The Northern Cricket League Review
Round 7 of the Northern Premier League saw leaders Longridge continue on their winning ways, there were also wins for Blackpool, Chorley, Fleetwood, Garstang and Leyland.
Chorley v St Annes
St Annes won the toss at Windsor Park and invited the hosts to bat first, Will Moulton and Alfie Dobson opened, Their partnrtship was 26 and broken by Alec McGloughlan trapping Will Moulton lbw for 5 (19 balls), 26-1
Number three was Roshen Silva who quickly became McGloughlan's second victim caught behind by James Bradley for 2 (10 balls), 36-2, next in was Joshua Pistorius who fell to the same combination, caught behind by James Bradley bowled Alec McGloughlan for 0, 37-3
Chorley suffered a further blow with Alfie Dobson retiring hurt for 23no (28 balls), Zayn Wadiwala and Edwin Moulton were the new batsmen and they steadily moved the score along, Lukman Vahaluwala was the man to break the partnership having Zayn Wadiwala caught by Nathan Armstrong for 33 (47 balls), 116-4
With only one run had added Lukman Vahaluwala bowled Edwin Moulton for 41 (67 balls), 117-5, Harry Barclay and Andrew Holdsworth took over and were going very nicely until once again Lukman Vahaulwala struck taking two wickets, he had Andrew Holdsworth caught by Harry Birkman for 39 (51 balls), 189-6, he then bowled James Dunn for 0 (2 balls) 189-7
James Lee joined Harry Barclay and they took the score past the two hundred, Lukman Vahaluwala claimed his fifth wicket bowling James Lee for 3 (11 balls), 211-8. Last man in Ian Oakes 1no (1 ball) and Harry Barclay 47no (70 balls) saw the hosts close on 220-8 in their 50 overs
Lukman Vahaluwala took 5-60 from 15 overs, Alex McGloughlan 3-42 off 7, Harry Birkman 0-14 from 6, Yohan De Silva 0-23 off 4, Mitch Bolus 0-28 from 4, and Tom Higson 0-38 off 14
Tom Higson and Yohan De Silva opened for the visitors, their partnership was broken by Will Moulton having Tom Higson caught by Andrew Holdsworth for 9 (14 balls), 21-1, Luke Jardine came in at number three but was bowled by James Lee for 4 (5 balls), 47-2
Will Moulton struck for the hosts with two quick wickets, bowling new batsman Lukman Vahaluwala 5 (11 balls), 54-3, he then had Nathan Bolus caught by Andrew Holdsworth for 0 (2 balls), 68-4. Alex McGloughlan joined De Silva and they were moving the score along until Alec McGloughlan was run out by Roshen Silva for 32 (44 balls), 116-5
Nathan Armstrong came in next and carried on the progress being made, the partnership was broken by Joshua Pistorius trapping Nathan Armstrong lbw for 19 (36 balls), 159-6, Harry Birkman was De Silva's new partner, Ian Oakes struck for the hosts bowling Birkman for 6 (8 balls), 170-7
James Bradley joined De Silva, Ian Oakes swung the match in the hosts favour with two wickets, He had James Bradley caught by Edwin Moulton for 12 (20 balls), 196-8, Ryan Birkman was bowled for 1 (7 balls), 198-9
Victory was claimed by the hosts with James Lee bowling Yohan De Silva for 111 (141 balls) (16x4) as the vistors were 204 all out in 48.4 overs. Mitch Bolus was 2no (4 balls)
The Chorley bowling was Will Moulton 3-29 from 8 overs, Ian Oakes 3-58 off 13, James Lee 2-37 from 9.4, Joshua Pistorius 1-47 off 15 and James Dunn 0-30 off 3
Eccleston (Chorley) v Fleetwood
Eccleston (Chorley) won the toss and chose to bat first, Adam Norris and Martyn James Brierley opened and gave them a good start of 54 broken by Declan Clerkin bowling Adam Norris for 10 (5 balls), 54-1.
Thomas Foster was the hosts number three and with Martyn James Brierley took the score past the hundred, Jack Wilkinson broke the partnership of 53 with Harry McAleer stumping Brierley for 58 (92 balls), 107-2. He then had new batsman Matthew Ashcroft caught behind by Harry McAleer for 0 (2 balls), 109-3
Nathan McDonnell replaced Ashcroft but was soon out caught by Tiaan Van Vuuren off Rizwan Patel for 9 (17 balls), 126-4, Thomas Wilkinson came to the wicket and supported Thomas Foster until he was run out by Tiaan Van Vuuren for 11 (19 balls), 159-5.
Reece Thomas was next in but with only seven runs added he was bowled by Tiaan Van vuuren for 5 (8 balls), 166-6. Van Vuuren accounted for the new batsman David Hewson lbw for 4 (9 balss), 172-7. That was the last success for the visitors as the hosts closed on 217-7 in their 50 overs. Thomas Foster was 100no (97 balls) (13x4, 2x6) and Michael Atkinson 8no (10 balls).
For Fleetwood Tiaan Van Vuuren took 2-61 from 15 overs, Jack Wilkinson 2-63 off 12, Rizwan Patel 1-40 form 13 and Declan Clerkin 1-43 off 10
Andy Drake and Harry McAleer opened for the visitors, Harry McAleer had made 11 (27 balls) when he was caught by Martyn James Breirley off Nathan McDonnell, 21 -1.
Tiaan Van Vuuren was number three and with Drake were making steady progress when both were out on the same score, Tiaan Van Vuuren went first caught by Nathan McDonnell off Thomas Foster for 34 (36 balls), 68-2, Andy Drake followed caught by Matthew Ashcroft off Thomas Wilkinson for 20 (58 balls), 68-3
The two new batsmen were Charlie Clark and Declan Clerkin and they kept the scoreboard ticking over, history repeated itself with both getting out on the same score, Charlie Clark was stumped by Adam Norris off Thomas Wilkinson for 28 (34 balls), 118-4, next Declan Clerkin fell lbw to Thomas Foster for 22 (25 balls), 118-5
Once again we had two new batsmen Adam Sharrocks and Nathan Bend, their partnership was 22 broken with Nathan Bend being caught by Matthew Ashcroft off Thomas Foster for 11 (14 balls), 140-6. William Haddow joined Sharrocks and had made 15 (21 balls) when he was stumped by Adam Norris off Nathan McDonnell for 15 (21 balls), 176-7
Fleetwood were going for the win with Joseph Warwick Sharrocks's new partner, Warwick was caught by Michael Atkinson off Cameron Smith for 3 (10 balls), 191-8. Rizwan was next in and with Sharrocks took the visitors within three runs of victory when he was stumped by Adan Norris off Thmas Foster for 11 (9 balls), 215-9
It was the last over, the hosts need one wicket and the visitors need 3 runs, Adam Sharrocks took a run of ball one, Jack Wilkinson took a run off ball 3 and the match was won by the visitors with four byes Fleetwood closed on 221-9 in 50 overs with Adam Sharrocks 53no (65 balls) and Jack Wilkinson 1no (3 balls)

Fulwood & Broughton v Leyland
Fulwood & Broughton won the toss at the Highfield ground and decided to bat first, Jon Fenton and Richard Turner opened but were soon parted as Richard Turner was caught by Jacob Wright off Kurtis Watson for 4 (10 balls), 5-1,
Ben Parkinson was the host's number three and with Jon Fenton had to work hard for their runs, Andrew Jacques broke the partnership having Parkinson caught by Kurtis Watson for 13 (42 balls), 29-2, Simon Kerrigan was the new batsman but lost his partner Jon Fenton caught behind by Adam Sexton off Andrew Jacques for 16 (65 balls), 50-3
The incoming batsman was Hareen Budilla and with Kerrigan began to rebuild the innings, Iain Critchley broke the partnership trapping Simon Kerrigan lbw for 22 (33 balls), 92-4, Hareen Buddilla followed soon after caught by Zac Willox off Kurtis Watson for 32 (44 balls), 97-5
Iain Critchley claimed his second wicket that of new batsman Muhammad Zaid caught by Andrew Jacques for 2 (15 balls), 99-6. Next in was James McWilliam who became Critchley's next victim caught and bowled for 0 (11 balls), 102-7
The remaining three wickets fell for only seven runs, Kurtis Watson took two wickets in two balls, Lewis Wellings was the first caught behind by Adam Sexton for 7 (14 balls) 108-8, next ball fell to the same fate caught behind by Adam Sexton for 0 (1 ball), 108-9
Iain Critchley closed the innings on 109 all out in 41.2 overs by bowling Chris Brookes for 1 (6 balls), Dom Jackson was 1no (12 balls).
Kurtis Watson took 4-16 from 13 overs, Iain Citchley 4-33 off 10, Andrew Jacques 2-23 from 8 and Kerwin Mungroo 0-31 off 10
Jacob Wright and James Rounding opened for the visitors and their partnership was broken with Jacob Wright being run out by Ben Parkinson for 7 (20 balls), 27-1, Zak Willox came in at three but with the total on 45 Simon Kerrigan bowled James Rounding for 31 (40 balls), 45-2
The new batsman was Kurtis Watson who was quickly out caught by Ben Parkinson off Hareen Budilla got 0 (7 balls), 46-3, James Critchley joined Zak Willox and they were scoring well until Jon Fenton bowled Zak Willox for 28 (47 balls), 94-4
Jon Fenton gave the hosts hope by bowling new batsman Karl Cross for 0 (9 balls), 100-5. Simon Kerrigan then had Andrew Makinson caught behind by James McWilliam of 0 (1 ball), 101-6. That was the hosts last success as James Critchley 31no (44 balls) and Adam Sexton 9no (8 balls) saw the visitors to victory by 4 wickets in the 28th over
For Fulwood & Broughton Jon Fenton took 3-32 from 6 0vers, Simon Kerrigan 2-34 off 12.2 and Harren Budilla 1-40 from 11
Garstang v Kendal
Garstang won the toss at the Riverside Sports ground and elected to bat first, Luke Smith and Michael Walling opened, they gave the hosts a good start, Freddie Fallows broke the partnership by having Michael Walling caught by Chris Miller for 31 (41 balls). 61-1
Mark Walling came in at number three but soon became Freddie Fallows next victim lbw for 12 (16 balls), 99-2, next in was Ryan Pearson who fell caught behind by Finlay Richardson off Toby Tyson for 0 (10 balls), 112-3
Hugo Croft was next in but lost his partner Luke Smith caught by Lewis Richardson off Toby Tyson for 72 (92 balls), 119-4, Ashton Charles joined Hugo Croft and were going well until Chris Miller trapped Ashton Charles lbw for 31 (40 balls), 172-5, Miller next ball caught and bowled new batsman Tom Wells for 0 (1 ball), 172-6
Ian Walling was Croft's next partner, their partnership was 40 broken when Ian Walling was stumped by Finlay Richardson off Chris Miller for 18 (16 balls), 212-7, Joel Anthony Derham was in next but was run out by Darren Nightingale for 2 (4 balls) 216-8
Hugo Croft's fighting innings came to an end caught and bowled by Chris Miller for 47 (77 balls), 224-9, Waris Khan 7no (3 balls) and Josh Woodhead 0no (1 ball) saw the hosts close on 229-9 in their 50 overs
For Kendal Chris Miller took 4-38 from 8 overs, Toby Tyson 2-37 off 9, Freddie Fallows 2-53 from 15, Matthew Park 0-23 off 5, Kuldeep Singh 0-35 from 7 and Jongsen Jonathan 0-36 off 6
Freddie Fallows and Darren Nightingale opened for the visitors and had reached 27 when Michael Walling struck taking two quick wickets, Darren Nightingale was caught by Tom Wells for 0 (3 balls) 21-1, number three Finlay Richardson fell lbw for 0 (4 balls), 27-2
Rongsen Jonathan joined Freddie Fallows who was attacking the Garstang bowling, With Jonathan on 12 (19 balls) he was out lbw to Ian Walling, 75-3, Bradley Earl was next in but lost his swahbuckling partner Freddie Fallows caught by Ryan Pearson off Joel Anthony Derham for 73 (34 balls), (7x4, 6x6), 98-4
Lewis Richardson was the new batsman and with Earl were giving the visitors a chance of victory but with the score on 162 both players were out, Lewis Richardson went first caught by Ian Walling off Joel Anthony Derham for 20 (40 balls), 162-5, Bradley Earl followed lbw to Waris Khan for 52 (46 balls), 161-6
Paul Dodds and Chris Miller were the two new batsmen, with only seven runs added Waris Khan bowled Paul Dodds for 5 (6 balls), 169-7. Toby Tyson joined Miller but became Waris Khan's third victim lbw for 7 (19 balls), 169-8
Ian Walling took centre stage claiming the last two Kendal wickets, Matthew Park trapped lbw for 5 (19 balls), 203-9, then having Kuldeep Singh caught by Ryan Pearson for 3 (9 balls) as Kendal were bowled out for 207 in 40.4 overs
The wickets were shared around the Garstang bowlers, Ian Walling 3-37 from 7.4 overs, Waris Khan 3-50 off 10, Joel Anthony Derham 2-29 from 10, Michael Walling 2-69 off 11 and Josh Woodhead 0-20 from 2
Netherfield v Longridge
Longridge won the toss and chose to bat first, James Whitehead and Joshua Mullin opened with a partnership of 39 broken by Matt Jackson having James Whitehead caught by Oli Wileman for 16 (31 balls),39-1
The visitors number three was Matthew De Villiers and with Mullin were going nicely until De Villiers was caught behind by Will Beeden off Reece Irving for 22 (41 balls), 83-2, Zac Christie was Mullin's new partner but with only 11 runs added Joshua Mullin was caught by Steven Fisher off Reece Irving for 48 (82 balls), 94-3
Reece Irving claimed his third wicket new batsman Zach Proctor caught behind by Will Beeden for 4 (17 balls), 102-4, Luke Platt replaced Proctor and with Christie kept the scoreboard ticking over until he was caught by Sagar Udeshi off Samuel Medhurst for 23 (34 balls), 165-5
New batsman Tom Turner 25no (12 balls) and Zac Christie 85no (84 balls) saw the visitors close on 231-5 in their 50 overs
Reece Irving took 3-37 from 11 overs, Matt Jackson 1-14 off 7, Samuel Medhurst 1-55 from 7. Oli Wileman 0-24 off 4, Sagar Udeshi 0-43 from 15 and Louis Backhouse 0-56 off 6

Jonathan Millward made the breakthrough with two wickets without addition. Reece Irving was the first to go caught behind by Tom Turner for 10 (27 balls),39-2, followed two balls later by Steven Fisher caught by Joshua Mullin for 0 (2 balls), 39-3
Aryan Varsani joined Ben Barrow only to lose him with 7 runs added, falling lbw to Jonathan Millward for 28 (59 balls), 46-4, Aryan Varsani became Jonathan Millward's next victim stumpted by Tom Turner for 8 (19 balls), 52-5, It soon became six down with Caleb Bradford having Sagar Udeshi caught by Jake Durnell for 4 (20 balls), 54-6
Things did not improve for the hosts losing two wickets with the score on 58, Jake Durnell caught and bowled Will Beeden for 0 (16 balls), 58-7, he then repeated the action with Louis Backhouse caught and bowled for 0 (10 balls), 58-8
Oli Wileman and Samuel Medhurst fought hard to try and save the game but with the score on 100 Samuel Medhurst fell caught by James Whitehead off Jake Durnell for 22 (42 balls), 100-9, Caleb Bradford brought the Netherfield innings to a close on 100 all out in 43.5 overs by bowling Oli Wileman for 19 (61 balls), Matt Jackson was 0no

Penrith v Blackpool
Blackpool won the toss at Tynfield Park and elected to bat first, Jake Muncaster and Ali Munir opened, James Ellis made the early breakthrough bowling Ali Munir for 4 (6 balls), 4-1. Jack White took the prize wicket of Shivam Chaudhary caught behind by Alister Craig for 2 (14 balls), 11-2
Josh Boyne joined Jake Muncaster and they took the total past 50 when Harsha Vithana had Josh Boyne lbw for 19 (20 balls), 53-3. Next in was Dylan Henshall, Jake Muncaster was batting carefully until Samuel Hall trapped him lbw for 31 (69 balls), 88-4
Ben Howarth joined Henshall but with only eleven runs added Dylan Henshall was caught by James Bowman off Samuel Hall for 31 (28 balls), 99-5. Samuel Hall claimed his third wicket Ben Howarth caught by James Ellis for 7 (23 balls), 110-6
Matthew Grindley and Paul Danson were the new batsmen, Harsha Vithana broke the partnership having Paul Danson lbw for 8 (18 balls), 128-8, William Vause came in next but was soon out caught behind by Alister Craig off Jack White for 1 (9 balls), 131-8
Steven Mercer was next in but lost his partner Matthew Grindley caught by Owen Jones off Harsha Vithana for 16 (50 balls), 133-9. The last pair of Steven Mercer and Jamie Thomson slowly built up the score until Greg Cameron closed the Blackpool innings on 151 all out in 47.2 overs by bowling Steven Mercer for 12 (26 balls), Jamie Thomson was 6no (22 balls).
For Penrith Samuel Hall took 3-26 off 8 overs, Harsha Vithana 3-36 from 15, Jack White 2-35 off 13, James Ellis 1-24 from 5 and Greg Cameron 1-26 off 6.2
The Penrith openers Ollie Greenwood and Eddie Robson had to fight for their runs, the partnership was broken by Matthew Grindley having Ollie Greenwood caught behind by Ben Howarth for 0 (14 balls) 3-1
Harsha Vithana came in at three but fell to the Howarth/Grindley combination, caught behind Howarth bowled Grindley for 19 (29 balls), 26-2, The new batsman was James Bowman who was soon out caught by Steven Mercer off Shivam Chaudhary for 3 (14 balls), 33-3
Disaster for the hosts as they lost two wickets with the score on 40, first to go was Greg Cameron bowled by Matthew Grindley for 6 (8 balls), 40-4, Eddie Robson who had been battling away was next stumped by Ben Howarth off Jamie Thomson for 8 (40 balls), 40-5
The Penrith innings collapsed with the last five wickets falling for only eleven runs, Jack White was bowled by Shivam Chaudhary for 6 (8 balls), 46-6, with only three runs added three wickets fell, James Ellis caught by Josh Boyne off Shivam Chaudhary for 0 (3 balls), 50-7,Next Owen Jones to the same combination caught Boyne bowled Chaudhary for 0 (2 balls), 50-8
The third wicket to fall on 50 was Alister Craig caught by William Vause off Matthew Grindley for 4 (16 balls), 50-9. Matthew Grindley claimed his fifth wicket Samuel Hall bowled for 1 (8 balls) closing the Penrith innings on 51 all out in 24.5 overs.
