took the score past the hundred when he was caught by Lewis Wellings off Jon Fenton for 14 (38 balls), 112-3.
Will Beeden joined Irving but with only two runs added he was run out by Lewis Welings for 1 (5 balls), 114-4, Lewis Edge came to the wicket and was quickly out lbw to Simon Kerrigan for 0 (4 balls), 120-5.
Oli Wileman replaced Edge but lost his partner Reece Irving caught by Ewen Mansford off Jon Fenton for 37 (64 balls), 127-6. Next in was Bert Medhurst and with Oli Wileman moved the score along until the last over when he was out caught behind by James McWilliam off Lewis Wellings for 15 (23 balls), 197-7, Oli Wileman followed four balls later to the McWilliam/Wellings combination as Netherfield closed on 197-8 in their 50 overs.
For Fulwood & Broughton Simon Kerrigan took 3-56 from 15 overs, Jon Fenton 2-25 off 13, Lewis Wellings 2-49 from 9, Ewen Mansford 0-17 off 7 and Narcus Allen 0-38 from 6.
The Fulwood and Broughton openers got off to a good start, Isaac Medhurst struck taking two wickets in the same over, Ewen Mansford caught by Ben Barrow for 13 (34 balls), 39-1, new batsman Brendan Morris was caught behind three balls later by Lewis Edge for 0 (3 balls), 39-2.
Simon Kerrigan joined Matt Smith and they were going well with a stand of 85 broken by Reece Irving having Matt Smith caught by Josh Dixon for 76 (96 balls), 124-3.
Ben Rosbottom replaced Smith but with only six runs added lost Simon Kerrigan caught by Isaac Medhurst off Oli Wileman for 26 (85 balls), 130-4. New man in James McWilliam was out quickly caught by John Huck off Oli Wileman for 1 (6 balls), 132-5.
Ben Rosbottom had a new partner in Muhammad Zaid and they continued to make progress. there were six overs remaining and thirty six runs required when Ben Rosbottom fell bowled by Oli Wileman for 10 (30 balls), 155-6.
Disater struck for the hosts, Jon Fenton came to the wicket took a run off his first ball but on the last ball of the over saw Muhammad Zaid out caught by John Huck off Oli Wileman for 19 (16 balls), 132-7.
Lewis Wellings was next in but lost Jon Fenton to the first ball of the next over caught by Ben Barrow off Reece Irving for 1 (2 balls), 162-8. The hosts were still going for the win, Reece Irving claimed his third wicket Ben Parkinson caught by Samuel Medhurst for 7 (5 balls), 180-9.
There were two overs to go with sixteen runs required for victory, Lewis Wellings hit the first ball for six off Oi Wileman and three runs followed but on the fifth ball Oli Wileman took his fifth wicket and victory by six runs for the visitors having Marcus Allen lbw for 2 (4 balls), Fulwood & Broughton was 191 all out in 48.5 overs with Lewis Wellings 19no (16 balls).
Oli Wileman took 5-46 from 14.5 overs, Reece Irving 3-40 off 8, Isaac Medhurst 2-24 from 11, Josh Wills 0-27 off 7 and Samuel Medhurst 0-39 from 8.
Garstang v Leyland
Leyland won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and elected to bat first, They got off to a steady start, Karl Cross was the first man out caught by Adam Ball off Ian Walling for 14 (17 balls), 22-1.
Zak Willox was in at three, James Critchley was out next lbw to Danny Gilbert for 18 (24 balls), 32-2, Kurtis Watson joined Willox and they had doubled the score when Ernie Collinson was introduced into the attack, in his second over he had Zal Willox caught by Mark Walling for 15 (28 balls), 67-3.
The new man in was Ross Bretherton but with only four runs added he lost Kurtis Watson caught by Mark Walling off Ian Walling for 23 (37 balls), 71-4.
Andrew Makinson replaced Watson, the score was approaching the hundred when four wickets fell for four runs. Ross Bretherton was caught by Michael Wallling off Ernie Collinson for 17 (37 balls), 95-5, without any further addition Andrew Makinson was caught by Danny Gilbert off Joe Barlow for 6 (39 balls), 95-6.
We had two new batsmen in Jacob Wright and James Rounding, once again two wickets fell on the same score, Ernie Collinson took two wickets in three balls, James Rounding caught for 0 (16 balls), 96-7, two balls later Iain Critchley caught by Joe Barlow for 0 (2 balls), 96-8.
Jacob Wright was watching from the other end and saw his next partner Andrew Sexton fall caught by Tom Higson off Joe Barlow for 1(7 balls), 99-9.
The Leyland innings came to a close on 103 all out in 38.5 overs with Joe Barlow bowling Andrew Jacques for 2 (6 balls with Jacob Wright 5no (21 balls)).
Ernie Collinson lead the way with 4-19 from 13 overs, Joe Barlow took 3-6 off 5.5, Ian Walling 2-53 from 14 and Danny Gilbert 1-23 off 6.
In their reply Tom Higson went on the attack scoring fourteen runs off the first over and eight off the the next two balls he faced but was out two balls later caught by Iaian Critchley off Kurtis Watson for 22 (10 balls), 22-1.
Matthew Crowther was next in but lost opener Michael Walling bowled by Kurtis Watson for 4 (17 balls), 34-2. Disaster struck for the hosts losing four wickets for one run, Ross Bretherton took two wickets in three balls, Joseph Pearson was the first to go caught behind by Adam Sexton for 4 (12 balls),40-3. new man Adam Ball fell two balls later caught by James Critchley 0 (2 balls), 40-4.
In the next over Kurtis Watson repeated the feat with two wickets in three balls, Mark Walling was out hit wicket for 0 (1 balls), 41-5. Ashton Charles two balls later was caught by Karl Cross for 0 (2 balls), 41-6.
Matthew Crowther had been watching the collapse and was joined by Ian Walling, twenty runs had been added to the score when for the third time two wickets fell on the same score, Ross Bretherton taking two quick wickets, Matthew Crowther was out lbw to Ross Bretherton for 23 (51 balls), 61-7, incoming batsman Danny Gilbert was caught behind by Adam Sexton for 0 (4 balls), 61-8.
The visitors were in a strong positon when Ernie Collinson joined Ian Walling, Attack was the only way forward with Ian Walling leading the way, unfortunately with nine runs required Ross Bretherton claimed his fifth wicket Ernie Collinson bowled for 0 (8 balls), 95-9.
Joe Barlow was last man in. The hosts innings came to an end on 101 all out in 24.2 overs with Ian Walling's valiant innings coming to an end bowled by Kurtis Watson for 40 (43 balls) giving Watson his fifth wicket leaving Joe Barlow 1no (2 balls).
The victory by two runs opens the door in the championship race with leaders Fleetwood losing against Blackpool.
Ross Bretherton took 5-16 from 12 overs and Kurtis Watson 5-70 off 11.2 were the Leyland heros with Andrew Jacques 0-14 off 1.

Settle won the toss at Marshfield and put the visitors into bat in a 92 over game, Daniel Unsworth was the first wicket to fall lbw to Eddy Read for 13 (22 balls), 21-1
Christopher Andrews was the new batsman, runs were hard to come by, the score was approaching ffifty when Amar Ullah trapped Fyffe Dennis lbw for 23 (55 balls), 47-2.
Dominic Hendricks joined Andrews but soon lost him bowled by Ashen Silva for 8 (50 balls), 53-3, Lee Berrie replaced Andrews and they began to make progess until Amar Ullah claimed his second wicket Lee Berrie caught behind by Robbie Davidson for 20 (30 balls), 84-4.
Ben Munslow was the new batsman but was soon out bowled by Ashen Silva for 2 (7 balls), 93-5. Edward Hurst was Dominic Hendricks's new partner and they were going well until the visitors had a complete collapse losing the last four wickets without a run being scored.
William Davidson was the man that did the damage taking three wickets in one over, Dominic Hendricks was the first caught by John Davidson for 38 (69 balls), 127-6, two balls later new batsman Will Hurst was caught by Benjamin Hulse for 0 (2 balls), 127-8, next ball Joshua Unsworth was bowled for 0. (1 ball), 127-9.
The Mawdesley innings closed on 130-9 in their 46 overs with Noah Taylor-Hughes 1no (3 balls) and Neil O'Malley 1no (3 balls).
The wickets were spread amongst the Settle bowlers, William Davidson 3-2 off 1 over, Ashen Silva 2-30 off 14, Amar Ullah 2-51 from 14, Eddy Read 1-12 from 7, Tom Davidson 1-4 from 3 and Lloyd Smith 0-26 off 7.
The hosts got off to a terrible start losing two wickets for no runs in the first over by Joshua Unsworth, He bowled Lloyd Smith third ball for 0 (3 balls), 0-1, next ball he bowled Amar Ullah for 0 (1 ball), 0-2.
Archie Phillipson was joined by Ashen Silva and they steadily built up the score, the partnership was broken by Lee Berrie having Archie Phillipson caught by Neil O'Malley for 26 (78 balls), 88-3.
Ben Hulse was the new batsman and struggled for runs until he was out lbw for 5 (27 balls), 115-4. That was the last success for the visitors as Ashen Silva 77no (126 balls) and John Davidson 11no (18 balls) saw the hosts home on 134-4 in 42.1 overs.
The Mawdesley bowling was Joshua Unsworth 2-23 from 10 overs, Neil O'Malley 1-28 off 9, Lee Berrie 1-32 from 7.1, Dominic Hendricks 0-19 off 9 and Daniel Unsworth 0-20 rom 7
This result means a positive result against Euxton will guarantee 1st Division cricket next season, for Mawdesley however 2nd Division cricket for them.
St Annes v Longridge
St Annes won the toss at Vernon Road and chose to bat first, The opening pair of Yohan De Silva and Christopher Wilson gave them a good start until Jake Durnell took two wickets in two balls. He bowled Christopher Wilson for 17 (36 balls), 48-1, Lukman Vahaluwala came in next and was out first ball bowled for 0 (1 ball), 48-2.
Nathan Bolus came in next but lost Yohan De Silva lbw to Tom Howarth for 31 (47 balls), 52-3, Luke Jardine joined Bolus but was soon out bowled by Jake Durnell for 1 (8 balls), 59-4.
Tom Bradley replaced Jardine but lost his partner Nathan Bolus caught by Luke Platt off Alex Mason for 6 (9 balls), 60-5. Joe Davies was the new batsman and with Tom Bradley they began rebuilding the innings.
They had taken the score past the hundred when Jake Durnell had Tom Bradley caught by Taariq Chiechtey for 26 (47 balls), 109-6. Jake Durnell claimed his fifth wicket new batsman James Bradley caught by Tom Howarth 2 (16 balls) 111-7.
Joe Hayton was next in, Joe Davies had been holding the innings together but he now was out bowled by Jake Durnell for 32 (57 balls), 122-8. Joe Hayton had a new partner in Ryan Birkman, their partnership was 22 whan Ryan Birkman was caught by Rob Hollinghurst off Tom Howarth for 11 (30 balls), 144-9.
The last wicket partnership of Joe Hayton and Mitch Bolus put on twenty two when Joe Hayton was caught by Zac Christie off Ian Simpson for 18 (32 balls) leaving Mitch Bolus 17no (14 balls) as St Annes were bowled out for 166 in 49.4 overs.
Jake Durnell had figures of 6-52 from 15 overs with Tom Howarth 2-44 off 13, Ian Simpson 1-13 from 1.3, Alex Mason 1-26 off 15 and Gabriel Dowthwaite 0-26 from 5.
In reply Longridge knocked off the runs in 37.2 overs without loss, Taariq Chiecktey leading the way with 102no (10 x4, 3x6) supported by Joshua Mullin 54n0 (131 balls).
For St Annes Mitch Bolus had 0-21 from 6 overs, Lukman Vahaluwala 0-23 off 6, Joe Hayton 0-27 from 12, Joe Davies 0-41 off 3 and Yohan De Silva 0-47 from 10.2.
This result means St Annes will play in the Second Division next season.
