The Northern Cricket League Review

The fifteenth round of matches in the Northern Premier League 2024 season saw Fleetwood extend their lead with a win over Netherfield

Euxton won their second game defeating second placed Leyland. Kendal take over Leyland's place with a win at Chorley

Blackpool defeated Settle and their were winning draws for Fulwood & Broughton and Garstang

Longridge defeated Settle in the re-arranged fixture on Sunday.

DIVISION ONE:

Chorley v Kendal

Chorley won the toss at Windsor Park and invited the visitors to bat first, Edwin Moulton struck early having Feddie Fallows caught by Ruan Haasbroek for 1 (6 balls), 2-1.

Max Winskill came in at number three but on reaching 14 (25 balls) he was bowled by Sam Steeple, 28-2, Next in was Finlay Richardson, he lost his partner Evan Williams caught by Zayn Wadiwala off Will Moulton for 8 (40 balls), 37-3.

Bradley Earl joined Richardson and they were progressing well until Bradley Earl was caught by Miller Childs off Edwin Moulton for 17 (31 balls), 97-4.

Lewis Richardson was the new batsman, the score was on 128 when Miller Childs took two wickets in three balls, Lewis Richardson was caught by James Dunn for 15 (17 balls), 128-5, two balls later Jack White was bowled for 0 (2 balls), 128-6.

Tim Boyd replaced White and with Finlay Richardson began to build a good score until both were out within two runs of each other, Finlay Richardson went first stumped by Harry Barclay off Ruan Haasbroek for 86 (114 balls), 182-7. two runs later Tim Boyd was caught behind by Harry Barclay off James Dunn for 18 (36 balls), 184-8.

The new batsman was Sam Sharp who quickly became Ruan Haasbroek's seond victim caught by James Dunn for 2 (4 balls), 186-9, The Kendal innings came to a close on 202 in 49.5 overs with Thomas Bentley run out for 14 (14 balls) leaving Chris Miller 5no (10 balls).

The Chorley bowling was Miller Childs 2-28 from 6 overs, Edwin Moulton 2-33 off 12, Ruan Haasbroek 2-36 from 10, Sam Steeple 1-17 off 5, Will Moulton 1-18 from 6, James Dunn 1-37 off 8.5 and Matt Dawson 0-14 from 2.

The Chorley reply got of to a terrible start losing Miller Childs lbw to Jack White for 0 (6 balls), 0-1. Things did not improve for the home side losing two wickets with the score on 16, new man in Harry Barclay was bowled by Jack White for 6 (19 balls), 16-2, Will Moulton followed caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Sam Sharp for 9 (25 balls), 16-3.

Ruan Haasbroek and Zayn Wadiwala were the two new batsmen, both were out within two runs of each other, Zayn Wadiwala was cught by Chris Miller off Jack White for 9 (13 balls), 37-4, Sam Sharp had Ruan Haasbroek caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 13 (17 balls), 39-5.

Edwin Moulton and Ben Simpkins were given the task of rebuilding the innings, Chris Miller had other ideas bowling Ben Simpkins for 5 (8 balls), 44-6, Sam Steeple replaced Simpkins but was soon out caught by Jack White off Chris Miller for 0 (5 balls), 48-7.

James Dunn joined Edwin Moulton and they dug in to try and save the game, their partnership was 41 when Freddie Fallows caught and bowled James Dunn for 25 (44 balls), 89-8.

Kieran Yould came in at ten and was bowled by Chris Miller for 0 (5 balls), 90-9. Chorley were bowled out for 104 in 38.3 overs with Matt Dawson lbw to Chris Miller for 6 (16 balls), with Edwin Moulton 24no (57 balls).

For Kendal Chris Miller took 4-16 from 11.3 overs, Jack White 3-15 off 6, Sam Sharp 2-28 from 9, Freddie Fallows 1-14 off 6 and Thomas Bentley 0-26 from 6.

Euxton v Leyland

Euxton won the toss at Balshaw Park and put the visitors into bat with early success, Karl Cross was caught by Louis Sweeney off Jack Shovelton for 4 (7 balls), 8-1. Jack Shovelton then accounted for number three Zak Willox caught and bowled for 1 (7 balls), 11-2.

James Critchley had a new partner in Kurtis Watson and they took the score past fifty only for Kurtis Watson to fall lbw to Joseph Bowden for 25 (49 balls), 58-3.

Ross Bretherton replaced Watson and with Critchley were slowly keeping the scoreborad ticking over, the introduction of Ben Houghton into the attack had quick results James Critchley was stumped by Danny Curtis off Houghton for 39 (75 balls), 87-4

The new batsman was Jacob Wright, Ben Houghton claimed wicket number two having Ross Bretherton caught by Joseph Barker for 10 (39 balls), 90-5, James Rounding was in next but was stumped by Danny Curtis off Ben Houghton for 4 (12 balls), 98-6.

The visitors suffered the loss of two wickets with the score on 114, Luke Hands was caught and bowled by Ben Houghton for 14 (13 balls), 114-7, James Bone bowled Jacob Wright for 8 (29 balls), 114-8.

Iain Critchley was joined by Andrew Jacques but Ben Houghton claimed his fifth victim Iain Critchley caught and bowled for 8 (22 balls), 126-9.

Last man Reiss Carrington was out lbw to James Bone for 0 (2 balls) as Leyland were 127 all out in 44.4 overs with Andrew Jacques 5no (14 balls).

Ben Houghton took 5-26 from 9 overs, Jack Shovelton 2-16 off 7, James Bone 2-23 from 9.4, Joseph Bowden 1-14 off 5, Zane Gilder 0-12 from 6 and Joseph Barker 0-28 off 8.

The Euxton openers got off to a bright start with 28 runs off the first three overs, Ross Bretherton made the breakthrough bowling Ben Houghton for 3 (14 balls), 28-1.

Ross Bretherton claimed his secnd victim James Bone the host's number three caught by Kurtis Watson for 0 (9 balls), 33-2. Aneeq Hassan had a new partner in Sam Sweeney and they were slowly moving the score along, Andrew Jacques broke the partnership bowling Sam Sweeney for 7 (25 balls), 52-3.

Zane Gilder replaced Sweeney but fell caught by Kurtis Watson off Andrew Jacques for 6 (21 balls), 64-4, Zane Nirod joined Hassan and gave him support and were going well until Zane Nirod was run out by James Critchley for 8 (42 balls), 91-5.

Jack Shovelton was the new batsman and they were closing in on victory when he was out caught by James Critchley off Iain Critchley for 14 (19 balls), 113-6, Joseph Barker became Aneeq Hassan's latest partner but with one run required for victory he was bowled by Ross Bretherton for 6 (16 balls), 127-7.

Louis Sweeney came to the wicket and scored the winning run off his second ball as Euxton closed on 128-7 in 47.7 overs with Aneeq Hassan carrying his bat with 52no (141 balls).

For Leyland Ross Bretherton took 3-25 from 14 overs, Andrew Jacques 2-21 off 12, Iain Critchley 1-17 from 10, Luke Hands 0-15 off 5 and Kurtis Watson 0-28 from 6.

Fleetwood v Netherfield

Fleetwood won the toss at Broadwater and asked the visitors to bat first, James Amor stuck early having Reece Irving caught by Kian Farnworth for 0 (4 balls), 0-1.

Ben Barrow was the Netherfield number three and with Josh Dixon they found runs hard to come by, Jeremy Davies made the breakthrough Ben Barrow caught by Declan Clerkin for 21 (48 balls), 37-2.

John Huck came in next but soon lost his partner Josh Dixon caught by Adam Sharrocks off Vithsal Govind for 18 (56 balls), 47-3.

James Amor claimed his second wicket that of John Huck caught behind by Harry McAleer for 0 (12 balls), 51-4, things did not improve for the visiors with new man in Will Beeden out caught by Jeremy Davies off Vithsal Govind for 4 (6 balls), 58-5.

Lee Hogg joined Riley Vernon and they began to rebuild the innings, Declan Clerkin broke the partnership bowling Lee Hogg for 28 (32 balls), 93-6. Oli Wileman came in and supported Vernon until he was caught by James Amor off Vithsal Govind for 7 (30 balls), 118-7

Isaac Medhurst replaced Hogg but soon became wicket number four for Vithsal Govind stumped by Harry McAleer for 6 (11 balls), 131-8.

Riley Vernon's fight innings came to an end caught by Declan Clerkin off James Amor fot 37 (78 balls), 138-9. The innings closed on 138 all out in 47.3 overs with James Amor claiming his fourth wicket Matt Jackson caught by Jeremy Davies for 0 (1 ball), Samuel Medhurst was 1no (7 balls).

James Amour 4-30 from 8.3 overs and Vithsal Govind 4-30 off 15 were the main wickets takers supported by Jeremy Davies 1-25 from 9 and Declan Clerkin 1-44 off 15.

Declan Clerkin and Andy Drake opened for the hosts, Declan Clerkin was the first to go caught by Isaac Medhurst off Matt Jackson for 10 (17 balls), 18-1.

Vathsal Govind came in at three and with Andy Drake were slowly building up the score until Andy Drake was caught Ben Barrow off Isaac Medhurst for 18 (52 balls), 47-2.

Charlie Clark was next in but was bowled by Riley Vernon for 1 (5 balls), 48-3. Jeremy Davies joined Govind and they had nearly doubled the score when Jeremy Davies was caught by Samuel Medhurst off Matt Jackson for 15 (47 balls), 81-4.

Harry McAleer replaced Davies but was soon out caught by Josh Dixon off Samuel Medhurst for 6 (3 balls), 88-5. Adam Sharrocks was the new batsman and with Govind took the total to 100, Matt Jackson claimed his third wicket Adam Sharrocks caught by Will Beeden for 1 (8 balls), 100-6.

Vithsal's next partner was Nathan Bend who was scoring well until he was lbw to Riley Vernon for 13 (17 balls), 121-7. Kian Farnworth came to the wicket and was scoring at at run a ball as Fleetwood reached their target of 140-7 in 48.4 overs. Vathsal Govind was 56no (128 balls) and Kian Farnworth 15no (15 balls).

The Netherfield bowling was Matt Jackson 3-51 from 14 overs, Riley Vernon 2-20 off 9, Isaac Medhurst 1-13 from 10, Samuel Medhurst 1-50 off 13.4 and Oli Wileman 0-2 from 2.

Fulwood & Broughton v Longridge

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Highfield ground and elected to bat first, they lost Matt Smith bowled by Alex Mason for 6 (14 balls), 8-1. Brendan Morris was at number three and with Ewen Mansford were going along nicely until Jake Durnell had Ewen Mansford caught by Tom Howarth for 16 (43 runs), 42-2.

Simon Kerrigan was in next but was soon out caught behind by Tom Turner off Gabriel Dowthwaite for 4 (7 balls), 53-3. Ben Rosbottom replaced Kerrigan and with Brendan Morris were going well, Jake Durnell broke the partnership Ben Rosbottom caught by Taariq Chiecktey for 34 (63 balls), 136-4.

James McWilliam came in and was out lbw to Alex Mason for 2 (6 balls), 149-5, Jon Fenton joined Morris and they kept the scoreboard ticking over, Jon Fenton was the next man out caught by Jake Durnell off Jacob Proctor for 17 (26 balls), 182-6.

James Lupton was the new man in, Brendan Morris reached his century then was out caught by Alex Mason off Gabriel Dowthwaite for 100 (124 balls), 186-7, Lewis Wellings replaced Morris but fell bowled by Jacob Proctor for 2 (4 balls), 188-8

We were now in the last two overs of the innings, Gabriel Dowthwaite had Ben Parkinson caught behind by Tom Turner for 1 (3 balls), 195-9. On the last ball of the innings Marcus Allen was run out by Tom Turner for 1 (2 balls) as the hosts closed on 198 in their 50 overs with James Luton 8no (8 balls).

The wickets were shared amongst the Longridge bowlers, Gabriel Dowthwaite took 3-48 from 10 overs, Jacob Proctor 2-42 off 10, Alex Mason 2-45 from 15 and Jake Durnell 2-56 off 15.

The Fulwood & Broughton openers got off to e rasonable start parted when Taariq Chiecktey was bowled by Jon Fenton for 15 (22 balls), 25-1. Number three Luke Platt and opener Joshua Mullin took the score past the hundred only for Platt to fall caught by Ewen Mansford off Simon Kerrigan for 25 (69 balls), 103-2.

Zac Christie joined Mullin, Simon Kerrigan struck with two wickets in two balls, Zac Christie was stumped by James McWilliam for 2 (5 balls), 115-3. next ball Rob Hollinghurst was lbw for 0 (1 ball), 115-4. Disaster struck for the visitors as new man Tom Turner was caught by Simon Kerrigan off Jon Fenton for 0 (5 balls), 116-5.

The visitors wanted 83 runs for victory from 14 overs with only five wickets left, Joshua Mullin was looking for someone to stay with him, Alex Mason was next in and did his best to support Mullin, there were six overs to go with 47 required when Lewis Wellings swung the game in the hosts favour with two wickets in three balls, He had Alex Mason caught behind by James McWilliam for 24 (30 balls), 152-6, next Tom Howarth was caught by Simon Kerrigan for 0 (2 balls) 152-7.

Gabriel Dowthwaite was Mullin's new partner and he quickly went bowled by Simon Kerrigan for 5 (12 balls), 161-8. That was the last success for the hosts as Jake Durnell 6no (7 balls) and Joshua Mullin who carried his bat was 82no (149 balls) saw the visitors close on 174-8 in their 50 overs.

Simon Kerrigan took 4-41 from 15 overs, Lewis Wellings 2-28 off 8, Jon Fenton 2-55 from 15, Marcus Allen 0-14 off 7 and James Lupton 0-31 from 5.

Settle v Blackpool

Blackpool won the toss at Marshfield and invited the hosts to bat first, Matthew Grindley struck with the third ball of the innings bowling Archie Phillipson for 0 (1 ball), 1-1.

Ashen Silva was the hosts number three but did not last very long caught behind by Ben Howarth off Harry Birkman for 2 (17 balls), 15-2. Lewis Smith and new man Amar Ullah were given the task to consolidate the innings, they were going well until Shivam Chaudhary trapped Lewis Smith lbw for 32 (69 balls), 84-3.

John Davidson replaced Smith but quickly fell bowled by Shivam Chaudhary for 3 (19 balls), 91-4. The Settle middle order collapsed for 6 runs, William Davidson was bowled by Jamie Thomson for 0 (3 balls), 92-5. Benjamin Hulse did not fair any better bowled by Shivam Chaudhary for 1 (5 balls), 95-6. Lloyd Smith was next out caught by Paul Danson off Jamie Thomson for 0 (4 balls), 98-7.

Amar Ullah was watching the collapse and saw his next partner Andrew Fry out bowled first ball by Jamie Thomson for 0, 102-8.

Harvey Green joined Ullah and gave him some support, Shivam Chaudhary broke the partnership having Harvey Green caught behind by Ben Howarth for 14 (15 balls), 121-9.

The last wicket put on 22 runs before Joe Pickles was out lbw to Jamie Thomson for 4 (10 balls) as Settle were bowled out for 143 in 38.3 overs with Amar Ullah undefeted on 64 (89 balls).

Shivam Chaudhary and Jamie Thomson did the damage, Shivam Chaudhary 4-25 from 9 overs, Jamie Thomson 4-48 off 9.3 with Matthew Grindley 1-24 from 13 and Harry Birkman 1-30 off 7.

The Blackpool reply got off to a bad start losing both openers early, Rishit Sharma was first to go lbw to Lloyd Smith for 4 (19 balls), 10-1, two runs later Arran Lewin was caught by Ashen Silva off William Davidson for 4 (28 balls), 12-2.

Shivam Chaudhary and Andrew Needham were the two new batsmen, William Davidson struck bowling Shivam Chaudhary for 9 (15 balls), 25-3, Stuart Ashford came to the wicket but soon lost his partner Andrew Needham caught behind by Benjamin Hulse off Lloyd Smith for 15 (19 balls), 37-4.

Jake Muncaster joined Ashford to try and get the innings back on course but he was out after a fighting innings stumped by Benjamin Hulse off Amar Ullah for 7 (36 balls), 55-5.

The visitors were in trouble, Harry Birkman replaced Muncaster and scoring at a run a ball began with Stuart Ashford to swing the game in the visitors favour, The Benjamin Hulse/William Davidson combination broke through Stuart Ashford stumped for 41 (82 balls), 126-6.

Ben Howarth was Harry Birkman's new partner and they were in sight of victory when Harry Birkman was stumped off a wide by Benjamin Hulse off William Davidon for 48 (47 balls), 140-7.

Matthew Grindley was next in and scored three runs to level the scores, William Davidson claimed his fifth wicket having Matthew Grindley lbw for 3 (3 balls), 143-8. Jamie Thomson Thomson came to the wicket and hit his first ball for four to give Blackpool victory on 148-8 in 42 overs with Ben Howarth 2no (2 balls).

William Davidson took 5-42 from 13 overs, Lloyd Smith 2-22 off 13, Amar Ullah 1-42 from 8 and Ashen Silva 0-33 off 8.

St Annes v Garstang

St Annes won the toss at Vernon Road and put the visitors into bat, They had early success with Michael Walling caught by Yohan De Silva off Mitch Bolus for 3 (2 balls), 8-1

The Garstang number three was Matthew Crowther who with Imran Butt started carefully and increased the run rate as the innings progressed. They took control but when their partnership was 181 Matthew Crowther was out caught behind by James Bradley off Mitch Bolus for 91 (143 balls), 189-2.

Tom Higson replaced Crowther and went on the attack and was out on the first ball of the last over caught by Yohan De Silva off Tom Bradley for 40 (17 balls)(3x4, 3x6), 239-3.

Mark Walling joined Imran Butt who had reached his century the previous over, Garstang closed on 255-3 in their 50 overs with Imran Butt 113no (10x4, 4x6) with Mark Walling 3no (1 ball).

The St Annes bowling was Mitch Bolus 2-75 from 13 over, Tom Bradley 1-50 off 5, Joe Hayton 0-19 from 3, Yohan De Silva 0-21 off 6, Lukman Vahaluwala 0-44 from 15 and Joe Davies 0-45 off 8.

The hosts openers Yohan De Silva and Nathan Armstrong gave the hosts a brilliant start with an opening partnership of 92 broken with the introduction of Imran Butt into the attack bowling Yohan De Silva for 48 (86 balls), 92-1.

Lukman Vahaluwala was the next in but disaster for the hosts with Imran Butt taking two wickets in three balls, Nathan Armstrong was bowled for 36 (70 balls), 97-2, New man Nathan Bolus went the same way bowled for 0 (2 balls), 97-3.

Luke Jardine replaced Bolus but he soon lost his partner Lukman Vahaluwala again to Imran Butt caught by Danny Gilbert for 11 (24 balls), 116-4, Tom Bradley joined Jardine and they looked to be making progress when Luke Jardine was caught by Mark Wallinig off Danny Gilbert for 30 (34 balls), 149-5.

Ryan Birkman was the new man but lost Tom Bradley giving Imran Butt his fifth wicket caught by Ashton Charles for 20 (18 balls), 153-6. Joe Davies came to the wicket and dug in.

In the 44th over Danny Gilbert struck with two wickets, Ryan Birkman was caught by Alfie Greaves for 5 (12 balls), 170-7, three balls later Mitch Bolus was caught behind by Matthew Crowther for 0, 170-8.

There were eight balls left when Joe Hayton was caught behind by Matthew Crowther off Danny Gilbert for 6 (10 balls), 182-9. James Bradley 0no (1 ball) played the last ball of the over leaving Joe Davies 16no (40 balls) to save the game for the hosts as they closed on 186-9 in their 50 overs.

Imran Butt took 5-46 from 13 overs to go with his unbeaten century, Danny Gilbert 4-42 off 14, Michael Walling 0-14 from 4, Ian Walling 0-33 off 10 and Tom Higson 0-39 from 9.

Longridge v Settle

In this re-arranged fixture from the begining of the season Settle won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and decided to bat first, They lost Archie Phillipson caught by Zac Christie off Jacob Proctor for 4 (11 balls), 10-1.

Number three Ashen Silva joined Leiws Smith and they were going well until Lewis Smith was out lbw to Jake Durnell for 37 (76 balls), 65-2.

Amar Ullah was the next batsman but lost his partner Ashen Silva caught by Joshua Mullin off Jake Durnell for 31 (81 balls), 78-3. The new batsman was Benjamin Hulse who was run out by Joshua Mullin for 0 (13 balls), 81-4.

John Davidson replaced Hulse, Jake Durnell claimed his third victim Amar Ullah caught by Joshua Mullin for 11 (32 balls), 93-5. The visitors were in trouble and things got even worse with loss of two wickets on 111, Gabriel Dowthwaite ran out John Davidson for 8 (23 balls), 111-6, Jake Durnell claimed his fourth wicket Lloyd Smith caught behind by Taariq Chiecktey for 0 (2 balls), 111-7.

Joe Pickles was the new batsman, Gabriel Dowthwaite removed the tail, firstly William Davidson out caught by Alex Mason for 24 (23 balls), 120-8, he bowled Ben Mitchell for 1 (8 balls), 123-9, finally he had Joe Pickles caught by Tom Howarth for 5 (8 balls) as Settle were bowled out for 126 in 47.3 overs with Sam Walker 0no (8 balls).

Jake Durnell lead the way for the hosts with 4-35 from 15 overs with Gabriel Dowthwaite 3-6 off 2.3, Jacob Proctor 1-11 from 6, Tom Howarth 0-26 off 10 and Alex Mason 0-43 from 14.

Longridge got off to a bad start in their reply Joshua Mullin caught by Sam Walker off William Davidson for 1 (11 balls), 10-1. Luke Platt joined Taariq Chiecktey and were going well until Taariq Chiecktey was out lbw to Amar Ullah for 33 (30 balls), 41-2.

Zac Christie replaced Chiecktey and with Platt had doubled the score when he was caught by John Davidson off Lewis Smith for 29 (81 balls), 87-3.

That was the last success for the visitors as Luke Platt 38no (121 balls) and Rob Hollinghurst 9no (31 balls) saw the hosts home on 128-3 in 45.3 overs.

For Settle William Davidson took 1-13 from 6, Lewis Smith 1-14 off 5, Amar Ullah 1-25 from 15, Joe Pickles 0-6 off 2, Archie Phillipson 0-14 from 2.3, Lloyd Smith 0-18 off 3 and Ashen Silva 0-33 from 12.
