The Northern Cricket League Review
Round 8 of the Northern Premier League saw Tom Higson's brutal assault on the Longridge attack could not stop the leaders on their winning ways, there were also wins for Chorley, Fulwood & Broughton, Kendal and Leyland with Blackpool having a winning draw at Netherfield.
Eccleston (Chorley) v Chorley
Chorley won the toss at Doctors Lane and chose to bat first, Kyle Dixon and Alfie Dobson opened and gave the vistiors a brilliant start, with 95 on the baord Kyle Dixon was out caught by Reece Thomas off Thomas Foster for 31 (44 balls), 95-1
Roshen Silva joined Alfie Dobson and they took control of the innings, their partnership was was 133 broken by Thomas Wilkinson bowling Alfie Dobson for 143 (136 balls)(17x4, 1x6), 228-2, Joshua Pistorius was in next and continued the run rate until Thomas Wilkinson claimed his second wicket bowling Pistorius for 14 (13 balls), 262-3
Zayn Wadilwala came in next and with only a few overs left Roshen Silva fell caught by Cameron Smith off Reece Thomas for 77 (94 balls), 270-4, Wadilwala followed soon afterwards run out in the last over for 6 (7 balls), 277-5
Edwin Moulton 7no (3 balls) and James Dunn 0no (1 ball) saw the vistors close on 284-5 in their 50 overs
The Eccleston (Chorley) bowling was Thomas Wilkinson 2-73 from 14 overs, Reece Thomas 1-47 off 8, Thomas Foster 1-57 from 9, Nick Fowler 0-25 off 4 and Cameron Smith 0-35 from 5
Adam Norris and Martyn James Brierley opened but with only seventeen runs on the board Martyn James Brierley was caught behind by Andrew Holdsworth off Edwin Moulton for 8 (18 balls), 17-1
Thomas Foster came in at three and with Adam Norris were were making steady progress until Thomas Foster was caught behind by Andrew Holdsworth off James Dunn for 22 (20 balls), 56-2. New batsman David Hewson was quickly out caught by Kyle Dixon off Joshua Pistorius for 4 (4 balls), 61-3
Disaster struck for the hosts with the loss of two wickets to James Dunn with the total on 69, Thomas Wilkinson was caught by Joshua Pistorius for 8 (13 balls), 69-4 and two balls later Arnold Baxendale was caught behind by Andrew Holdsworth for 0 (2 balls), 69-5
Adam Norris had watched the collapse at the other end and saw his next partner Michael Atkinson out after facing only four balls caught by Andrew Holdsworth off Joshua Pistorius for 3, 72-6, Adam Norris's battle came to and end lbw to James Dunn for 27 (50 balls), 80-7
Jordan Bentham replaced Norris, Joshua Pistorius claimed his third wicket bowling Bentham for 2 (5 balls), 85-8. Reece Thomas and Nick Fowler fought back with a partnership of 49 broken by Sam Steeple having Nick Fowler caught behind by Andrew Holdsworth (his fith victim) for 11 (26 balls), 134-9
The hosts inning closed four runs later on 138 all out in 28.2 overs with Ian Oakes having Reece Thomas caught by James Dunn for 49 (30 balls) with Cameron Smith 0no
James Dunn took 4-30 from 6 overs, Joshua Pistorius 3-20 off 6, Ian Oakes 1-13 from 2.2, Edwin Moulton 1-26 off 6, Sam Steeple 1-26 from 3 and James Lee 0-21 off 5
Fleetwood v Kendal
Kendal won the toss at Broadwater and elected to bat first, Freddie Fallows and Darren Nightingale opened but were soon parted with Freddie Fallows caught by Adam Sharrocks off Tiaan Van Vuuren for 6 (4 balls), 6-1, coming in at three was Max Winskill, he lost his partner Darren Nightingale bowled by Tiaan Van Vuuren for 3 (17 balls), 15-2
The visitors innings soon got worse with Tiaan Van Vuuren taking two wickets in one over, Finlay Richardson was caught behind by Harry McAleer for 4 (8 balls), 25-3, two balls later Bradley Earl was bowled for 0 (2 balls) 25-4
Sam Fletcher joined Max Winskill and they dug in to rebuild the innings but with their partnership on 50 Max Winskill was bowled by Rizwan Patel for 34 (79 balls), 75-5, the new batsman was Lewis Richardson and he continued were Winskill left off, twenty five runs had been added to the total when Tiaan Van Vuuren claimed his fifth victim bowling Sam Fletcher for 26 (64 balls), 100-6
Chris Miller was Lewis Richardson's new partner and they put the visitors in a position to set a total they could defend, their partnership of 81 was broken by Jack Wilkinson having Lewis Richardson caught behind by Harry McAleer for 64 (47 balls), 181-7
Toby Tyson was the new batsman and supporting his partner, Chris Miller was next out bowled by Jack Wilkinson for 53 (64 balls), 212-8, The incoming batsman Kuldeep Singh 5no (4 balls) with Toby Tyson 13no (14 balls) saw Kendal close on 220-8 in their 50 overs
For Fleetwood Tiaan Van Vuuren took 5-79 from 15 overs, Jack Wilkinson 2-69 off 15, Rizwan Patel 1-31 from 15 and George McAleer 0-32 off 5
William Haddow and Andy Drake were the host openers and made steady progress until they both were out with the score on 35, Andy Drake was out first bowled by Freddie Fallows for 18 (27 balls), 35-1, next William Haddow was bowled by Chris Miller for 13 (45 balls), 35-2
The two new batsmen were Harry McAleer and Tiaan Van Vuuren and they were making good progress until Freddie Fallows trapped Harry McAleer lbw for 17 (35 balls), 69-3, Charlie Clark became Chris Miller's next victim bowled for 14 (19 balls) 91-4
Disater struck for the hosts losing four wickets with the total on 96, Freddie Fallows had Adam Sharrocks caught by Bradley Earl for 1 (3 balls) 96-5, next ball he had Wayne Clarke caught by Chris Miller for 0 (1 ball), 96-6, to complete the disaster Tiaan Van Vuuren was caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Chris Miller for 18 (38 balls), 96-7
Rizwan Patel was the fourth man out on 96 caught by Bradley Earl off Chris Miller for 0 (5 balls), 96-8, Joseph Warwick and Jack Wilkinson tried to stem the tide but both were out to Chris Miller giving him wickets five and six, Joseph Warwick was caught by Lewis Richardson for 15 (30 balls), 117-9 and one run later Jack Wilkinson was also caught Lewis Richardson for 7 (28 balls) as Fleetwood were 118 all out in 38.4 overs with George McAleer 0no (3 balls)

Fulwood & Broughton v Garstang
Garstang won the toss at the Highfield ground and decided to bat first, Openers Michael Walling and Luke Smith gave them a brilliant start with a partnership of 104 broken by Hareen Buddila having Luke Smith caught behind by James McWilliam for 35 (64 balls), 104-1
Matthew Crowther came in at three but with only six runs added Simon Kerrigan struck with two wickets, he had Michael Walling caught by Ben Parkinson for 68 (85 balls), 110-2, incoming batsman Mark Walling fell to him caught and bowled for 0 (2 balls), 110-3
Ryan Pearson and Hugo Croft were the new batsmen and both went cheaply, Ryan Pearson was caught behind by James McWilliam off James Lupton for 1 (5 balls) 115-4. Hugo Croft was also caught behind by James McWilliam but off Simon Kerrigan for 1 (2 balls), 118-5
James Lupton struck again bowling Ashton Charles for 0 (5 balls), 119-6. Danny Gilbert joined Matthew Crowther and they knuckled down and took the score passed the 150, Hareen Buddila broke the partnership having Danny Gilbert caught by Dom Jackson for 18 (39 balls), 153-7
Ian Walling was Crowther's new partner and Hareen Buddila was once again made the break through, Ian Walling was caught by Ben Parkinson for 13 (15 balls), 177-8. Matthew Crowther's fighting innings came to a close caught by Dom Jackson off Simon Kerrigan for 21 (61 balls), 179-9
The Garstang innings came to a close on 180 all out in 47.1 overs with Hareen Buddila bowling Waris Khan for 1 (4 balls) with Joel Anthony Derham 2no (5 balls),
The Fulwood & Broughton figures were Simon Kerrigan 4-28 from 11 overs, Hareen Buddila 4-48 off 12.1, James Lupton 2-13 from 5, Chris Brookes 0-23 off 4, Dom Jackson 0-25 from 5 and Jon Fenton 0-28 off 10
The Fulwood & Broughton reply got off to a terrible start losing Richard Turner caught behind by Matthew Crowther off Waris Khan for 0 (4 balls), 0-1, Ben Parkinson was in at three but was qucikly out caught by Michael Walling off Ian Walling for 1 (2 balls), 1-2
Simon Kerrigan joined Jon Fenton and they began to rebuild the innings, the score was 39 and Jon Fenton was caught by Ashton Charles off Ian Walling for 13 (63 balls), 39-3, next in was Hareen Buddila and with Kerrigan were appraoching the hundred when once again Ian Walling struck having Hareen Buddila caught by Joel Anthony Derham for 29 (53 balls), 97-4
Muhammad Zaid was the new batsman who became Ian Wallings fourth victim bowled for 7 (22 balls), 115-5. James McWilliam became Simon Kerrigan's new partner and they looked to be steering the hosts to victory until they lost two quick wickets, Ian Walling claimed his fifth wicket James McWilliam caught by Danny Gilbert for 13 (21 balls), 163-6
With one run had been added they took the prize wicket of Simon Kerrigan run out by Ashton Charles for 93 (133 balls),164-7, Lewis Wellings and Dom Jackson were the two new batsmen and were within three runs of victory when Ian Walling had Lewis Wellings caught behind by Matthew Crowther for 4 (4 balls), 178-8
James Lupton 1no (1 ball) joined Dom Jackson 11no (10 balls) and they saw the hosts cross the line on 181 -8 in 51.4 overs
Ian Walling took 6-49 from 16 overs, Waris Khan 1-28 off 12.4, Danny Gilbert 0-38 from 10 and Joel Anthony Derham 0-60 off 13
Leyland v Penrith
Leyland won the toss at the Stanning Memorial ground and decided to bat first, Jacob Wright and James Rounding opened for the hosts and were soon parted, Jacob Wright was caught behind by Alister Craig off James Ellis for 4 (4 balls), 5-1
The Leyland number three was Zak Willox, he lost his partner James Rounding caught behind by Alister Craig off James Bowman for 3 (4 balls), 27-2, Kurtis Watson was next in but on reaching 7 (11 balls) he was caught behind by Alister Craig off James Ellis, 40-3
James Critchley was Zak Willox's next partner. disaster struck for the hosts losing two wickets with the score on 67, Zak Willox was caught by Nicky Burns off James Ellis for 46 (32 balls), 67-4, Ellis then claimed his fourth wicket Karl Cross caught by Ben Ellis for 0 (2 balls), 67-5
Andrew Makinson came to the wicket and dug in but lost James Critchley who became James Ellis's fifth victim caught behind by Alister Craig for 20 (25 balls), 87-6, Adam Sexton was next in and battled away but was next out caught by Harsha Vithana off Greg Cameron for 7 (40 balls), 103-7
Iain Critchley was Makinson's next partner but lost Andrew Makinson caught by James Bowman bowled Harsha Vithana for 23 (54 balls), 117-8, Kerwin Mungroo was in at 10, James Ellis claimed his sxth wicket bowling Krewin Mungroo for 2 (12 balls), 122-9
James Bowman closed the Leyland innings on 149 all out in 37.5 overs bowling Iain Critchley for 30 (33 balls), with Andrew Jacques 3no (10 balls).
James Ellis took 6-57 from 12 overs, James Bowman 2-38 off 4.5, Harsha Vithana 1-25 from 13 and Greg Cameron 1-28 off 8
The Penrith opening pair were James Bowman and Eddie Robson their partnership was going well until James Bowman was caught behind by Adam Sexton of Andrew Jacques for 21 (38 balls), 36-1. One run had been added when they lost two wickets, new batsman Harsha Vithana was caught by Kurtis Watson off Iain Critchley for 1 (6 balls), 37-2
Andrew Jacques claimed his second wicket Eddie Robson caught by James Critchley for 4 (37 balls), 37-3. Ollie Greenwood and Greg Cameron were the two new batsmen, five runs on and history repeated itself, two wickets fell, Greg Cameron was caught by Kurtis Watson off Iain Critchley for 4 (5 balls), 42-4. incoming batsman Nicky Burns was out first ball to the same combination caught Watson bowled Critchley for 0, 42-6
Alister Craig joined Oliie Greenwood and they fought to save the game, Kurtis Watson broke the partnership Ollie Greenwood caught by Kerwin Mungroo for 13 (49 balls), 64-6. Things did not improve for the visitors as they lost their last four wickets for 12 runs
Kurtis Watson did the damage taking three wickets, first Owen Jones caught by Iain Critchley for 5 (9 balls), 70-7, next Alister Criag's fighting innings came to an end lbw to Iain Critchley for 8 (50 balls), 74-8. one run later James Ellis was caught by James Rounding off Kurtis Watson for 1 (4 balls) 75-9. Finally Kurtis Watson bowled Ben Ellis for 3 (21 balls) as Penrith were bowled out for 76 in 37 overs with Ben Johnston 1no (3 balls).
The Leyland bowling figures were Iain Critchley 2-12 from 13 overs, Kurtis Watson 4-33 off 11, Andrew Jacques 2-12 from 10 and Kerwin Mungroo 0-9 off 3.
Longridge v St Annes
Longridge won the toss at the Newsham Memorial ground and elected to bat first, James Whitehead and Joshua Mullin gave them a good start broken with Joshua Mullin caught by Tom Higson off Alex McGloughlin for 29 (48 balls), 50-1.
Matthew De Villiers was the host number three, he lost his partner James Whitehead caught by Luke Jardine off Tom Higson for 19 (44 balls), 61-2. Zac Christie was the new batsman and supported De Villiers until he was trapped lbw by Yohan De Silva for 12 (25 balls), 93-3.
Luke Platt replaced Christie and the scoreboard was ticking over nicely, The visitors had some success taking two quick wickets, Luke Platt fell lbw to Tom Higson for 17 (36 balls), 136-4, new batsman Zach Proctor was bowled by Yohan De Silva for 0 (7 balls), 137-5
Tom Turner joined Matthew De Villiers and they took control, Matthew De Villiers reached his century and was out on the last ball of the innings hit wicket off Mitch Bolus for 110 (96 balls) as the hosts closed on 252-6 in their 50 overs with Tom Turner 53no (50 balls).
Tom Higson took 2-51 from 15 overs, Yohan De Silva 2-54 off 13, Alec McGloughlin 1-34 from 8, Mitch Bolus 1-49 off 6, Lukman Vahaluwala 0-7 from 1 and Harry Birkman 0-53 off 7
Tom Higson and Yohan De Silva were the St Annes openers, Tom Higson set about the Longridge attack and destroyed it, the opening partnership was 156 ending with Zac Proctor bowling Tom Higson for 111, he hit 96 runs in bounderies 9x4 and 10 x6 in 52 balls, 156-1
The St Annes highs of the Higson innings were quickly forgotten by the loss three wickets on 166, Luke Jardine had come in at three and was bowled by Caleb Bradford for 1 (18 balls), 166-2, incoming batsman Lukman Vahaluwala was out first ball caught by Matthew De Villiers off Caleb Bradford for 0, 166-3
There was disaster for the vivtors with the loss of Yohan De Silva caught behind by Tom Turner off Jake Durnell for 45 (68 balls), 166-4, Nathan Bolus and Alec McGloughlin were the two new batsmen, McGloughlin however was soon out caught by Luke Platt off Caleb Bradford for 4 (14 balls), 173-5
Harry Birkman came to the wicket but lost his partner Nathan Bolus bowled by Jake Durnell for 11 (21 balls), 189-6, Nathan Armstrong was the new man in but three runs later he was bowled by Jonathan Millward for 1 (2 balls), 192-7
Jake Durnell claimed his third victim Harry Birkman caught by James Wihtehead for 6 (12 balls), 192-8, Mitch Bolus and Ryan Birkman were the new batsmen and both fell to Jonathan Millward, Ryan Birkman was out first caught by Zac Christie for 5 (6 balls), 197-9, followed by Mitch Bolus caught by Luke Platt for 6 (11 balls) as St Annes were bowled out for 204 in 34.5 overs
The Longridge bowling figures were Jake Durnell 3-35 form 15 overs, Caleb Bradford 3-38 off 5, Jonathan Millward 3043 from 7.5, Zach Proctor 1-56 off 5 and Matthew De Villiers 0-22 from 2
Netherfield v Blackpool
Blackpool won the toss at Parkside Road and chose to bat first, Jake Muncaster and Ali Munir opened with a stand of 30 broken with Jake Muncaster caught by Harry Lee off Samuel Medhurst for 23 (48 balls), 30-1.
Shivam Chaudhary was the Blackpool number three and the partnership with Ali Munir was 50 came to an end with Ali Munir caught by Oli Wileman off Sagar Udeshi for 25 (66 balls), 80-2, Josh Boyne replaced Munir and with Chaudhary looked in complete control until Boyne was run out by Samuel Medhurst for 69 (74 balls), 214-3
The incoming batsman was Dylan Henshall, he continued were Boyne had left off, The Blackpool innings closed with Shivam Chaudhary caught behind by Will Beeden off Samuel Medhurst for 110 (107 balls) as the visitors closed on 256-4 in their 50 overs with Dylan Henshall 19no (10 balls).

Josh Dixon and Ben Barrow were the Netherfield openers, upon reaching 29 Ben Barrow was bowled by William Vause for 5 (22 balls),29-1. The incoming batsman was Reece Irving but with only three runs added to the total Josh Dixon was bowled Izatullah Stankzi for 19 (47 balls), 32-2
Sagar Udeshi was next in, he lost his partner Reece Irving bowled by Shivam Chaudhary for 2 (11 balls), 36-3, New man in Aryan Varsani was out first ball caught by Josh Boyne off Shivam Chaudhary for 0, 36-4
Josh Charles joined Sagar Udeshi and they dug in to try and save the game, Their psrtnership was broken with Sagar Udeshi out caught by Shivam Chaudhary off Steven Mercer for 11 (40 balls), 57-6. Will Beeden took over but on reaching 11 (13 balls) he was trapped lbw by Josh Boyne, 69-6
Oli Wileman came in hit a four and then was caught by Shivam Chaudhary off Josh Boybe for 4 (3 balls), 73-7. Harry Lee was Josh Charles' new partner and they fought to keep the game alive, their partnership was approaching 50 when Izatullah Stankzai had Josh Charles lbw for 31 (89 balls),124-8
Samuel Medhurst joined Lee and continued to fight on, Harry Lee's scoring shots were mainly fours and he was next out bowled by Shivam Chaudhary for 42 (48 balls) (9x4), 146-9. Matt Jackson 0no (2 balls) was in at eleven and with Samuel Medhurst 5no (26 balls) saw hosts close on 150-9 in their 50 overs gainng a losing draw
