The Northern Cricket League Review

The twelfth round of matches in the Northern Premier League 2024 season saw leaders Fleetwood extend their lead with two wins over the weekend

They beat Mawdesley on Saturday and close rivals Kendal in a re-arranged game on Sunday.

Leyland continued their winning ways defeating Fulwood & Broughton to remain in second place.

There were also wins for Blackpool, Kendal, Longridge and Netherfield.

DIVISION ONE:

Blackpool v Settle

Blackpool won the toss at Stanley Park and chose to bat first, Ben Howarth and Rishit Sharma opened and looked to be going well when both were out to Will Vause, Ben Howarth was first to go caught behind by Robbie Davidson for 12 (18 balls), 26-2, Rishit Sharma followed bowled for 8 (9 balls), 26-2.

Shivam Chaudhary and Andrew Needham were the new batsmen, Chaudhary was soon out bowled by Lloyd Smith for 3 (14 balls), 32-3. Josh Boyne joined Andrew Needham and they took control, Josh Boyne reached his century and their partneship 183 when he lost his partner Andrew Needham bowled by Jurie Snyman for 73 (102 balls), 215-4

Jake Muncaster came in next, Jurie Snyman claimed his second wicket Josh Boyne bowled for 122 (138 balls) (17x4, 1x6), 234-5. Stuart Ashford 7no (8 balls) was Muncaster's 13no (16 balls) new partner and they saw the hosts close on 254-5 in their 50 overs.

The Settle bowling was Jurie Snyman 2-50 from 12 overs, Will Vause 2-55 off 10, Lloyd Smith 1-29 from 7, Tom Davidson 0-27 off 6, William Davidson 0-31 from 4 and Amar Ullah 0-56 off 11

The visitors needed a good start in the chase of the big score and they started disastrously losing both openers without a run on the board. Jurie Snyman was bowled by Matthew Grindley for 0 (5 balls), 0-1, Lewis Smith followed bowled by Ansar Noorstani for 0 (4 balls), 0-2

Amar Ullah and John Davidson were the batsmen picking up the pieces, Ansar Noorstani struck again having John Davidson lbw for 2 (8 balls), 6-3

Archie Phillipson was next in and with Ullah kept the scoreboard ticking over until Amar Ullah was caught by Ansar Noorstani off Matthew Grindley for 24 (25 balls), 34-4.

Benjamin Hulse joined Archie Phillipson, Josh Boyne was brought into the attack and took three wickets with the score on 44, two wickets in his first over, Archie Phillipson was first, caught by Shivam Chaudhary for 17 (30 balls), 44-4, Tom Davidson followed to the same combination Chaudhary/ Boyne for 0 (4 balls), 44-6, wicket number three was Robbie Davidson lbw to Boyne for 0 (8 balls), 44-7.

Benjamin Hulse and new partner Lloyd Smith set about trying to reuild the innings, It was Boyne who once again made the breakthrough having Benjamin Hulse caught behind by Ben Howarth for 21 (47 balls), 71-8.

Matthew Grindley returned to the attack and had Lloyd Smith caught by Stuart Ashford for 7 (27 balls), 71-9. Josh Boyne ended a perfect day, a century and took his fifth wicket bowling William Davidson for 9 (13 balls) as Settle were 81 all out in 29.2 overs. Will Vause was 1no (5 balls).

Josh Boyne took 5-8 in 8.2 overs, Matthew Grindley 3-41 off 12, Snar Noostani 2-16 from 6 and Izatullah Stankzai 0-16 off 3.

Kendal v Euxton

Euxton won the toss at Shap Road and invited the hosts to bat first, They got off to a quick start but lost Freddie Fallows caught by Max Harper off Jack Shovelton for 17 (13 balls), 23-1.

The man in at three was James Bowman. The batsmen was finding runs hard to come by, The introduction of Zane Gilder into the attack saw him trap James Bowman lbw for 12 (46 balls). 49-2.

Sam Dutton replaced Bowman and struggled before falling to Zane Gilder caught by Aneeq Hassan for 7 (27 balls), 65-3. Bradley Earl joined Williams and the pace quickened. Zane Gilder claimed his third wicket Evan Williams caught behind by Danny Curtis for 23 (68 balls), 101-4.

Finlay Richardson joined Earl and they were going along steadily until James Bone took two wickets, Bradley Earl fell caught by Zane Gilder for 33 (43 balls), 120-5. New batsman Lewis Richardson went fifth ball caught by Aneeq Hassan for 0, 120-6. Sam Sharp was in next and with Richardson were going along nicely, James Bone struck once again having Finlay Richardson lbw for 27 (53 balls), 147-7.

Sharp's new partner was Chris Miller. Sam Sharp was the next to go caught by Jack Shovelton off James Bone for 15 (22 balls), 162-8. Louis Backhouse came in next and was scoring at a run a ball until he was bowled by Louis Sweeney for 13 (11 balls), 183-9. Last man in was Kudeep Singh who was out caught by Joseph Bowden off Jack Shovelton for 0 (2 balls) as Kendal were bowled out for 184 in 49.3 overs with Chris Miller 16no (18 balls).

James Bone lead the way for Euxton with 4-43 from 15 overs supported by Zane Gilder 3-39 off 9, Jack Shovleton 2-26 from 7.3, Louis Sweeney 1-41 off 9 and Joseph Bowden 0-26 from 9.

The visitors got off to a bad start losing Ben Houghton bowled by Sam Sharp for 0 (7 balls), 2-1. In at number three was James Bone and with Aneeq Hassan they slowly built up the score, the introduction of Chris Miller had immediate success, he had James Bone caught by Freddie Fallows for 14 (37 balls), 33-2.

New batsman Sam Sweeney quickly became Chris Miller's second victim bowled for 1 (7 balls), 35-3. Zane Gilder joined Hassan and they battled away but the introduction of Kuldeep Singh into the attack saw the begining of a total collapse losing 6 wickets for 6 runs.

Singh made the breakthrough with Aneeq Hassan caught by Sam Dutton for 26 (67 balls), 65-4, next over he bowled Jack Shovelton for 0 (1 ball), 65-5, Zane Gilder's fighting innings ended lbw to Singh for 19 (41 balls), 66-6.

Max Harper and Joseph Barker were the new batsmen and both were out on the same score, Harper lbw to Chris Miller for 1 (4 balls), 68-7. Barker followed bowled by Kuldeep Singh for 2 (11 balls), 68-8

Chris Miller cleaned up the tail, Danny Curtis caught by Bradley Earl for 0 (7 balls), 69-9, Chris Miller claimed his fifth wicket Joseph Bowden lbw for 0 (9 balls) as Euxton were 71 all out in 34 overs with Louis Sweeney 3no (15 balls).

The Kendal bowling was Chris Miller 5-24 in 12 overs, Kuldeep Singh 4-4 from 5, Sam Sharp 1-11 off 6, Freddie Fallows 0-8 from 6 and Louis Backhouse 0-21 off 5.

Leyland v Fulwood & Broughton

Leyland won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and elected to bat first, Karl Cross and James Critchley started slowly and were separated by Khalil Patel having Karl Cross caught behind by James McWilliam for 11 (27 balls), 22-1

Zak Willox was the Leyland number three but was out for 7 (7 balls) caught by Simon Kerrigan off Marcus Allen, 29-2. Kurtis Watson replaced Willox and with Critchley took the score past the fifty, Khalil Patel broke the partnership having James Critchley caught by Brendan Morris for 33 (50 balls), 53-3.

The next man in was Ross Bretherton and with Watson were going well until disaster for the hosts , Ross Bretherton was run out by Lewis Wellings for 32 (80 balls), 126-4.

Jacob Wright was the new man and he continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over, The reintroduction of Khalil Patel into the attack saw him take four wickets, Jacob Wright was bowled for 12 (20 balls), 147-5, Andrew Makinson was caught by Brendan Morris for 2 (10 balls), 159-6. He then took his fifth wicket bowling James Rounding for 3 (7 balls), 163-7. Wicket number six was Iain Critchley caught behind by James McWilliam for 0 (3 balls), 164-8.

Kurtis Watson 59no (95 balls) and Adam Sexton 0no (2 balls) saw Leyland close on 167-8 in their 50 overs.

Khalil Patel took 6-41 from 14 overs, Marcus Allen 1-24 off 7, Lewis Wellings 0-22 from 7, Dom Jackson 0-23 off 7 and Simon Kerrigan 0-50 from 15.

The visitors reply started well until disaster struck with the loss of five wickets for two runs, Andrew Jacques was brought into the attack and had an immediate effect bolwing Matt Smith for 29 (38 balls), 44-1, fellow opener James McWilliam followed lbw to Ross Bretherton for 14 (36 balls), 44-2

Number three Brendan Morris went one run later caught by Zak Willox off Ross Bretherton for 1 (8 balls), 45-3. Simon Kerrigan replaced Morris and was quickly out caught by Kurtis Watson off Andrew Jacques for 0 (5 balls), 46-4, Ross Bretherton bowled Ben Rosbottom for 1 (23 balls), 46-5. Muhammad Zaid did not bother the scorer out for 0 (7 balls), 46-6.

Ben Parkinson and Lewis Wellings were left to pick up the pieces, they took the score to 82 when they both were out, Ben Parkinson was first to go lbw to Kurtis Watson for 20 (42 balls), 82-7, Lewis Wellings followed bowled by Iain Critchley for 13 (35 balls), 82-8. Kurtis Watson accounted for Khalil Patel caught behind by Adam Sexton for 1 (11 balls), 85-9

The Fulwood & Broughton innings came to a close on 85 in 34.1 overs with Dom Jackson retired out and Marcus Allen 1no (3 balls).

The wickets were shared around the Leyland bowlers, Andrew Jacques 3-24 from 10 overs, Ross Bretherton 3-33 off 15, Kutis Watson 2-24 from 7 and Iain Critchley 1-2 off 2.1

Longridge v Garstang

Garstang won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and chose to bat first, they lost Michael Walling lbw to Jacob Proctor for 9 (11 balls), 17-1.

Imran Butt joined Tom Higson and they were going well until Tom Higson was bowled by Jacob Proctor for 38 (46 balls), 82-2. Mark Walling replaced Higson but fell early caught by Zac Christie off Gabriel Dowthwaite for 1 (13 balls), 92-3.

Jake Durnell was brought into the attack and he bowled new batsman Hugo Croft for 11 (33 balls), 118-4, Michael Wellings came in and had the same result bowled by Jake Durnell for 2 (13 balls), 112-6.

Matthew Crowther and Ian Walling were the new batsmen and moved the score along until Ian Walling was caught by Luke Platt off Alex Mason for 24 (29 balls), 158-7, Matthew Crowther fell run out by Gabriel Dowthwaite for 10 (35 balls), 163-8

Danny Gilbert and Robert Heath conintued the chase for runs, Robert Heath was out bowled by Jake Durnell for 5 (10 balls) 190-9, The Garstang innings closed on 190 all out in 49.2 overs with Danny Gilbert bowled by Jacob Proctor for 24 (21 balls) with Waris Khan 0no (1 ball).

The Garstang bowling was Jake Durnell 4-56 from 15 overs, Jacob Proctor 3-43 off 10.2, Gabriel Dowthwaite 1-17 from 9 and Alex Mason 1-65 off 15.

The hosts got off the to a brilliant start thanks to Joshua Mullin and Taariq Chiecktey with a stand of 79 broken by Danny Gilbert trapping Taariq Chiecktey lbw for 56 (47 balls), 79-1.

Luke Platt joined Mullin and they slowly moved the score along, Imran Butt was the man to make the breakthrough having Joshua Mullin caught by Danny Gilbert for 21 (82 balls), 95-2.

Zac Christie was Luke Platt's new partner but with their partnership on 33 Zac Christie was caught by Imran Butt off Tom Higson for 20 (33 balls), 128-3. That was the last success for the visitors as Rob Hollinghurst went on the attack with 48no (36 balls) and Luke Platt 40no (95 balls) saw the hosts home on 195-3 in 48.3 overs.

For Garstang Imran Butt took 1-28 from 9 overs, Tom Higson 1-42 off 15, Danny Gilbert 1-45 from 9.3, Waris Khan 0-15 off 4, Michael Walling 0-23 from 4 and Ian Walling 0-33 off 7.

Mawsdesley v Fleetwood

Mawdesley won the toss at Rectory Field and asked the visitors to bat first and were rewarded with two early wickets, Andy Drake was bowled by Joshua Adamson for 0 (2 balls), 0-1, Fellow opener Tomas King was out lbw to Joshua Unsworth for 3 (10 balls), 8-2.

Vathsal Govind and Charlie Clark were the batsmen with the task of rebuilding the innings, their partnership was going well until Neil O'Malley had Charlie Clark caught by Joshua Unsworth for 32 (59 balls), 76-3. Jeremy Davies joined Govind and continued keeping the scoreboard ticking over, The partnership was broken with Jeremy Davies caught and bowled by Dominic Hendricks for 23 (34 balls), 113-4.

Neil O'Malley struck for the hosts with two wickets, he trapped Harry McAleer lbw for 1 (4 balls), 116-5, followed by Adam Sharrocks lbw for 4 (7 balls), 122-6.

Declan Clerkin was next in and lost his partner Vathsal Govind caught by Joshua Adamson off Dominic Hendricks for 59 (97 balls), 139-7. Nathan Bend was Clerkin's new partner and they were scoring at a run a ball until Joshua Adamson had Declan Clerkin caught by Dominic Hendricks for 37 (37 balls), 205-8.

Matthew Siddall 2no (6 balls) came to the wicket and saw Nathan Bend reach his fifty with the last ball of the innings as Fleetwood closed on 222-8 in their 50 overs with Bend 50no (44 balls).

The bowling was Neil O'Malley 3-57 from 15 overs, Dominic Hendricks 2-47 off 7, Joshua Adamson 2-54 from 12, Joshua Unsworth 1-34 off 10 and Christopher Andrews 0-20 from 6.

The hosts lost both openers early on on the same score, Daniel Unsworth was bowled by Jeremy Davies for 5 (13 balls), 19-1, Ffyfe Dennis followed lbw to Declan Clerkin for 14 (16 balls), 19-2.

The two new batsmen were Christopher Andrews and Dominic Hendricks, they slowly moved the score along until Christopher Andrews was out lbw to Declan Clerkin for 5 (29 balls), 32-3.

Next in was Lee Berrie and unfortunately for the hosts was run out by Harry McAleer for 4 (12 balls), 47-4. Nathan Trengrove joined Dominic Hendricks, The departure of Dominic Hendricks lbw to Vathsal Govind for 25 (41 balls) 65-5 saw the Mawdesley innings collapse.

Nathan Trengrove was caught by Adam Sharrocks off Matthew Siddall for 9 (21 balls), 66-6, Joshua Adamson was bowled by Kian Farnworth for 2 (7 balls) 71-7, Joshua Unsworth followed on the same score lbw to Matthew Siddall for 4 (14 balls), 71-8.

Vathsal Govind closed the Mawdesley innings with wickets on consecutive balls, Lewis McKinnon was lbw for 4 (27 balls), 77-9, Neil O'Malley was caught by Andy Drake for 0 (1 ball) as Mawdesley were bowled out for 77 in 32.2 overs with Toby Ambrose 2no (14 balls).

The wickets were shared amongst the Fleetwood bowlers, Vathsal Govind 3-19 from 7.2 overs, Matthew Siddall 2-4 off 5, Declan Clerkin 2-31 from 10, Kian Farnworth 1-7 off 4 and Jeremy Davies 1-15 from 6.

Netherfield v St Annes

St Annes won the toss at Parkside Road and chose to bat first, they did not get off to a good start losing Lukman Vahaluwala caught by Riley Vernon off Samuel Medhurst for 3 (5 balls), 4-1.

Yohan De Silva came in at three but fell victim to Samuel Medhurst lbw for 11 (15 balls), 21-2, Gurman Bains joined Luke Jardine and they dug in, Oil Wileman made the breakthrough having Luke Jardine caught by Reece Irving for 13 (60 balls), 53-3.

Tom Bradley was Bains's new partner, but with only fourteen runs added Gurman Bains was bowled by Bert Medhurst for 27 (77 balls), 67-4. Will Trohear was next in and with Bradley were going well until Tom Bradley was caught by Reece Irving off Riley Vernon for 48 (65 balls), 126-5.

Will Trohear follwed soon after to the same combination Irving/Vernon for 20 (36 balls), 129-6. Ryan Birkman and Joe Hayton were scoring at a run a ball, the introduction of Matt Jackson saw the end of Ryan Birkman bowled for 15 (15 balls), 147-7.

New man in Joe Davies was out lbw to Riley Vernon for 8 (8 balls), 156-8, Matt Jackson claimed his second victim Joe Hayton caught by Ben Barrow for 14 (13 balls), 164-9.

The innings closed on 167 all out in 49.4 overs with Ashen Daluwattage caught by John Huck off Riley Vernon for 2 (4 balls) leaving James Bradley 1no (3 balls).

Riley Vernon did the damage with 4-46 from 10.4 overs supported by Samuel Medhurst 2-28 off 6, Matt Jackson 2-30 from 11, Bert Medhurst 1-17 off 4, Oli Wileman 1-32 from 13 and Josh Wills 0-13 off 5.

In reply the visitors claimed three early wickets, Bert Medhurst was out lbw to Ashen Daluwattage for 2 (8 balls), 6-1, Reece Irving followed bowled by Ashen Daluwattage for 9 (24 balls), 11-2, number three Ben Barrow was caught and bowled by Lukman Vahaluwala for 2 (17 balls), 19-3.

John Huck and Riley Vernon were the batsmen with the task of getting the innings back on course, their partnership was going well and over the hundred when Riley Vernon was caught by Ryan Birkman off Joe Davies for 54 (76 balls), 130-4, as with many big partnerships Huck followed caught by Ryan Birkman off Yohan De Silva for 64 (92 balls), 143-5

That was the last success for the visitors as Lewis Edge 23no (25 balls) and Oli Wileman 14no (17 balls) saw the hosts home on 170-5 in 43 overs.

The St Annes bowling was Ashen Daluwattage 2-26 from 8 overs, Yohan De Silva 1-33 off 8, Joe Davies 1-38 from 8, Lukman Vahaluwala 1-42 off 11 and Joe Hayton 0-30 from 8

Sunday 23rd June

Fleetwood v Kendal

Fleetwood won the toss at Broadwater in this re-arranged match and elected to bat first, Evan Williams broke the opening partnership having Andy Drake caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 6 (9 balls), 26-1.

Vathsal Govind was in at three but lost his partner Tomas King caught by Chris Miller off Evan Williams for 26 (32), 42-2. Charlie Clark was next in but was bowled by Lewis Richardson for 17 (23 balls), 67-3.

Jeremy Davies joined Govind and they took the score to 100, Chris Miller had Davies caught by Max Winskill for 17 (35 balls), 100-4, New batsman Harry McAleer became Miller's second wicket caught behind by Finley Richardson for 5 (15 balls), 114-5.

Adam Sharrocks replaced McAleer and was the next out caught by Tim Boyd off Bradley Earl for 8 (28 balls), 137-6. next in was Declan Clerkin and with Govind took the score past the 150 only to fall caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Lewis Richardson for 13 (12 balls), 155-7.

Nathan Bend came to the wicket but ten runs later he was lbw to Evan Williams for 6 (18 balls), 165-8. Vathsal Govind's innings came to an end caught by James Bowman off Lewis Richardson for 66 (106 balls), 186-9.

Matthew Siddall 13no (25 balls) and Kian Farnworth 7no (7 balls) saw the hosts close on 201-9 in their 50 overs.

Evan Williams took 3-55 from 15 overs, Lewis Richardson 3-56 0ff 12, Chris Miller 2-37 from 15 , Bradley Earl 1-22 off 4 and Max Winskill 0-26 from 4

Kendal got off to a good start in their reply reaching 37 when the first wicket fell Max Winskill stumped by Harry McAleer off Vathsal Govind for 13 (46 balls). 37-1.

James Bowman was in at three and continued to make good progess until James Bowman was caught and bowled by Matthew Siddall for 19 (39 balls), 90-2, New batsman Terry Hunte was quickly out caught by Jeremy Davis off Vathsal Govind for 0 (3 balls), 91-3.

Bradley Earl joined Williams and they took the score past the hundred but disaster struck losing three wickets for five runs, Bradley Earl was the first to go caught by Declan Clerkin for 8 (13 balls) 105-4, then the prize wicket of Evan Williams bowled by Declan Clerkin for 59 (100 balls), 109-5. one run later Declan Clerkin bowled Finlay Richardson for 0 (3 balls), 110-6.

Kendal were now fighting a rearguard action with Lewis Richardson and Tim Boyd leading the way, Matthew Siddall broke their partnership having Lewis Richardson caught by Vathsal Govind for 13 (26 balls), 127-7.

Tim Boyd and Arathay Jayapal were battling away and there were only four overs remaining when Tim Boyd was caught by Adam Sharrocks off Matthew Siddall for 10 (32 balls), 139-8., diaster struck for the visitors in the next over Arathay Jayapay was caught by Kian Farnworth off Vathsal Govind for 3 (24 balls), 139-9.

We were now into the last over and with the fifth ball of the over Chris Miller was caught by Adam Sharrocks off Vathsal Govind for 0 (10 balls) as Fleetwood claimed victory with Kendal 145 all out in 49.5 overs with Paul Dodds 1no (8 balls).

Vathsal Govind 4-33 from 13.5 overs and Matthew Siddall 4-37 off 14 were the main wicket takers with Declan Clerkin 2-45 from 14 and Jeremy Davies 0-17 off 8.
