The second round of matches in Northern Premier League 2024 season saw the weather once again see two games abandoned and one rain effected.
Fleetwood won their second game and go top, newcomers Settle defeated St Annes and Leyland and Netherfield also won
The games at Chorley and Euxton were the ones abandoned

Fulwood & Broughton v Fleetwood
Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Highfield ground and put the visitors into bat, Tomas King and Andy Drake were the Fleetwood openers separated on the second ball of the innings with Tomas King caught by Lewis Wellings off Jon Fenton for 0 (2 balls), 0-1
Vathsal Govind came to the wicket and was soon out bowled by Chris Brookes for 4 (15 balls), 9-2. Next in was Charlie Clark who did not fare any better falling to Chris Brookes caught by Ben Parkinson for 1 (11 balls), 17-3.
The visitors innings went from bad to worse with few runs scored but wickets falling. Andy Drake was next out caught by James Lupton off Jon Fenton for 12 (63 balls), 19-4, Jeremy Davies had replaced Charlie Clark and saw his new partner Declan Clerkin become Jon Fenton's third wicket caught by Matthew Smith for 0 (2 balls), 21-5
Harry McAleer was Davies's next partner and like the others he went quickly caught by Ben Parkinson off Chris Brookes for 4 (6 balls), 26-6. Chris Brookes claimed his fourth victim Nathan Bend caught by Matthew Smith for 4 (6 balls), 32-7.
One run had been added when Jon Fenton trapped Kian Farnworth lbw for 0 (6 balls), 33-8. The visitors were staring defeat in the face, number ten was Matthew Siddall and with Jeremy Davies they slowly and steadily built up the score. Their partnership was 71 broken by Muhammad Zaid having Jeremy Davies caught by James Lupton for 48 (74 balls), 104-9
Last man James Armor was run out for 2 (2 balls) as Fleetwood were all out for 107 in 39 overs with Matthew Siddall undefeated on 27 (49 balls).
The hosts opening pair did the damage with Jon Fenton 4-19 from 13 overs, Chris Brookes 4-19 off 13 supported by Muhammad Zaid 1-20 from 6, Dom Jackson 0-19 off 3 and Lewis Wellings 0-27 from 4.
Fulwood & Broughton got off to the same start as the visitors losing Matthew Smith caught behind by Harry McAleer off Declan Clerkin for 0 (3 balls) without a run on the board. Brendan Morris was number three and had made 5 (23 balls) when he was caught by Vithsal Govind off Matthew Siddall, 17-2.
The innings was following the path of the early visitors innings a few runs then the loss of a wicket. Matthew Siddall soon accounted for new batsman Ben Parkinson lbw for 0 (3 balls), 25-3. James McWilliam replaced Parkinson but fell caught behind by Harry McAleer off Vithsal Govind for 1 (12 balls), 39-4
Opening batsman Jon Fenton had been battling away but he was next out caught and bowled by Vithsal Govind for 36 (67 balls), 44-5. Muhammad Zaid and Mark Smith were the new batsmen, Mark Smith tried to take the bowling but lost Muhammad Zaid caught by Matthew Siddall off Jeremy Davies for 3 (14 balls).50-6
Lewis Wellings came in next and was out lbw to Vithsal Govind for 4 (11 balls), 55-7. Any hope of the hosts saving the game went with Mark Smith being caught by Declan Clerkin off Vithsal Govind for 7 (45 balls), 62-8.
Matthew Siddall cleaned up the tail with James Lupton out caught for 4 (11 balls), 62-9 and one run later having Dom Jackson stumped by Harry McAleer for 0 (balls) as Fulwood & Brought were 63 all out in 32 overs with Chris Brookes 1no (1 ball).
Vithsal Govind 4-15 from 9 overs and Matthew Siddall 2-25 off 11 were the match winners along with Jeremy Davies 1-3 off 4, Declan Clerkin 1-9 from 7 and James Amor 0-10 off 1
Leyland v Mawdesley
Mawdesley won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and invited the hosts to bat first. Openers Karl Cross and James Critchley got Leyland off to a good start with an opening partnership of 61 broken when James Critchley was caught by Tony Ambrose off Neil O'Malley for 34 (48 balls), 61-1.
Jacob Wright was the hosts number three but on reaching 10 (17 balls) he was run out by Fyffe Dennis, 72-2. Two runs later the hosts lost two wickets, Kurtis Watson caught and bowled by Dominic Hendricks for 1 (14 balls), 74-3, followed by Neil O'Malley trapping Karl Cross lbw for 24 (51 balls), 74-4
Ross Bretherton and Andrew Makinson were the new batsmen and they steadied the ship with a partnership of 55, Matthew Parkinson was the man to make the breakthrough bowling Andrew Makinson for 23 (63 balls), 129-5.
James Rounding joined Ross Bretherton and they added another 32 runs when Bretherton was out caught and bowled by Joshua Unsworth for 34 (68 balls), 161-6.
Matthew Parkinson bowled James Rounding for 22 (33 balls) in the last over, 161-7. Benjamin Baker 3no (balls) and Iain Critchley 1no (2 balls) saw Leyland close on 167-7 in their 50 overs.
The Mawdesley bowling was Matthew Parkinson 2-16 from 5 overs, Neil O'Malley 2-32 off 2, Joshua Unsworth 1-28 from 7, Dominic Hendricks 1-43 off 15, Christopher Andrews 0-15 from 7 and Joshua Adamson 0-19 off 3
Daniel Unsworth and Lee Berrie were the openers for the first game in the Northern Premier Cricket league for Mawdesley CC, Lee Berrie was the first to go caught by Jacob Wright off Kurtis Watson for 0 (4 balls), 6-1.
Dominic Hendricks was the visitors number three, Kurtis Watson claimed his second wicket trapping Daniel Unsworth lbw for 13 (23 balls), 19-2. Toby Ambrose was the new batsman and with Dominic Hendricks were going along nicely until Iain Critchley intervened having Dominic Hendricks lbw for 25 (46 runs), 63-3
Nathan Trengrove replaced Hendricks but with the score on 78 Benjamin Baker took two wickets in two balls, firstly Nathan Trengrove caught by Jacob Wright for 11 (29 balls), 78-5, followed next ball by new man Christopher Andrews being bowled for 0. 78-5.
Once again the visitors lost two wickets on the same score, Toby Amdrose had being battling to keep his side in the game but was next out bowled by Iain Critchley for 20 (51 balls), 80-6, Fyffe Dennis followed caught behind by Adam Sexton off Benjamin Baker for 2 (3 balls), 80-7. Iain Critchley trapped Joshua Unsworth lbw for 0 (9 balls) 83-8. New batsmen Joshua Adamson and Neil O'Malley did their best to stave off defeat.
It was Benjamin Baker taking two wickets in an over that brought the visitors innings to an end. He broke the Adamson/O'Malley partnership, Adamson caught by James Rounding for 14 (35 balls), 99-9, then four balls later claiming his fifth wicket had Matthew Parkinson caught by James Critchley for 0 (4 balls) as Mawdesley were 99 all out in 36.5 overs, Neil O'Malley was 2no (20 balls).
Benjamin Baker was the match winner with 5-31 from 10.5 overs with Iain Critchley 3-9 off 9, Kurtis Watson 2-33 from 9 and Andrew Jacques 0-20 off 8
Netherfield v Longridge
Netherfield won the toss at Parkside Road and put the visitors into bat. Luke Platt and Joshua Mullin were the Longridge opening pair, In the third over of the match Luke Platt was stumped by Will Beeden off Matt Jackson for 0 (4 balls), 5-1. Zac Christie came in at three but soon lost his partner Joshua Mullin caught by Isaac Medhurst off Matt Jackson for 12 (24 balls), 14-2
The new batsman was Taariq Chiecktey who became victim number three for Matt Jackson caught by Josh Wills for 4 (12 balls), 28-3. Things did not improve for the visitors with the loss of two wickets on the same score, Zac Christie was bowled by Isaac Medhurst for 10 (30 balls), 30-4, followed by Rob Hollinghurst caught by Will Beeden off Matt Jackson for 0 (6 balls), 30-5.
Tom Turner and Zach Proctor tried to rebuild the innings, Josh Wills had other ideas having Tom Turner caught behind by Lewis Edge for 5 (18 balls), 43-6, Alex Mason joined Zach Proctor and their partnership was 31 when Zach Proctor was caught by Ben Barrow off Samuel Medhurst for 19 (32 balls), 74-7
Alex Mason went one run later bowled by Samuel Medhurst for 16 (26 balls), 75-8. Samuel Medhurst cleaned up the tail, trapping Jonathan Millward lbw for 1 (2 balls), 76-9 then bowling Matt Greenall for 0 (8 balls) as Longridge were 78 all out in 27.2 overs with Jake Durnell 2no (2 balls).
The Netherfield opening bowlers put the hosts on the road to victory, Matt Jackson 4-13 from 9 overs, Samuel Medhurst 4-19 off 6.2 supported by Josh Wills 1-11 from 5 and Isaac Medhurst 1-27 off 7
Josh Dixon and Reece Irving came out for Netherfield and got the hosts off to a good start with a partnership of 40 broken when Reece Irving was caught by Taariq Chiecktey off Jake Durnell for 21 (32 balls), 40-1. Ben Barrow joined Josh Dixon and put on 24 runs when Matt Greenall had Ben Barrow caught behind by Tom Turner for 17 (11 balls), 64-2.
That was the last success for the visitors as Josh Dixon 25no (39 balls) and John Huck 10no (7 balls) saw the hosts home on 76-2 in 14.4 overs.
The Longridge bowling was Jake Durnell 1-16 from 3 overs, Matt Greenall 1-19 off 4, Jonathan Millward 0-16 from 4, Alex Mason 0-17 off 3 and Luke Platt 0-6 from 0.4
Settle v St Annes
Settle won the toss on their Northern Premier Cricket League debut at Marshfield and invited the visitors to bat first, The St Annes opening pair of Yohan De Silva and Luke Jardine got them off to a good start broken by Tom Davidson bowling LUke Jardine for 9 (23 balls), 32-1
Nathan Bolus was in at three but with only seven runs added he fell bowled by Lewis Smith for 3 (6 balls), 39-2. Lukman Vahaluwala joined De Silva and looked the be going well, The introduction off Amar Ullah had an immediate effect in his second over he had Lukman Vahaluwala caught by Ashen Silva for 33 (34 balls), 83-3.
The next man in was Nathan Armstrong, Amar Ullah took the vital wicket of Yohan De Silva caught by Benjamin Hulse for 27 (51 balls), 90-4. Mitch Bolus replaced De Silva but fell caught by Lloyd Smith off Ashen Silva for 2 (13 balls), 101-5.
James Bradley was Nathan Armstrong's next partner but any hope of rebuilding the innings went when Robbie Davidson stumped Armstrong off Amar Ullah for 14 (18 balls), 101-5. Ryan Birkman came to the wicket but with only three runs added Amar Ullah had James Bradley caught behind by Robbie Davidson for 1 (10 balls), 104-6. Mitch Bolus went one run later caught by Lloyd Smith off Ashen Silva for 2 (13 balls), 105-7.
The last three wickets for the visitors went with the total on 116, Ashen Silva claimed two of the last three, Ryan Birkman was first to go caught by Will Smith off Ashen Silva for 6 (17 balls), 116-8, next was Kyle Costin bowled for 0 (2 balls), 116-9. Amar Ullah claimed his fifth victim Will Trohear bowled for 2 (18 balls) as St Annes were 116 all out in 32.2 overs with Keith Reid 0 no (2 balls).
Amar Ullah 5-21 from 8.2 overs and Ashen Silva 3-16 off 8 did the damage supported by Tom Davidson 1-23 from 6, Lewis Smith 1-31 off 8 and Will Smith 0-10 from 2
Due to the weather Settle were set a revised total of 87 in 50 overs for victory. Archie Phillipson and Lewis Smith were the opening pair but got off to a bad start losing Lewis Smith caught behind by James Bradley off Lukman Vahaluwala for 1 (7 balls), 8-1.
Ashen Silva was next in and with Archie Phillipson took the score past the fifty mark when Yohan De Silva trapped Ashen Silva lbw for 19 (32 balls), 56-2. John Davidson 17no (41 balls) and Archie Phillipson 47no (69 balls) saw the hosts home on 88-2 in 24.3 overs in their first league match.
The St Annes bowling was Yohan De Silva 1-16 from 7.3 overs, Lukman Vahaluwala 1-17 off 5, Ryan Birkman 0-7 from 2, Mitch Bolus 0-13 off 2, Kyle Costin 0-16 from 3 and Keith Reid 0-18 off 5
