The Northern Cricket League Review

The tenth round of matches in the Northern Premier League 2024 season saw Fleetwood win at Blackpool and extend their lead at the top

Leyland's winning draw against Chorley see them leapfrog the Windsor Park side into second

Kendal beat Mawdesley, Longridge beat St Annes and Netherfield had a winning draw over Fulwood & Broughton with the Euxton v Settle abandoned without a ball being bowled.

DIVISION ONE:

Blackpool v Fleetwood

Blackpool won the toss at Stanley Park and elected to bat first, Kasin Munir and Rashit Sharma opened, Declan Clerkin drew first blood having Rishit Sharma caught by Vathsal Govind for 10 (13 balls), 13-1

Shivam Chaudhary was in at three and with Kasim Munir took the score past the fifty, Matthew Siddall broke the partnership, Kasim Munir was caught and bowled for 14 (56 balls), 52-2, Jeremy Davies was introduced into the attack and in his second over bowled Shivam Chaudhary for 24 (53 balls), 56-3.

Andrew Needham and Josh Boyne were the new batsmen and taken the total past the hundred when Matthew Siddall had Andrew Needham caught by Declan Clerkin for 22 (52 balls), 108-4.

Jake Muncaster replaced Needham and suopported Josh Boyne in keeping the scoreboard ticking over, Vathsal Govind was the one to break the partnership with Jake Muncaster caught by Declan Clerkin for 14 (34 balls) 152-5.

Josh Boyne 86no (85 balls) (12x4) and Ben Howarth 8no (7 balls) saw the hosts close on 193-5 in their 50 overs.

For Fleetwood Matthew Siddall took 2-37 from 15 overs, Declan Clerkin 1-21 off 12, Jeremy Davies 1-50 from 10, Vathsal Govind 1-63 off 11 and Kian Farnworth 0-9 from 2

Tomas King and Jeremy Davies opened with a stand of 60 with King leading the way, Jeremy Davies was first to go caught by Harry Birkman off Josh Boyne for 6 (52 balls), 60-1.

Joseph Davies was in next but was soon out bowled by Shivam Chaudhary for 0 (10 balls), 71-2. Vathsal Govind was the new batsman but lost his partner Tomas King run out by Matthew Grindley for 63 (68 balls), 78-3

Andy Drake replaced King but soon became Josh Boyne's second victim lbw for 4 (16 balls), 91-4. Charlie Clark came in and took the score past the hundred but was then stumped by Ben Howarth off Matthew Grindley for 4 (12 balls), 104-5.

Vathsal Govind was joined by Declan Clerkin, Arram Lewin btoke the partnership having Declan Clerkin caught by Kasim Munir for 10 (26 balls), 127-6,

The game could go either way when Nathan Bend came to the wicket, he was scoring at a run a ball supporting Vathsal Govind, Govind gave the visitors victory with three consectutive fours as Fleetwood closed on 197-6 in 49.3 overs, Vathsal Govind was 62no (78 balls) and Nathan Bend 35no (35 balls).

The Blackpool bowling was Josh Boyne 2-19 from 8 overs, Arran Lewin 1-30 off 5, Matthew Grindley 1-35 from 15, Shivam Chaudhary 1-50 off 9.3 and Harry Birkman 0-49 from 12.

Euxton v Settle

The match was abandoned wiithout a ball being bowled

Leyland v Chorley

Leyland won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and chose to bat first, the hosts innings was going well until broken by James Dunn with two wickets in two balls, He bowled James Critchley for 21 (35 balls), 41-1, next ball he had Lloyd Tennant caught by Will Moulton for 0, 41-2.

Kurtis Watson joined Karl Cross and their partnership was past the hundred when James Dunn claimed his third wicket Kurtis Watson caught by Marques Ackerman for 66 (75 balls), 152-3.

Ross Bretherton was next in and continued the good work. Matt Dawson made the breakthrough having Karl Cross caught by James Dunn for 91 (118 balls) (13x4), 195-4.

Jacob Wright 19no (24 balls) replaced Cross and with Ross Bretherton 35no (48 balls) saw Leyland close on 240-4 in their 50 overs.

James Dunn took 3-50 from 13 overs, Matt Dawson 1-52 off 10, James Lee 0-18 from 4, Will Moulton 0-25 off 5, Edwin Moulton 0-33 from 9 and Marques Ackerman 0-56 off 9.

The Chorley reply got off to a disastrous start losing three quick wickets, Will Moulton was out first ball caught by Lloyd Tennant off Ross Bretherton for 0, 0-1, Ross Bretherton accounted for Kieran Yould caught behind by Adam Sexton for 2 (23 balls), 5-2, new batsman Sunny John soon followed caught behind by Adam Sexton off Kurtis Watson for 2 (10 balls), 5-3.

Marques Ackerman and Zayn Wadiwala was the batsmen with the task of rebuilding the innings, the introduction of Will Smith into the attack had immediate results, Zayn Wadiwala caught and bowled for 21 (56 balls), 99-4.

Disaster struck for the visitors losing two wickets on 100, one being Marques Ackerman, Edwin Moulton was the first to go caught behind by Adam Sexton off Andrew Jacques for 0 (4 balls), 100-5, then the prize wicket of Marques Ackerman caught by Jacob Wright off Will Smith for 73 (56 balls), 100-6

Ben Simpkins and Joseph Tiffin were the new batsmen, Will Smith claimed his third wicket Ben Simpkins caught behind by Adam Sexton for 2 (11 balls), 111-7.

James Dunn joined Joaeph Tiffin and the dug in and kept the scoreboard ticking over and fighting not to stay in the game, Ross Bretherton broke the partnership having James Dunn lbw for 16 (35 balls), 167-8.

James Lee was next in and continued the fight until he was bowled by Andrew Jacques for 7 (25 balls), 177-9. Number eleven Matt Dawson 0no (5 balls) and Joseph Tiffin 50no (80 balls) saw the vistors close on 177-9 in their 50 overs.

Ross Bretherton took 3-35 from 10 overs, Will Smith 3-39 off 8, Andrew Jacques 2-31 from 12, Kurtis Watson 1-26 off 12 and Iain Critchley 0-44 from 8.

Longridge v St Annes

Longridge won the toss at theNewsham Memorial ground and decided to bat first, Lukman Vahaluwala struck removing both openers, He had Taariq Chiecktey caught by Yohan De Silva for 0 (3 balls), 0-1. Joshua Mullin follwed caught behnd by James Bradley for2 (13 balls), 14-2.

Luke Platt and Zac Christie began the job of rebuilding the innings, they were going well until Mitch Bolus claimed two wickets in three balls, firstly Luke Platt lbw for 31 (54 balls), 63-3, two balls later Zach Proctor was caught behind by James Bradley for 0 (2 balls), 63-4.

The hosts were in further trouble with Zac Christie run out by Luke Jardine for 20 (45 balls), 67-5, Alex Mason and Tom Turner slowley moved the score along, Yohan De Silva broke their partnership bowling Alex Mason for 12 (42 balls), 91-6.

New man in was Henry Proctor, disater struck for the hosts losing three wickets with the total on 103, Tom Turner was bowled by Mitch Bolus for 23 (48 balls), 103-7, Henry Proctor was next caught by Luke Jardine off Yohan De Sivla for 3 (29 balls), 103-8, Mitch Bolus trapped Gabriel Dowthwaite lbw for 0 (3 balls), 103-9.

The Longridge innings losed on 120 all out in 47.1 overs with Lukman Vahaluwala bowling Jake Durnell for 11 (25 balls) with Jacob Proctor 5no (24 balls).

The bowling figures were Mitch Bolus 4-33 from 15 overs, Lukman Vahaluwala 3-38 off 13.1, Yohan De Silva 2-20 from 15 and Tom Bradley 0-19 off 4.

Lukman Vahaluwala and Luke Jardine opened, Luke Jardine was the first to go bowled by Jacob Proctor for 5 (5 balls), 19-1, Nathan Bolus came in at three but lost two partners with the score on 29, opener Lukman Vahaluwala was caught by Luke Platt off Alex Mason for 20 (17 balls), 29-2. Mason then bowled Yohan De Silva for 0 (3 balls), 29-3.

Gurman Baines was the new man but quickly fell bowled by Jacob Proctor for 2 (9 balls), 32-4. Mitch Bolus replaced Baines and with Natan Bolus moved the score along slowly, the introduction of Jake Durnell paid dividends,he bowled Nathan Bolus for 16 (39 balls), 49-5.

The problems for the visitors increased with the loss of three wickets for two runs, Ryan Birkman was out lbw to Jake Durnell for 9 (24 balls), 59-6, Alex Mason bowled Mitch Bolus for 6 (37 balls), 59-7. Jake Durnell one run later bowled Ashen Dalauwattage for 1 (7 balls), 60-8.

James Bradley joined Tom Bradley and they fought to save the game, unfortunately for the visitors James Bradley was run out by Zac Christie for 8 (55 balls). 94-9.

The St Annes ened on 97 all out in 41.1 overs with Tom Bradley caught by Taariq Chiecktey off Jake Durnell for 18 (51 balls) and Kyle Costin was 0no (1 ball).

The Longridge bowling was Jake Durnell 4-22 from 13.1 overs, Alex Mason 3-20 off 15, Jacob Proctor 2-27 from 7, Gabriel Dowthwaite 0-7 off 5 and Zach Proctor 0-10 from 1.

Mawdesley v Kendal

Kendal won the toss at Rectory Field and put the hosts into bat, Sam Sharp broke the opening partnership, Ffyfe Dennis caught by Chris Miller for 11 (20 balls), 19-1.

Dominic Hendricks was in at three, Kuldeep Singh put the hosts in trouble with two wickets in two balls, he bowled Daniel Unsworth for 11 (46 balls), 37-3, next ball he bowled new batsman Ben Munslow for 0, 37-3.

Sam Sharp then trapped Dominic Hendricks lbw for 8 (31 balls), 39-4, Christopher Andrews and Lee Berrie began the fight back until Lee Berrie was caught and bowled by Chris Miller for 17 (36 balls), 67-5.

The hosts tail collapsed as the last five wickets fell for 3 runs, Louis Backhouse was the destroyer, he had Nathan Trengrove lbw for 0 (2 balls), 73-6, Lewis McKinnon went next ball caught behind by Finlay Richardson for 0, 73-7, Christopher Andrews was caught by Chris Miller for 8 (46 balls). 75-8.

He finished off the innings with two wickets in the over, Toby Ambrose out lbw for 0 (7 balls), 76-9 Joshua Adamson followed the same fate lbw for 0 (4 balls) as Mawdesley were bowled out for 76 in 33 overs with Joshua Unsworth ono (7 balls).

Louis Backhouse took 5-7 from 6 overs, Kuldeep Singh 2-10 off 9, Sam Sharp 2-34 from 11 and Chris Miller -17 off 7.

The Kendal reply looked to be going well until both openers went with the score on 24, Evam Williams was bowled by Joshua Unsworth for 4 (13 balls), 24-1, Freddie Fallows followed lbw for 19 (16 balls), 24-2.

James Bowman and Sam Dutton steadily moved the score towards victory until Daniel Unsworth had James Bowman lbw for 11 (40 balls), 69-3. Bradley Earl 6no (6 balls) and Sam Dutton 33no (46 balls) saw the visitors home on 79-3 in 20.1 overs.

The Mawdesley bowling was Daniel Unsworth 1-10 from 3.1 overs, Joshua Adamson 1-31 off 10 and Joshua Unsworth 1-34 from 7.

Netherfield v Fulwood & Broughton

Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at Parkside Road and asked the hosts to bat first, Chris Brookes gave the visitors a good start bowling Josh Dixon for 0 (8 balls), 1-1.

Ben Barrow joined Reece Irving and they were approaching the hundred partnership when Reece Irving was caught behind by James McWilliam off Lewis Wellings for 56 (96 balls), 99-2, five runs later he had Ben Barrow caught by Brendan Morris for 44 (84 balls), 104-3.

John Huck and new partner Riley Vernon moved the score along quickly, their partnership was broken with Riley Vernon run out by Brendan Morris for 36 (35 balls), 172-4, John Huck followed soon after also run out (Ben Rosbottom) for 36 (41 balls), 174-5.

Moving into the last five overs the wickets fell, Will Beeden was caught by James Lupton off Lewis Wellings for 19 (21 balls), 210-6, Lewis Wellings claimed wicket number four Oli Wileman caught behind by James McWilliam for 5 (3 balls), 216-7.

Samuel Medhurst was run out for 1 (1 ball) on the last ball of their 50 overs as Netherfield colsed on 217-8, Lewis Edge was 18no (12 balls).

The Fulwood & Broughton bowling figures were Lewis Wellings 4-63 from 12 overs, Chris Brookes 1-15 off 10, Dom Jackson 0-28 from 4, Brendan Morris 0-53 off 9 and Khalil Patel 0-57 from 15.

The visitors got off to a disastrous start losing three early wickets, Mark Smith was out with the second ball of the match lbw to Josh Wills for 0 (2 balls), 0-1, Brendan Morris was caught behind by Lewis Edge off Samuel Medhurst for 0 (5 balls), 1-2. Samuel Medhurst then bowled Ben Parkinson for 3 (21 balls), 12-3.

Ben Rosbottom and James McWilliam had the task of turning the game around, their stand was broken by Matt Jackson having James McWilliam caught by Josh Dixon for 14 (23 balls), 41-4, Muhammad Zaid continued the fight until he was caught by John Huck off Oli Wileman for 19 (30 balls).74-5

Lewis Wellings was next in but soon fell bowled by Riley Vernon for 0 (9 balls), 81-6. Khalil Patel joined Ben Rosbottom and they took the score past the hundred only for Khalil Patel to be caught by Oli Wileman off Riley Vernon for 7 (22 balls), 105-7.

Ben Rosbottom's fighting innings came to an end bowled by Samuel Medhurst for 84 (143 balls) (12 x4), there were five overs remainging but James Lupton 43no (35 balls) and Dom Jackson 2no (15 balls) saw the visitors close on 183-9 in their 50 overs.

Each of the Netherfield bowlers took a wicket lead by Samuel Medhurst with 3-31 from 10 overs, Riley Vernon 2-72 off 11, Josh Wills 1-22 from 9, Matt Jackson 1-23 off 7, Oli Wileman 1-32 from 13.
